That is exactly like your saying that you would cut off your nose which you do not do, presumably because it is not in your interest so to do, and by the same token it is not in the interest of any politician of any colour or party to do anything other than suck up to the lower classes, who by reason of an ordinary Bell curve distribution of the population taken at random make up the very people that elect any politician, and anyone that cannot see that can only be described as an imbecile child.
I doubt anyone particularly likes the lower classes (because they are vile), but they do all the work in the country and they pay the taxes and they form the electorate of all politicians, in whose interests it is to suck up like crazy to the lower classes or those that are relatively less well off because they form a large majority of the voters.
Quick answer: She can’t, and she has absolutely no intention of trying. She’s been very open about the disdain with which she holds the working class and average folk.

It has to be said that anyone calling themselves "folk" merits nothing but contempt. It is foolish to be contemptuous of the lower classes because they do all the work and some of them are quite pleasant and even occasionally amusing if thick as two short planks. For goodness sake one has to get one's servants from somewhere.

@@bostonblackie9503 the vast majority of benefits are paid to those already in work or pensioners. Generational unemployment is virtually non existent any more. Taxpayers are subsidising a cheap workforce. If we paid proper wages, we wouldn't have to subsidise the workforce.

It's not a cost of living crisis, it's a cost of Profits crisis. Companies are making record profits while also increasing prices. This inflation is not '70s wage price inflation this is supply side inflation aggravated by Corporate Profit chasing.
The answer, nationalise utility companies now, France has done it and their citizens bills have gone up by only 4%.
If Liz Truss cuts taxes to help people she is actually using Taxpayer money to subsidise Corporate Profits, instead of fixing the NHS, or helping local authorities to cope with this growing emergency.

Along with nuclear generation, the North Sea is a perfect place for offshore wind power and more importantly, tidal power generation.

Not only only is it unlikely that Liz can fix it, its odds on she just makes it worse. The choice and quality of political leadership in Britain has never been so poor; which is probably true for the collective West as a whole. All huddled together sliding down a cold and slippery U.S.lope.
This is all that I can think of when she says "tax cuts". It won't put that much into the pockets of middle class people and lower class people already benefit form things like no VAT on essentials and/or already benefit from tax deductions anyway. But it will have the effect of increasing inflation by increasing liquidity in the markets.

Tax cuts is good when you are in a recession and u need companies to invest more and employ people, etc. At a time when inflation is high and the job market is already strong. Tax cuts aren't going to do anything. The government should instead subsidize food prices to at least help reduce down inflation.

I Live in the UK and all of what's been said is true. People are going through tough times and there is a difficult winter ahead. The biggest problem here is the gas and electric bill's have gone up 400% . Will be sharing this video with friends and families to help them realize and prepare. There's a reason US healthcare costs about twice that of UK healthcare, as a percentage of GDP or about $4,000 per head per year more (Whilst providing less coverage, lower life expectancy, more infant mortalities and more medical bankruptcies). There's a reason energy and rail price increases routinely exceed inflation by quite some margin. The consumer-provider power balance is heavily skewed in favour of the provider, because you can't walk away from the table and not buy energy or a train to work or cancer treatment. Fat Cats and CEOs provide an extra layer of profit extraction and waste, nothing more.
The only supporters they have left are suburban golf club bores, elderly home counties Daily Express / Telegraph / Mail readers and the feeble minded which is the same thing. Even given the laughable FPTP system the Tories now have to be taken out of UK politics - forever. Starmer has been uninspiring but anything is better than the Tories right now. Macron has used EU legislation laws that enable him to place emergency price caps on companies like EDF. It turns out that the UK still have these EU laws at their disposal too, and Truss can place emergency cap laws energy companies in the UK. Is she is at all serious in making life affordable for people in this country and containing inflation she would be using these legislation laws immediately. In fact it is just a conjob no one is really talking about the powers and abilities the Tories legally have to put emergency caps on energy prices. Germany has announce a 65 Billion package of help for people yesterday. The Eu is not stopping the british - it is the neoliberal mantra.
Imagine the right wing meltdown that’d follow if EU laws still on the books were used to actually help people in the most sensible, fiscal, and materially responsible way. The mental gymnastics would be Olympics level.
Who pays for this price cap freeze? We need to pay as much of this back from Windfall Tax on the Oil & Gas companies so we don't have to pay it ourselves. And the UK has truly massive debts already thanks to the pandemic.
I'd be happy with even half of the prize cap freeze being covered by windfall tax.
It doesn't sit right that the answer to every problem is more burden for the tax payer (especially low earners).
The private banks had a crisis so the tax payer bailed them out. The tax payer has a crisis, so we bail out the private energy companies... The private sector and the public seem to have a very one sided relationship.
The pain of this crisis needs to be shared rather than let it just crush working people.

It's brexit plus pandemic plus the fact billions were lost due to fraud due to mishandling by the tories of the furlough programme and that they used their own donors and mates to do a large amount of ppe contracts and the ppe wasn't fit for purpose and then had to be stored at a cost of millions they also used a trace and trace that didn't work again using a tory and cost millions. Self evidently those that depend on voters to be elected are deeply and intimately concerned with the well-being of those that elect them or provide their bread-and-butter and anyone that doesn't understand that is an imbecile child., So it is in the interests of any politician to suck up like crazy to the lower classes as far as possible because make up the majority of the voters so it is in their interests to keep the voters happy, and if you can't grasp that you really are an imbecile child.

Wage stagnation and income inequality are the primary issue here. If wages had kept up with inflation people would be able to afford food and other essentials despite the recent run-up. Instead a toxic mix of job offshoring, union busting, and runaway executive pay increases have created the current crisis. We're going to need a huge economic crash followed by massive de-globalization to bring back a reasonable cost of living. Things are going to get worse before they get better.
