I just started reading his book, 3 chapters in and I asked myself "is this even real or just a myth?" And then I stumbled upon this comment and now all my doubts are clear. It's like yoganandji left me a message 🙏
Paramhansa Yogananda looked so incredibly happy and peaceful immediately before his death..... the sweetest, happiest smile consumed his face and his eyes beamed. He died young, and I bet he way happy to do so!!!! He had done his job here, done it quite well, and was ever-so-ready to see some new scenery!!! He is my ultimate, favorite yogin. He died almost the same year I was born. I would have loved to know him, but I know him through books and old movies, so I am thrilled to get this gift of seeing him speak. I had a huge poster of him hanging in my yoga studio in Mississippi. And looking at it gave me peace.
You know, I think my heart skipped a few beats watching him enter in to super conscious state of mind. I almost felt like take me with you. But that's never how it is. He looked so at peace and excited and ready for what's beyond life. I can't contain myself when I think about the bliss he has guided us.

The great Master of Wisdom Sage Ashtavakra ( Means he had defects at 8 ( Ashta) parts in his body. Despite this the Sage was felicitated by the great King Janaka Maharaja.( pl. read great Hindu Purana's to know all these matters of Wisdom) Do not show your ignorance by only looking at the outside temporary bodies; view the ATMA or SOUL in the body. Then your view will improve.

Yogananda said those who read autobiography of yogi I will be with them. He is in his astral form he will take human form around 2130 next hundred 110 years… (as written in book conversation with Yogananda) . if we are lucky and keep him in prayer we might meet Yogananda Gurudev in next life or very lucky you might meet him in this life as well.

@@fedam8826 Actually he took Samadhi( i.e leaving the body by choice)...He did not die by any heart failure.....After taking Samadhi,one's heart stops....You can read his Autobiography that after he died there was no change in his body for 32 days(Colour,hardnesss etc)..And he did not teach Yoga to earn money he was a Parmahansa therefore he did not have any lust for material wealth... Arun Saha, don't be an ass. This was in the early 1900s where the western world was afraid of any other religion other than Christianity. He incorporated Christianity to make it more acceptable and made ppl realize that the essence in all religions are the same. I'm pretty sure you didn't read his books didn't you? He has done much more than what you have done so what gives you the right to tell others not to follow his teachings?. You being an Indian, you're clueless on what Yoga is and on what principles Yoganandaji lived by.

If I peer into the future I think India will turn into America and America will turn into India. I am glad the kernels of Indian wisdom have found its way to the west and is not entirely lost. Its like how the writings of aristotles,plato and others were preserved in the middle east during the dark ages only to be later studied after the age of englightenment set in europe. India is going thru materialistic change and the new is fast eroding the old. Not everything will surive but glad a few things aer preserved in the west even if it is being used for personal pursuits.

jimbob202019 Indeed as a Indian and Hindu I can feel the yugas turning. I also feel in the temperament of people. At the moment Americans and the west are militaristic and ancient Aryan values of valor with righteousness bears upon them like the characters in Mahabharata but in the end it does lead to a war but righteousness and values that are transcendental needs to be preserved across yugas. India killed the militarism in itself via yoga and buddhism but the seeds remain in all societies waiting to sprout at the right time. It just moves around to other societies and yugas.

Dear, I don't know but i think Shiva is a character personification of the Vedas.. you may study him as what Vedas teaches you.. he is a character to show you the greatness of yoga.. you may see a living Shiva in "The Swami Vivekananda".

The first time I saw him was in picture form in a meditation structure looking out over the ocean in Santa Monica around the year 2000. I thought he was female first. A strange thing occurred while in there. A middle aged lady was meditating in the back of the structure. I didn't hear her move, and, when I looked around again, she was right behind me, still meditating, but, much closer to me, as if she transported through space and time.

this is absurd. Yogananda was there during WWII and he's telling people how to sleep and relax? There was the Great Depression, people all around the world were suffering and starving and killing one another. Nothing about stopping the war.
Scotty. I think you don't know the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, because he told a lot of things about the war between the nations, and he was a gret defensor of peace and asked a lot for stopping the angry and the war. This teachings are not in the Autobiography, but in his lessons to the students and in the texts that are read in the temples of SRF around the world. The meditation in God is a powerfull way to stop the war, too. You should look at yourself and stop criticizing the others.
Does anyone else think he looks and sounds like John Lovitz? I'm not making fun of yogananda I read his books and really enjoyed Diary of a yogi but there is a very uncanny resemblance of the two. I think.
Am I the only one who wants to believe in all this soul, super conscious bliss etc. but finds it bat shit crazy the descriptions of Gurus with supernatural powers in the autobiography of yogi.
It should be the prospect of your existence and your experiences thus far keeping you up at night, the superpowers are more like a gauge of your spiritual progress as you escape from disillusionment. When they do leave you uncertain maybe try calling out to one of the gurus mentioned in the autobiography, even mentally, anticipating a response. You may be surprised.

