- Teaching children to add in Montessori is super easy using the Golden Beads. The Golden Beads are made up of cubes of 1000, squares of 100, bars of 10 unit beads, and single unit beads.
Small Number Cards are selected by the teacher and children must collect the corresponding number of Golden Beads. This Montessori method is perfect for teaching kids to add or for parents to teach their kids at home how to add.

Is there a reason for the different sized number cards? I notice that one set is larger than the other
Hi there Viviana. Nice to hear from you. Yes, there is. Here we are teaching children to add with the golden beads. The small number cards represent the numbers that we are going to add together, and the large number cards will be our answer. Showing the child that when we add two small numbers together we end up with a big number.
