Love your work and how you show how to do this, I have included Antlers in my jewelry line and I love picking up tips and tricks that you have done. Thank you
Watched this video and decided to make a wedding set as a gift for my niece. Bought the elk antler at a pet shop. Do not have a dremel but used a dremel grinding bit in my drill and they came out beautiful. Changed your method slightly but it was a lot of fun. Hopefully her and her fiance like wearing them as much as I liked making them. Going to try the inlay next. You do great work and I appreciate the videos.
Just found your utube vids. Impressive. Just getting back into working with antlers and wood. The no lathe part is the greatest. Was wondering how I was going to do my rings easier than holding in my hands and hoping for best. Keep up the great work.

I’ve been asked to make an antler ring for a man for a wedding ring. I have got stuff already. I mostly work in stone making cabochons, but I’m excited to try antlers.
Im having issues getting the inlays to stay in the grooves, I'm using mica powder and CA glue as suggested. I dremmel my design tap the powder in and follow up with the CA glue. Seems to full nice and glue eventually soaks in, next day on sanding alot of the inlay just pulls out.
Very nice video! I have made a tutorial on making rings (and other antler crafts), but I haven't done the inlay like you show here. I like the idea with drill, especially for those who don't have a lathe. Some other things I've done with antler are letter openers, writing pens, and whistles. On the coffee ring (and I am assuming the turquoise ring) did you just free-hand dremel the design in? or did you have another way of making the design?
The turquoise one yes, the coffee one I used my transfer method and then dremeled it out. This is how I do the transfer www.usskullhunter.com/how-to-transfer-a-design-onto-a-skull Hope that helps!
I’ve noticed when I inlay copper wire into my antler rings, the expansion and contraction of the antler ring itself ends up popping out the inlay. Have you noticed this in your rings, and any tips to avoid it?
I was wondering if you could use wire. Would be less messy than the powder and more likely to be hanging around the shed. Have you tried melting with a soldering iron?
Im unsure of the process you use for wire inlay but typically the best results are by using an engraver chisel to undercut your groove thus making the bottom of the groove to be inlayed wider than the top. Then use a small hammer to gently pound the inlay metal into the groove which smooshes the metal outward into the bottom of the groove. It makes a keystone effect which locks it in. Then sand off the excess metal and polish it. You can probably make the chisel yourself if your are handy enough to craft rings from antler. This is the technique jewelers and engravers use to inlay metal. Hope that helps and best of luck...I plan on giving it a try in the very near future.
