I feel like if tracks would work with each other for scheduling, and other things. That'd what will keep the sport alive. Even if it's right down to the local shows.
Like, speaking about locally, here in Pennsylvania. Port Royal (PRS) & Lincoln may take days off if the other track has a much bigger race. Like, in this example, Lincoln wouldn't be racing 410s the weekend of the Tuscarora 50. That way, the Tusky 50 may get more cars.

    • @iTakerrr
      @iTakerrr 18 днів тому

Honestly a big part of the reason why Lincoln and Port do not generally care about one or the other unless its like speedweek is because regulars from either track don't show up typically for even the big shows at each others tracks. Port drivers rarely go to Lincoln even for more money and vice versa. Doesn't make sense to take off when the drivers aren't going anyway.

While I don't like it, for the sport as a whole, it would make sense to do so and it would reach demographics that would never look at dirt racing and introduce them to it, get them to research it, them into it, get them addicted to it. One thing that makes this different for gambling is the income of the drivers is vastly different than the income for big four pro athletes. Often with racing the outcome is influenced by back markers when being lapped. The potential to see corruption or insider gambling is kind of massive.

I mean I hope betting brings in A LOT of money because I really don't like the pervasive nature of betting in sports, and what it can do to people. Seeing all the harassment that athletes, whether pro or college, sometimes get after a disappointing night or whatever, makes me a tad fearful for a sport with such great access. Its already bad enough when it happens to a pro athlete or college athlete with million to billion dollar institutions behind them (and usually almost superhuman strength and intimidation factor), I can't imagine what might happen when its some 16 year old kid who usually races micros or a 32 year old mechanic who races weekly at LPS who has a racing incident that changes the outcome, and someone struggling with gambling addiction wants to take their anger out on that driver.

Yeah nah I'm with the skeptics when it comes to the betting interest. Never mind the extreme shit, like race-fixing and underhanded fuckery - you risk just drawing in people who are in it for the money more than the sport. And no, dragging in sheer masses of fans no matter whether they are truly invested in the sport or not ISN'T a good call. Check out how F1's cultivation of celebrity culture's been at the core of its fanbase's rampant toxicity, for one example.
This isn't the apocalypse. Just as there was dirt racing before gambling came in, there will be dirt racing afterwards, and I don't think there's really all that much fixing going on in top-level sports anyway (unless the Eyes Wide Shut types REALLY have the wool over our eyes lol). No, my problem is that gambling might make even the act of _spectating_ a sport more about the money than the sport (at least for SOME people), a subtle but significant shift that every sport could do without. All this, and then there's the hulking obsidian elephant in the room that is gambling addiction, and how much gambling entities are encouraged to profit off of it (given that we live in a society where businesses don't exactly get brownie points for looking after the public).
Not the end of the world, but the benefits don't outweigh the drawbacks in a way meaningful enough or by enough of a margin to sell me on the idea. I would much rather quote Dominic Toretto: "Keep it about the cars."

Gambling might be able to help grow the sport but that’s only if sports books can get good enough at predicting races so they can make a profit. That seems like a tall order. You should be one of the first people they hire as you have put in the work to organize the data. Your data is unmatched but it is still far from being able to predict results well enough that a sports book can win as often as they do in NASCAR or conventional sports. @@kylen82 First you would have to explain to me why the surge in this one area and why now if not for betting ? I would not say that auto racing is a "niche" sport but I may concurr that USAC is a niche aspect of auto racing .I do agree that if I was a degenerate gambler I would use Justin's analytics board since it is one of the best around and the baby needs a new pair of shoes (degenerate joke) I don't know where you get that the betting limits will be low or that they have decided to include anytype of guard rails . As far as people not running out to bet I guess you have never hung around a OTB for a day or know any bookies ..

@@Trackratz-zl9di I just said I believe this surge on Justin’s analytics site reflects fans of dirt racing who want to get more statistical analysis before making their bets. I am just saying that people who are already dirt racing fans may have decided to frequent the data sources more now that they have incentive to do so. As for limits… that’s just how all sports books work, they don’t expose themselves to much unknown risk. Extreme example being that you cannot currently place the same size max bet on a ncaa football championship game or Super Bowl compared to a random NHL game. I’ve seen many comments from people who obviously don’t understand this detail. Go ahead and try to place a 4 figure bet on a dirt race and you’ll see

Drivers, owners, and crew members are dedicating their lives and money to racing, for peanuts in return. Would 2 drivers agree to swap places on the last lap of a $3,000 to win race if they could double their money? I say yes.

I've been a Sprint car fan since 1977. Growing up in Central PA. Not trying to be biased but it is the best Sprint car racing around... Problem with usac They don't pay their driver's nearly what they pay the Sprint cars. Gate prices are outrageous when they come to town and nobody shows up. Maybe we're just biased for Sprint cars... Yes the racing is fun to watch but also slower. Takes forever to get a show completed Takes forever Maybe that's why people stay away.
For instance look at the Grove last week.

Everybody knows that Justin “ The Impact Wrench”, has put some peeps in Lake Norman sleepin wit da fishes 😂😂
Joking aside, I’m in my mid fifties and gambling has been in all the other sports since waaaaaay before I was born that’s why no one makes a big deal about it. Reach out to Michael Franzese. Interview him about it.
That being said, there are so many variables with dirt track racing, it would be very difficult to “fix”.

Betting could corrupt this sport. Next thing you know, drivers will get paid to throw a race, just like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL get paid to throw games.

lol who pays them? How do “they” decide which drivers to pay off? Most people have more pride and integrity than you think. Auto racing doesn’t have referees who could be paid off either and racers want to win races they aren’t taking a payoff to get 2nd

For me two thumbs down for betting on racing. Gives teams more chance to cheat or fix races.
