🇲🇾 Goat Biriyani BAMBOO Steamer (Cold Weather + TASTY Food!!) Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

- The Cameron Highlands are absolutely blowing me away, and we are SO glad to take the chance to visit this amazing part of Malaysia!! A big thanks to some good friends for giving us this chance in the first place, and thank YOU today for hanging out with us - this is the first of several adventures up here - I hope you're as excited as we are!
These highlands are located in Central Malaysia, we are staying in the state of Pahang. This video today is between the towns of Tanah Rata, and Brinchang, two of the larger towns in this entire area. Although Pahang includes flat lands as well (its quite a large state), the part where we are staying is at a cool, crisp elevation of over 1,500m a.s.l.
If you do visit Malaysia, I strongly recommend choosing Kuala Lumpur as your first destination, but afterwards I just might choose the Cameron Highlands as number two. Penang was gorgeous, and we had a lot of fun there, but I sort of knew what to expect. Up here in Tanah Rata I can say that between the hiking, the tea fields, the jungle (and the glorious amount of Indian food :) ) it is just a non-stop progression of surprises!
Thanks again for hanging out with us, and I hope you love the short series of videos coming up next, all from Malaysia's AMAZING Cameron Highlands.
Much love!! See you soon.
Joel and Li

These Malaysia 🇲🇾 edition videos are awesome. I love it when the power couple is in front of the camera!
More to come, but wow, man what a comment to read today. THANK you for some hugely encouraging words :) :) Hope this finds you having an AWESOME Thursday right now!!!
Durian in malaysia after harvesting needs to be sold within 3 days. This is because we let it drop by itself when ripen. In contrast, thai durians are taken from trees earlier. Thais do not like eating fully ripe durian. So it is dry and hard a bit compared to our soft pulp.
Have a great weekend
I agree with you Joel. It depends on the person eating. They can eat however way they want. The most important thing is the person eating must enjoy the food. How you eat is up to you, no one can force you to eat a certain way. My hat off to you Li for trying to immerse yourself in the local culture. For us Malaysians, we don't mind how you eat your food.
Its common to find Malaysians knowing 3 or 4 languages minimum. For us on the Borneo side of Malaysia, we learn other dialects like Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau etc...these are some of the different ethnic groups in Sarawak.
Such a great message to read this morning!! Hplagt I really appreciate also that you watch the entire video. I know I talked a lot during this one, I really appreciate you listening and giving some great feedback. I appreciate more the island languages now, actually I have been there 12 years ago and it was a great trip, I would love to go back now that I am a little bit more mature and aware of what’s going on… Anyways, have a great day, see you again for another video soon I hope. Happy Thursday
I'm with Li..mix everything together.....the taste just blend in nicely. About using hand to eat....these days most malays wont use their hands when eating in public so I find it amazing to see others eat using their hands. As for me I tend to eat more using hand which is not very good hahahaha you know you're an expert at using hand when you dont have to tilt your head when putting the food in your mouth.
Tamil is not the national language of malaysia. Malay language is...but tamil as well as mandarin is offered in the curriculum in malaysia elementary national/public school and national-type school :)
Have a brilliant weekend

The Bloke with the same name 🥰
Good morning dear Joel- Li and special love to our dear Bru-Cru family 🤗🤗🤗
The title of the Vlog itself was sufficient to get be drooling 🤤. To begin a classic drone shot with a fabulous background music 🎶 Biryani cooked in a Bamboo is truly a wonderful dish loaded with spices and it’s so aromatic 😋👌 The colour of the Biryani looks awesome 👏🏼 Biryani cheers Joel 👍 That’s so sweet of Joel to request Li to share the scrumptious Biryani instead being behind the Camera . Oh this Biryani is made from Basmati rice 🍚 In India we use many varieties of Rice to cook a Biryani 😀 Interesting to see a small dollop of Sambal as a condiment to the Biryani 👌 I also like to taste individual flavours whereas my wife prefers to add everything together ( to get an explosion of flavours ) . It’s indeed a wonderful experience to dine with hands 🙌🏼 Great explanation and experience of eating with hands after meeting Joel 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Truly genuine and candid comments from the maestro - Li 👍👍 When the food is good it translates into a good memories and good memories are always wonderful 👍 The Dal with the Biryani is certainly unique yet interesting . I am sure Joel you would have experienced eating an authentic Biryani has two special condiments . One type meat gravy and second Onion Raita 😀 The cabbage and Mayo salad in this case works like a thick Raita 👌True that SEA countries are always a congruence of languages , culture, food etc . The Taxi driver cited by Li is a classic example on how the folks embrace the culture of the country in a holistic way 🙏🙏🙏 So glad that you folks are thoroughly enjoyed / enjoying your Malaysian experience 👌👌 Nothing to beat a good lunch with a hot cup of Teh Tarik 😀 Joel thanks for the recommendation of the places to visit in Malaysia 🇲🇾 True Joel style to end the Vlog with a classic drone shot and associated mellifluous background music 🎶. Fabulous Vlog to begin my day . Thank you dear Joel and Li to enable providing a wonderful virtual experience 🙏🙏 Take care , Stay safe and healthy and God bless 🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Much love and respect to everyone on the grid 👏🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️

Joel is such a nice guy. The science behind eating with hands. There is an enzyme at the tip of our fingers, due to that, when you eat using hands, the enzyme will actually help on the first phase of digestion. Tips on eating with hands is try to push your food using your thumb. :D

