Probably the best race in the entire series. The two best drivers in the whole show battling it out in a fiery race of extreme concentration and skill. The other races are absolutely awesome too but this one feels so powerful
Gotta admit, when properly timed (like here), the song works really well with the way the overtake scene is cut from 1:39 to 2:27. To actually have the song timed a bit more faithfully to the original scene from the 1st Stage, mute the video, set it to 0:58-1:00 and play Beat of the Rising Sun from the beginning alongside it. Then it fits almost perfectly, as if the scene was made with the song in mind. :P
Ryosuke doesn't braking for no reason. He can push the car, but his front tires already giving up before this last corner. If he keep on drifting, he could oversped drifting and eventually killing himself by kissing the divider. Ryosuke emotional control is insane here.

The problem with legends apart from no Eurobeat is that it doesn't explain things fully. Like Shingo's explanation about Ryouske over speeding is just plain incorrect. What happened was that Ryouske lost grip of his tyres because of driving behind Takumi for so long and barely being able to copy him. Thus his car slid to the side and created an opening. Takumi on the other hand still had grip which is why he knew he could get inside the line after cornering from the outside and once he took the inside corner he was able to keep control of his car the whole turn. Also a very nice touch the original adds is that after Takumi gets in front, Ryouske lifts his feet from the accelerator thus signifying that he has lost. And also the original animated the leg movements perfectly. It's just the overall better version to watch but this animation is pretty cool.

I got goosebumps in this scene. You can hear that the 86’s engine is roaring louder which means that it’s closing the distance between him and the FC. Absolute badassery.
I don't see anybody talking about this, but in this version nobody says "their lines are going to cross!" Instead they SHOW the same idea with the masterpiece of camera work in 2:17 - 2:27. Just chills all around.
The problem with Legend 3 is the way it's animated makes it look so choppy compared to the original anime. That ruins any sense of speed that it tries to go for.

Nah, Takumi went pro as a Rally Driver, went down a ravine because an axle failure and his career ended early because he couldn't recover fully from the wounds, became an instructor and Kanata from MF Ghost was his disciple at a racing school.

The whole point was that Takumi wanted to take the inner line. He knew Ryouske would oversteer because of his tires having no grip and he wanted to use that opportunity to take the inside line since the 86 absolute cannot out speed any other car on a straight. If he got the lead then he would win. So he went to the middle, kept his distance and waited, and finally crept inside.
I didn't have issues with the J-Rock in Legend movies, especially on the first one. But man...Takumi's overtake to Ryosuke without 'Beat of the Rising Sun' feels soulless.
This is a little late but it's not actually Battle Stage. It's called New Initial D Legends and it's a trio of movies that remade the first season of Initial D.
Takumi's lack of pro racing experience and luck plays a big factor in him winning when he chose the outside line and slid in BECAUSE Ryosuke's tires lost grip at the exact moment. A pro racer like Kyoichi would have chosen the inside line and be blocked by Ryosuke who is in the lead in the inner lane. Also, in Legends, Ryosuke sounds so much more like DIO when he's angry/anxious. I know that the voice actor for DIO is the same for Ryosuke in Legend and Original series, but the original series Ryosuke sounds much less DIO-ish. 😂
