I'm a high school head coach in Florida and I'm not a teacher nor do I have a college degree. I have a full time job and coach part time afterwards. No, you do not have to be a teacher nor do you need a college degree. As long as you have a job with a somewhat flexible schedule, it can be done.
Thanks 🙏🏾 for that insight how did you get started being a coach? I was interested in being a DC at one point.
Thank you because I was like what a for year degree I just trying to coach football.
How did you go about getting your foot in the door?
@Dmad usually volunteer. But make sure your local school board ok you. Also, some districts don't want to pay if you're not a teacher.
Just found your page, and love your getting started into coaching videos. I am looking into getting back into coaching after 10 years away from it. I am looking to start Volunteer for a year or 2 before I see about doing it full time. I do not have any teaching background, so i worry that will prevent me from being a full time coach when that time comes.
Noice vid I’ve actually thought about doing this when I’m older and this was a good tip sorta vid
very informative great content wish i knew someone like you so i could talk with someone about this
thanks for the great information
This was an awesome video, i cant wait to get started in 2022 after i graduate!
Best of luck!
Me 2
I was wanting to switch majors in my jr year my major is mass comm, but a lot of my freshman and sophomore year I took general studies coming from a 2 year school .
You touched on this a bit, but if you’re someone looking at coaching in HS, it’s a really great idea to intern at your local HS your Junior/Senior year of college. This helps build connections and gets your resume built up a bit.
Totally agree!
I talked with my old high school coach and he said to try to get that experience by being a volunteer coach ASAP, from what I got from him is start trying even as a Freshman in college to get as much experience as possible for when you graduate.
I’m a Freshman in college right now and the plan is to finish the first 2 years at my community college then finish up at a 4 year in a Education: Math Degree so I can be a Math Teacher/Coach. This video really hits on some solid points but you need to get cpr certified and since I’m in Alabama complete the ASHAA lessons to be a certified coach… check your state for the requirements and best of luck!
Pls any advice for a young coach wanting to move states with little coaching experience but a lot of playing experience
Question brotha so I want to become a high school football coach what are the qualifications do I need a big degree or what man ??
very informative, does the teaching route still apply if I play college football. The staff at my school seems to like me and due to an injury offered me other ways to stay around if I decide not to play so I feel confident I have somewhat of an in.
Personally the teaching route is the way to go. As your in college if you are in an education program having a license to teach in whatever state your in is very valuable. Even just helping out with the football program your with will look really good to a head coach that is hiring you as an assistant coach if you ever decide to go that route or even principals hiring as you as a teacher. Personally If I was hiring you and saw you helped with a college football program. That would stand out to me, because it shows volunteerism and a willingness to work hard. Best of luck to you
Being a football coach is easy I would be like." OK quarterback, you hand off the ball to the person behind you or if there are too many people try to pass the ball to someone in front of you, or sometimes you can run yourself just try not to get tackled ok. Then if you guys run a long distance, then you will have someone kick the ball over those two sticks
Do you coach o Line
Could I still coach high school football if I never played it
Yes you could!
If you study the game and take up assistant coaching jobs to learn positions and scheme. He said it best though, gotta go down teacher path.
Play madden learn routes and coverages
Good video I graduate in 2023 and can’t wait
I'm not and probably never will be a teacher just want to coach youth football
That’s a great thing too!
Logistics
If I get my teaching certificate and minor in health, do you think it would be difficult to get hired to teach health?
I think it would be hard to become a health teacher, because everyone that coaches usually teaches health. But I think if you have something else you can teach I think that makes you a little more marketable as a teacher. I went to college to teach Health/PE but have taught it very little. I got biology on my license and have taught that for many years
Hey can you do a visor giveaway pls I need one
Maybe soon!
