Martin, I had assumed that 'Hawk's Pond' was a reference to some 19th century feature of the landscape. The fact that it's actually named for a good friend is a wonderful tribute.
A person is never truly gone as long as you have memories of them. Always grateful for your time of sharing a small part of your life, friendship or love of nature with all of us on You Tube. Rest in Peace Hawk.
Thankyou Martin for letting us in on your special friendship with hawk.I lost my fishing and hunting partner of 25 years 6 years ago to alzheimers.Things never have been the same.In thease past hunting seasons i would go alone and when i past his dear stand i would stop a gaze up on the hill where it was, somtime swallowing hard other times tears came down.If my partner Randy couldnt get a shot ,he would shoot an arrow out in front of the deer turning them around headed streight for my stand.I killed several deer because he did that.He was a good christian man who loved the Lord just like you Martin.
Hawk seemed to be the perfect friend, loyal ,sincere and a genuine guy, you have your memories cherish them for the rest of your life as I am sure you will.
Martin, the whole story of the cabin has enriched my mind. It's amazing to me that you have made me feel connected to it all . That's how good you have made this superb channel of yours. I thank you for all you have done here and for the memories you have shared of the truly wonderful friends who shared the journey along the way with you. God bless you sir and God bless you're dear friend Hawk.
When we die our energy force becomes available to another new human being. That is what happened to Hawk.Martin as I age I spend more and more time reflecting on the past, like you are doing. What are you’re plans to eventually end your time at the cabin?
This makes me realize what a lucky man I am to still have my closest friends here, with me. Thanks for sharing Martin. You honor your friend by keeping his memory alive. The song is ended but the melody lingers on. -Irving Berlin
Exactly what I was thinking too. The emotion still in Martin's voice after 25 years... He must have been a very special friend. I like that you can remember the good times you shared. Thanks for this video.
Thanks so much for this Tribute....After watching "The Bear Wanted In" I've always wanted to hear more about Hawk. I think it's neat that through your memories of Hawk, I now have memories of him too! Thanks Martin, Thanks so much!
Thank you Martin for sharing your friend ship with Hawk, I still hear the sadness in your voice at his passing. You can bet he’s keeping a watchful eye on you and the cabin!💕🌲🌲🌲
Nice story that needed to be told. You must have had your Powdermilk biscuits today made with whole wheat that gives shy persons the courage to get up and do what needs to be done! Well done Martin.
Nice tribute Martin. You were given a great gift of knowing him while he was with you. You don't always heal. We just re-learn how to live and function with the pain.
My two best friends are dead..I had the honor of being "Sharp" pall bearer he was 46,,I also had the great honor of putting'Stink" ashes in the Catawba River,he was 52..I had many great times with either one of them..I am 65 now and I don't let myself get close to people the way I used to..
It's not what you leave behind, when you pass, that matters. It's what people miss, because your no longer there, that will be remembered. ATB Martin The pond is a great tribute
I had a friend of 25 years died last year from sudden brain cancer. With me as an ordained minister, he would often talk about life and what and who God was. He was crass on the outside but a teddy bear on the inside. I prayed with him the night he died. The toughest thing I ever had to do was to do his eulogy while live-streaming to coworkers around the globe. Martin, you did a bang up job on eulogizing you friend in this video. God bless. Just know that the trails are easy in heaven. No down trees, no biting cold. Just smooooooth trails.
Nice Eulogy for Hawk, Martin I'am sure He's with You each time Your at the Cabin. I Love my Saturday Vid from the Cabin and strong coffee every Saturday morning here in Windy U.K
I can tell how much you love him and miss him. You are a good person and friend. It is so nice of you to share his memories with us. Thank you for sharing.
What beautiful memories you have of your best friend. That fact that you named the pond after him and built the bench is such a beautiful part of your story and memory.
Thanks Martin. What wonderful memories you have of you and Hawk. And what a beautiful tribute to your friend too. You sure had many great times together. 😊
Out of all of your videos this has to be one of your best. To honor your friend and the adventures you shared will always be there. Thanks for sharing.
Even though it was many years ago, I am sorry about your friend Hawk. It is hard to lose any friend or loved one. But when it is way too soon. And very unexpected, it is always a little harder. I bet you your friend Hawk is still watching over you. Smiling when you are enjoying yourself. Happy when you are getting work done or eating a good meal around the cabin. Laughing when you are screwing something up. Remembering all the fun you had together. And watching over you when you are resting and relaxing out there! He is still with you. And he always will be in your heart and your memories! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories of your friend Hawk with all of us! :)
Thanks for sharing the memories of your friend Hawk. The most enduring memories of our passed friends show us what is important in our lives and relationships today. That is one of the parts of your videos about bygone times that I like best. The bench on the pond seems to match Hawk very well. I suspect he'd like it a lot.
Sounds like a great man who you gave a great tribute to in this video and with the bench you crafted at his lake. Loved ones never truly die as they'll always live on in our memories.
People may not remember what you said or what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel. Thank you for the video, my condolences on your loss.
Hawk must've been one solid, stand-up kinda guy to have merited that much respect and caring from you Martin. God bless his memory, and thank you for sharing him with us as you have. Very poignant video, thanks for sharing it. Btw, I haven't forgotten the video in which you touched on the vessels up in the rafters, it still elicits strong emotions for me when I think of it. How 'bout you stickin' around for another 30 winters or so, ok?
Wow .. That answered an on going question ,about the pond name .. What a beautiful story .. I could listen for hours .. How would a person stay warm in 20 below zero temperature at night ?.. I would crawl right up into the fire.. what caused his early death? . Did he know the Lord ? Awe .. my goodness . I want to know more about Hawk ., That beautiful tribute bench . Is so touching .. I too shed a tear for Hawk.. Hawk May he RIP .with the Lord
Hawk died of a heart attack in his home. Hawk was a very moral man and had heard the gospel and listened to some TV evangelists so I am hopeful in seeing him again Forty below at night is no problem with the proper down sleeping bag. Getting up in the morning is when it gets interesting.
Good friends impact our lives in different ways. What a shame for his life to be cut so short - but from your stories, it seems he surely lived it while he had it. Lovely memories.
Well done tribute Martin. I had a close friend who I'd known since I was a kid and worked with as well die at the age of 35 in his sleep. I think of him quite often especially during the Fall hunting season. We had some good times and great memories.