In spite of this sad story, the Guru, still blesses those sincere seekers, you can speak to him directly. you can find just about everything. I think there are two major organizations of his followers. I think both sell all his books and audio tapes. You probably can find some in libraries, for free...or through inter library loan, for free. Or go to Amazon and find used copies...those would be extremely cheap.

The alternative I guess is that we feel guilty for all of the actions of others. . ? if America drops a bomb on an innocent school of children, I should feel guilty for it? why. . ? it wasn't me who did it. True strength is unconditional love, not denial. . But guilt is one of the best means of control. . used in politics, religion.. and the very construct of a culture/country is religious in nature. If karma reacted instantly, it wouldn't be karma. It lays down the future. . There is a lag.

@@fedam8826 Actually he took Samadhi( i.e leaving the body by choice)...He did not die by any heart failure.....After taking Samadhi,one's heart stops....You can read his Autobiography that after he died there was no change in his body for 32 days(Colour,hardnesss etc)..And he did not teach Yoga to earn money he was a Parmahansa therefore he did not have any lust for material wealth... If I peer into the future I think India will turn into America and America will turn into India. I am glad the kernels of Indian wisdom have found its way to the west and is not entirely lost. Its like how the writings of aristotles,plato and others were preserved in the middle east during the dark ages only to be later studied after the age of englightenment set in europe. India is going thru materialistic change and the new is fast eroding the old. Not everything will surive but glad a few things aer preserved in the west even if it is being used for personal pursuits.
i entirely and completely endorse your views....it is such a shame that materialistic indians are not able 2 realize the potential of their great ancient vedic culture which is a foundation of all cultures...India is in threat of vedic cultural extinction..anyway, i just hope and pray that more and more people take this knowledge of jyana(knowledge,wisdom) kriya(yoga meditation, bhakti(divine love, devotion to that lord),karma(selfless service to all being)to people around the globe and that supreme lord within you and evrywhere

At the moment Americans and the west are militaristic and ancient Aryan values of valor with righteousness bears upon them like the characters in Mahabharata but in the end it does lead to a war but righteousness and values that are transcendental needs to be preserved across yugas. India killed the militarism in itself via yoga and buddhism but the seeds remain in all societies waiting to sprout at the right time. It just moves around to other societies and yugas.

The first time I saw him was in picture form in a meditation structure looking out over the ocean in Santa Monica around the year 2000. I thought he was female first. A strange thing occurred while in there. A middle aged lady was meditating in the back of the structure. I didn't hear her move, and, when I looked around again, she was right behind me, still meditating, but, much closer to me, as if she transported through space and time.

this is absurd. Yogananda was there during WWII and he's telling people how to sleep and relax? There was the Great Depression, people all around the world were suffering and starving and killing one another. Nothing about stopping the war.

I think you don't know the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, because he told a lot of things about the war between the nations, and he was a gret defensor of peace and asked a lot for stopping the angry and the war. This teachings are not in the Autobiography, but in his lessons to the students and in the texts that are read in the temples of SRF around the world. The meditation in God is a powerfull way to stop the war, too. You should look at yourself and stop criticizing the others.
Does anyone else think he looks and sounds like John Lovitz? I'm not making fun of yogananda I read his books and really enjoyed Diary of a yogi but there is a very uncanny resemblance of the two. I think.

I had a dream that my Guru blesses himself!
Am I the only one who wants to believe in all this soul, super conscious bliss etc. but finds it bat shit crazy the descriptions of Gurus with supernatural powers in the autobiography of yogi.
I'm trying to get into the book and spirituality in general, but all the superpowers and stuff keep me skeptical. You're not alone.
It should be the prospect of your existence and your experiences thus far keeping you up at night, the superpowers are more like a gauge of your spiritual progress as you escape from disillusionment.
When they do leave you uncertain maybe try calling out to one of the gurus mentioned in the autobiography, even mentally, anticipating a response. You may be surprised.

sorry to disappoint you, Swami Kriyananda is the man who betrayed the Guru and established his own organization to capitalize on it, he stole all his books and videos and is making a good living from it, the legitimate organization established by Paramahansa Yogananda is the Self Realization Fellowship. look them up. In spite of this sad story, the Guru, still blesses those sincere seekers, you can speak to him directly. Just look into his eyes in the famous picture of his face, I met him in a dream way before I stumbled upon the meditation gardens in Encinitas.

you can find just about everything. I think there are two major organizations of his followers. I think both sell all his books and audio tapes. You probably can find some in libraries, for free...or through inter library loan, for free. Or go to Amazon and find used copies...those would be extremely cheap.

The alternative I guess is that we feel guilty for all of the actions of others. . ? if America drops a bomb on an innocent school of children, I should feel guilty for it? why. . ? it wasn't me who did it. True strength is unconditional love, not denial. . But guilt is one of the best means of control. . used in politics, religion.. and the very construct of a culture/country is religious in nature.
If karma reacted instantly, it wouldn't be karma. It lays down the future. . There is a lag.