I love when you two eat together! Want to try this! I guess there's nothing like this in Chiang Mai? Of course there's Khao Lam (sticky rice cooked in new bamboo, usually over a fire) but that's a different story. Just love the idea of the Biriyani being cooked in a bamboo tube!
Officially bahasa and english are used extensively. Tamil and chinese schools are part of the national school system(gov funded). These are called vernacular school. The old british mission schools are now malay schools. However, there are also international schools here. I am not sure if northern malaysia there are thai schools.
Hi Keang! Hey wow, thanks for the awesome info! Ok so I see that it really isnt so straightforward (I was wondering why I was finding so much confusing information when searching for this online :) )
@@JoelsTastyRide there are also chinese private schools not gov funded.
I was told traveling that using utensils with food changes the flavor of the food versus using your hand. Hands add your natural salts in your fingers. I don’t know if it is true or not but using your hand to eat is fun. If you are left handed do you still use your right hand to eat anyway?

Hello luv 😍
Your exploration gives me idea where to eat in Cameron Highland. You eat with hand and you mastered it., some western eat with hand but they look very suffer look like Jamie Oliver did. What make sense when you eat with hand is you can control how you wash your hand until you feel satisfied and your hand not go into other people mouth compare to spoon.
try this chinese restaurant in brinchang cameron highlands if you're still there.....Delicious & Happiness Cameron highlands restaurant
Joel I ate lamb biriyani this past weekend in Washington DC, was good but pricey, $25 a plate. We also made it at home and turned out great.
Nice to see you, hope you are wonderful
Oh yes, we Malaysians speak many languages and dialects. I can converse in English, Malay, Mandarin & 3 other Chinese dialects. A bit of Thai, Tamil, Indonesia & Tagalog. As for eating with hands. You actually make it into a Doug, lift up with your four fingers and use you tumb to push into your mouth. Your mouth shouldn’t lift up and face upwards.
Blessings 💕
I also know to speak chinese but only bad words...
Joel my sweet ❤️can we start doing Thai word of the day? I would love that!

Hiya dolls, have a great weekend
Hi Joel thanks for the sharing 😊, but in English (I am not a native speaker) the correct term for the meat would be Mutton and Goat is the animal. Perhaps correcting the title...haha. Then again Chicken is just Chicken 🤭...why is that in English 🤣
Cool, thanks haha ebcho, you are right! English is so fun....funny? fun.
Just my opinion: it is better if li and joel eat together. When she focus on you, she gets hungry too. Just use a stand for the gopro or camera. In cameron highlands it is cold especially morning and evening, so holding a camera and watching another person eating delicious briyani is a torture by itself.
Hey Joel, Biryani looks yummy. Not much goat though. I've never seen sambal like that. Usually it's red and full of chilies. Here in Indonesia we have a sambal called sambal mata, which means eye sambal because they use little shallots which they call red onions. In Sulawesi they cook in green bamboo. They stuff a section with lots of meat, greens, chilies, and onions then cook it on the coals directly. When done they break it open and it's super good. Lentils are grown in the air and peanuts grow underground. Yes they have a similar consistency but it's because lentils cook down quickly to a nice creaminess. Enjoy Malaysia. Peace, Dennis
Dennis!!! Always interested to take another trip to that beautiful island and learn all about this local food with you. I can tell that you are very interested in learning, you always have so much to share about awesome recipes from Sulawesi. Cheers, have a great day today man, happy Thursday
Thanks Joel. I am so happy that you take the time to reply. Yes I always love learning and how to learn new ways of cooking and being a part of new cultures and ways of preparing food. I can't say I like their religions but I look deeper into the people I interact with and look to see their hearts and goodness regardless. There is hope that we all can just learn to get along. Peace and sweet dreams, it's my bedtime. Love you always, Dennis

Hello luv, have a great weekend
Actually the best way to eat is with your hand n scientifically your fingertip had a enzyme n help your stomach to digest the food properly thats why we lick fingertip after finish the food. Glad to see lee love to eat with hand. Btw the way lee eat with hand is better than u joel 😂. Good job n keep it up
I can't eat with my hands. Since I was little, I've always hated getting my hands dirty, sticky, etc. :D Sorry. Lol
I have never tried eating with me fingers...I am with you, wouldn't not enjoy things on sticking, running or trying to jump away(adding a bit of humour)
Have you tried using gloves? It's kind of the same but theres that barrier for the "cleanliness" . I use plastic gloves when i eat crab and shrimp steamers.
my daughter is the same way:) since she was small, stuck her hands in 1st bday cake, shook off hands and started cry until I cleaned off her hands
😂Doesn’t mind eating with hands but it takes a bit of getting use to and lots of napkins, and a good wash after. 😊But will usually go for the 🍴🥄.
@@kevinandtanya2244 smiling 🥰
Hmm...using spoon or hand to eat rice....I think I am gonna design a spoon in the shape of a cupped hand with 4 fingers & a mechanical thumb that pushes the rice into your mouth...cool right?
Smiling 🥰
I have never used my hand to eat unless its an appetizer or fruit. My wife does not know how to use chopsticks. I use them all the time. Oh... I forgot.. you cannot eat soup or chili without a spoon unless you tip the bowl up to your mouth. I like the chinese style spoons because they hold more of said soup. You also cannot just eat a steak with your hands.
Li's hand-eating technique is better than Joel's though 😅
Smiling 🥰
🤣 using hand to eat dont realy work for me…. Because i like to flood my rice with curry or soup. Even my nasi lemak is flooded.😶
