- The first bird of the 2024 Block Island bird banding season was well-known to Kim Gaffett: a Yellow Warbler returning for the sixth time! First banded by Kim in May 2019, it returns every year from as far away as Peru to nest somewhere around Clay Head at the north end of the island. Amazing!
You said it all…what an amazing little guy. So fragile and yet so robust❤️
Hopefully we'll see him again next year!
One of my favorite birds! Thanks.
Awesome! A charismatic one, for sure.
How incredible (and cute)! We see so many birds without any idea of where they've traveled or what they've experienced, this is an incredible moment.
Yes! A little bird that weighs as much as two nickels migrating thousands of miles to this exact spot! And then again and again!
cool . just wondering how you caught it ? Do you trap them each year to monitor them ?
Yes, Kim sets up mist nets during spring and fall migration in the same locations every year. The data set goes back to the late 1960s.
@@tncrhodeisland cool . i believe shared data like this is important for so many reasons . so long as the birds aren't to stressed to the point of freaking out . thanks keep up the good work . What an amazing beautiful life that little being is ! gosh
@@BushKayakersCampingAustralia Thanks! The process is pretty quick and aimed at minimizing stress on the bird. Kim releases them as quickly as possible.
