    I lock my P slide to the rear when I get on the range, drip a tiny bit of lube down inside of each rail. Few drops on the barrel, on the end and the top where it meets the slide, cycle it a handful of times and never have an issue. It gets a field strip, wipe off every month at most and that’s 5-7 range days/1500-2000 rounds. Nothing beyond a toothbrush.

      Why do you have to do that to a $4000 gun out of the box? It doesn’t make sense that you can’t shoot any ammo you want and treat it like a Glock. Not getting my hard-earned money. I’d rather buy about 4 Glocks.

      @RamikinHorde 2 місяці тому +1

      @@DirtMcGirk This is literally the most clueless take I see. You're not paying for a duty reliable gun - that's LITERALLY not the point of it. It's like complaining that a F1 car requires more care than a honda civic - ridiculous.
      You want peak performance you pay for it in money and effort, hardly unique to firearms. If you don't care about peak performance and just want something to shoot into trash with that you never clean and never jams, go ahead and buy 4 glocks. That's a valid use case and you're not the target audience for this. That's totally fine, but acting like it's a ridiculous concept just because it's not what *you* value is hilarious.
      By your logic a basic AK is the greatest rifle on earth for every activity because it's so hideously overgassed that it never jams.

    • @DirtMcGirk
      @DirtMcGirk 2 місяці тому +2

      @@RamikinHorde Jamming if not cleaned after every range trip and having to lube the gun before you shoot it is peak performance? Not in the real world, bud. The Stacattos are just like owning a fancy car: Status symbol and that’s really it. And by the way, when it comes to doing what firearms were designed to do - and that’s shooting people - the AK is a fantastic platform. That’s why it’s been used by bad guys in virtually every single conflict since it was produced.

    I have a Staccato XC at 1500 rounds now. 1100 rounds of Blazer 115gr and 400 rounds of Winchester 115gr with 1 failure to feed. I do keep it well lubed (there is always excess oil on the web of my hand from the beavertail after range visits). I use Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil as the slide does get hot after a couple hundred rounds.
    My hands are not large and I find if I don't grip the gun just right the safety will be hard to actuate and also very uncomfortable. I have cycled the safety over a thousand times to break it in and that seems to have helped some.
    My only other complaint is the magazine release is a bit stiffer than I'd like, but that's an easy fix.
    Keep her well lubed up and see if that reduces the reliability issues.

    Most people I know, including myself, run a 9lb recoil spring in a 9mm 1911/2011. I know a couple people who run 10 or 12. I swapped out the hammer springs on my Para's, I think the 9mm is either 14 or 16lb. I typically shoot either 125 or 135 grain reloads at about 130 power factor. Never had mine not feed, it came with a 9lb recoil, I just changed the hammer springs based on feel. If it were my gun, I would try a 9lb and if it still did it, I'd want to figure out what's wrong with the way the round is feeding. Typically it's something to do with the angle of the round in the mag. Could be other things though. Over springing a 2011 is one way to "fix" things but the gun will be much smoother if you fix the actual problem and run a spring set that you like the feel of. At least that's been my experience.

      @hansmomberger8618 2 місяці тому +6

      As someone who shoots both a P and an XC I’m not surprised by either your experience with the P or Ben’s experience with the XC. My P will run with any duty or decent practice ammo as long as it has some lube. The XC is more particular and doesn’t like weak ammo, especially with the factory recoil spring. I know there are people who carry XCs on duty, but I personally would not.

    • @db84drteg
      @db84drteg 2 місяці тому +2

      My P choked within 100rds of my competition ammo (135pf). No mag made it through one drop in the dirt. So after two back-to-back mag failures, I cleaned the mags and the gun jammed right after and I couldn't get it working to finish the stage. Cleaned and lubed the gun then sold it because it couldn't survive one match, no way it would survive in a "duty" role.
      The one I watched a guy use in SWAT school hard stopped before lunch on day 1. He cleaned and lubed it, then failed out from failing a course of fire because his P hard stopped. It wouldn't chamber a round and locked up with a tap-rack. Staccatos are the worst performing "duty" guns I've ever seen or used.
      On a positive note, the ones not used outside in the southwestern desert seem to work alright, but I'm really not comfortable recommending Staccato for anything outside of inside, climate controlled use.

    Damn man, that sucks. Only trouble I've had out of any of my 2011s is short flat nosed bullets (American Eagle 147) and the XC eats those too. 7lb recoil spring is too light for reliable function in a gun you intend to abuse. I've said it somewhere and I'll say it again: the best facsimile of a 2011 that's reliable is an M&P 2.0 with an Apex trigger kit (using factory sear and trigger return spring) and an Apex semi-drop in barrel (go threaded if you want a comp). Same grip angle as a 19/2011 without the reliability issues.
    Before anyone jumps in and says "yOu'Ve NeVeR sHoT a 2011", I owned a C2 for a year before I realized my money could be better spent and was fortunate enough to break even when I sold it.

      Exactly! The fanboys can't stand to get their feelings hurt. I started shooting a 1911 and now in my mid-50's. I still have Gov. model Colt 1911's and Gold Cup that I purchased 25+ years ago, they shoot fantastic. But, what I shoot the piss out of with no issues are M&P pistols. I don't deal with jams or any other issues, just clean them on occasion and run the hell out of them. The craze with the 2011 pistols is hype and marketing. They are cool, but for reliability, they can't come close to matching the reliability of a M&P, Glock or Sig striker pistol.

    I’ve shot a staccato one time at the rental counter in my range. I had a couple failures during that time. It doesn’t strike me as a particularly reliable gun, which is why I get confused when I hear about law enforcement officers carrying it. Are they carrying a version with stiffer springs or something to prioritize reliability instead of low recoil? Also, I totally agree about how the slide feels sluggish. That was the main thing I didn’t like about shooting it. Maybe the rental gun I shot was just too dry.

Have you had success with your comped guns and CCI Blazer?Many ammunition manufacturers use the same method for their jackets, begs the question why don’t they have a CYA on their boxes? CCI is quality ammo in my opinion. It just doesn’t run reliably with my XC,MR920, CR920P,92SF.

    I have had ZERO issues with my Staccato XC (5000 rounds+) which is set up with a progressive rate 7lb recoil spring from Eeman (shooting 115’s over 4.4 grains of VN320 which puts me comfortably over minor PF). My XC also works flawlessly in this configuration with every brand of commercial ammo I have run through it. Finally, I do something to my XC which you are notorious for NOT doing - clean it after 500 rounds. Tolerances are much tighter and therefore require more attention and lube. I can’t say if it’s the either the progressive spring or the cleaning that has proven successful for me….Im just confident the combo works. And don’t forget there’s a break in period too. Love your content Ben.
