The equipment stored on runways were from auctions after the first motorway construction in uk. There also was quite a selection of old agricultural machinery I visited there a few times in the eighties to collect parts for repairs on earthmoving equipment still being used both on farms and construction sites. At the time l went with a Mr Nelson Green of Morton a village on the Borne side of Folkingham. Mr Green was knew where you could find what you needed and would take me there in his Mercedes’ car work clothes and all a very knowledgeable man. Also Folkingham was used in the Fifties to develop and test the BRM race cars who were based in Borne Lincolnshire and echoed to the sound of their 1500cc supercharged V16 engine which produced around 700 hp full chat unfortunately reliability was a problem they had to face. Once heard this engine is never forgotten.
