  • Sturgis Crunch Time...A buddy brings his girlfriend's Harley Sportster by that needs a LOT of help and we've got 48 hours to get them running, safe, and on the road to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We rebuild the forks and replace the lower legs, change the wheels & wheel bearings, modify and rewire handle bars, there's suspension upgrades and other last minute things we find.
How'd we do? Give us a Like and leave a Comment on the transition.

Roughly how much do ironhead Sportsters cost in America? I'm just wondering whether there's a business opportunity there for someone. Complete heaps which barely work (or which don't work at all, with many parts missing) go for the equivalent of $4K in the UK. $4K all day long. Any sort of customisation doesn't seem to add or take away value. I think it might be fun to mess about with one and restore.

I'm not sure. I (personally) don't think they are very popular here in the states. It's funny you ask about them. I have one in a box I don't know what to do with! Suggestions??

@@garleysgarage It would be nice to get that off your hands and put $ in them instead, but with the shipping costs it's probably prohibitive for me (but I'm not an expert so quote me if you feel like it). There are companies over here (e.g. Summer Bud) which get one big shipment a year from the States. All sorts of bikes - none of them working - sold as projects. Just a random assortment from whatever was in someone's estate sale, usually. Just from looking at the price differential, where ironheads are considered junk in America but are prized platforms for custom bikes here in the UK, it's possible to make business from that, I think, even though prices have tanked from their 2021 peak.

If they started making Harleys in Japan I would buy one. Those people are cracking engineers and conscientious workers.

@@rupertbollywood1190 Thats interesting. It is crazy they haven't. Guess thats why Japan buys from the states at crazy high prices and imports them. Cars too!!
