My first thought when you set it up was, "Wow, that looks really cheap." Also, I've discovered there are actually *multiple* Tetris board games. I didn't even know until today there was even one.
a geometric shape composed of 4 squares connected orthogonally is a "tetromino" (polyomino where n=4 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyomino, with the etymology deriving for the game "domino") but in context of official Tetris games, it's "tetrimino" (and the Tetris Company trademarked it too, I believe)
@@ahiijny This is true. In the official mobile Tetris app, the preloader credits say “Tetris logos, Tetris theme song, and Tetriminos are trademarks of Tetris Holding.” Tetra (meaning four) + Domino = Tetromino Tetris + Tetromino = Tetrimino
Ok, what if the squares of each tetromino were magnetically held together, and at the bottom of the board, there was a divider you could slide in to cut off the bottom row? You'd just have to assemble the tetrominos yourself of course.
@@kevinphan1254 Maybe if there were gaps on the edge of the board, and then you had a 'line remover' that you could shunt through the holes, regardless of where the line was, and it would push the pieces out. But then again it's now spending so much time needing to build those blocks.
@@kevinphan1254 Oh yeah I forgot lines could be cleared anywhere, that's kind of the whole point of Tetris isn't it... @BioYuGi's idea could maybe work... Or, and this would be so over-complicated and finicky of course, every single row of the board was on its own y-axis slider (meaning, it comes forward a bit), so at any line, you could slide that section out, have the cleared pieces fall away, slide the section back in, which leaves space for everything above to fall down. It's a fun problem to try and solve even if there's no point. the digital game is perfect.
@@AnimeWolf5193 UA-cam could solve a decent chunk of this with link previews. But then again, when did UA-cam last implement helpful features on purpose
I just picked it up from Walmart today, what luck you have a video on it. Good news: the issues you brought up have all but been improved! The symbols have white outlines now and are easier to read. No more air bubbles or plastic sheets, the symbols are printed on the plastic. And I just tested all the slots on each player board, nothing got stuck. So yeah, it's pretty fun.
How are there *multiple* Tetris board games? I thought this was the one that I got at a thrift store, but mine is totally different; it doesn't have the whole card mechanic. Wild.
Yikes. Here are three polyomino board games that are vastly better: - NMBR 9: Unique polyomino shapes based on numbers, plus you get to stack them on top of each other for more points. Plays fast and super fun. - Patchwork: Excellent 2 player game, you're each pulling from a circle of shapes to try to finish your quilt. Also: cute button tokens. - New York Zoo: You're building a zoo! With shapes! Also: colorful wooden penguins, arctic foxes, kangaroos, and flamingos.
I would want to buy this just so I can have that little tetris thing. I'd have so much fun putting the pieces in and listening to the little klinks ;v;
I get that they were probably going for an interesting gimmick by having you actually drop the pieces, but I feel like all the problems with this game would be solved if you were just placing pieces on a board or mat.
I think the last thing he said definitely sums it up well, Sure it's cool that Tetris is a board game now, but there's not much reason to play this over regular Tetris. Except if you have no way at all to play regular Tetris of course, though that's unlikely with it being available on almost every device ever.
@@diydylana3151 I get your point, but I see these new mechanics as more of a workaround for the limitations that they had to make in order for it to still work. I'm not saying you shouldn't play the board game, I just think that most people would prefer how the original game plays, with you being able to keep clearing lines to keep playing rather than it being pretty short.
I bought a Tetris board game years ago called "Tetris Link". The game goes up to 2-4 player's, each player gets a single color set of Tetrimino's (tetris peices) and you take turns rolling this one custom die and play whatever peice it tells you to play (though there is one wild side on the die, allowing you to choose your peice). To win player's "link" up their same colored tetris peices to score points and try not to get blocked by other player's tetris peices, then afterwards each player subtracts holes their tetris peices made from their score, whoever has the highest score wins.
I too bought the Tetris game and noticed that theTetris towers all had bubbles. I made a choice to pull off part of the plastic so that I could flatten the bubbles, but the tower was totally destroyed. I wrote Buffalo Games and they did replace ALL of the towers and, yes, the manufacturers actually took more than 10 seconds to put each plastic sheet on each tower (NO BUBBLES). My suggestion to them was: Why are you putting plastic sheets on a plastic tower? All you needed to do was put a label for every bonus tetrimino square. Even better, the Tetris game never really needed to be a tower. Even Gamers have immaginations . Why didn't you just make everything flat?
Honestly, all the extra BS could be dropped. Just take turns pulling cards and placing pieces. If you get more pieces in your color than your opponents, you win.
I think your voice was heard. I just got this game and…no air bubbles…and the symbols are brightly colored on the towers. Thank you for the instruction. The minute I opened the instruction manual I knew I would need a video!!
I don't know if anyone will read this, as this review was 3 years ago and there appear to be no newer comments but - they seem to have made improvements. The marks are printed directly on the plastic now rather than on big transparent decals, they're significantly more visible, and I've played with the one I bought a good bit and never had a piece get stuck.
One time i got a chance to play this in a place where you could rent board like you can rent books. I played it with someone and it wasnt too bad. It was certainly MUCH better than the one that existed in the 90 where it was all out of cardboard and top down. It certainly would make for a nice prop piece to have on a desk or something though, and playing around with it like its a toy to just fiddle around wih and place random pieces is neat

True pieces get stuck often . bonus symbols are hard to read. They should have designed it so that players could rotate the pieces like regular tetris. Another thing, this game does not encourage speed of execution. Unlike the regular tetris where you are constantly under pressure..
