Glad I watched this for the air filter. But I got the bonus information about the antifreeze leak. I’ve had a problem with that for a while. They told me it was a reservoir leak. I changed the cap and that seemed to get rid of the burning smell. But I just noticed the antifreeze level still dropping. I’m going to check that hose out now because I haven’t seen it leaking anywhere else. Thanks for that tip! I’m a woman so I have been ripped off before so I like learning how to take care of things myself.
Thank you and for sure that's why I'm glad I do know alittle bit because originally chevy wanted around 350 to do the thermostat job and they said they would then need to flush the system as well which was gonna cost another 140 I said oookay hold on a second. So trust me I know how they like to RIP people off for things they dont need or over charge them.
these videos are awesome. I have a 2014 chevy sonic 1.4 no turbo, and these have helped me out a bunch. I also had to replace my alternator before 50,000 miles. I ordered the MOOG steel sway suspension bars because the plastic ones make annoying noises. Also had to fix my mufflers, the flexible part coming off the headers had rusted and broken. Also the shifter button had the usual problem where it wouldn't come back out. Also my air breather tube that was mentioned in this video got cracks in it at like 30,000 miles. Annoying little things but I think it'll be a good vehicle now. Going to change the spark plugs, just did the transmission oil, brakes, etc at 60,ooo miles.
Just a quick question....I didn't see the need to take off the hose and disconnect the sensor? It seems like it would be easy enough to just take out the star screws and move the box to the side and put the new filter in?
Hahahaha they told you timing belt issues😂 they wanted to make some solid dough off of you, darn stealerships.. Glad you took your car right back! Thanks for the vid 👍 I had a coolant leak but it was on the same hose you had an issue with but it was the o-ring on the port that connects to the top of the thermostat housing with that tricky plastic clamp ontop of it.. Just sharing so peeps also check that out if they get a coolant leak ✌️
Yep and I knew it wasn't timing cause the car had like 70k miles on it or so. I usually spray down my engine bays so I figured it was a pulley or something along those lines. I actually pulled that tube out when I swapped the thermostat.
@@RspecNick did you replace your thermostat with a non-plastic one? Pretty silly they have plastic ones that mount onto the metal which gets hot, seems like a bit of a recipe for failure in the long run🤔
im from South Africa so I struggle with parts this side unfortunately.. Will see if I can source a metal one which doesn't need to be imported at a hefty fee😅 thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! Have a rad weekend✌️
Thanks. I did lose "coolant" after my car had sat unstarted or driven for 8 months in the extreme heat. I refilled it and it seems fine, but I will look where you said to see if it is leaking there. Turned out that the battery was dead. I hope that the alternator isn't shot. I haven't noticed the fan running constantly so I don't think so, but I will keep an eye on it. I will also be giving that intake tube a lookin over as well. Thanks again!
Hey I did the air filter replacement, but the part that you called a “carbon bag” is dirty. Do you know what part I should look up for it to replace it ?
@@faithwashington1530 I do not know it unfortunately I tried looking for it when I did the filter and I never could find that bag I'm guessing it might be a dealer only item which is order item. They may have even completely redesigned it to remove that cause most cars don't have that bag.
Hey great video, quick question… do you know where I can purchase carbon bags? I tried looking it up however nothing comes up. I need to replace mine. Thank you in advance.
Mr nick i have a question about the 1.8 automatic transmission. At how many rpm the transmission shifts (2500 -3000 or 3500 rpm) please thanks I’ll appreciate you
Depends on throttle response really if your soft of the gas pedal should be around 3000 RPM. If your at around 3/4 of the gas pedal it should shift closer to around 4500 to 5000 RPMs
Rspec Nick ok the reason of this question is because as u know this car doesn’t had a temperature gauge and i installed an autool gauge for the temperature engine so but u have to set up the RPM shifting for the transmission so and i did for a 2500 but car shift to quick so i want to get an idea to set up the factory rpm shifting.
I have a question I can’t find any leaks and my antifreeze kept dropping to where I had to keep refilling it and like I said no leaks anywhere and my car started overheating to where now it completely stalled on what you showed about the antifreeze leaking into the alternator could this be why it was doing it and could this cause my car not to want to start now
If you are loosing a lot of antifreeze and you physically see no leaks it could be a head gasket. That would cause loss of antifreeze with no visible leaks and the car to oveheat. Depending on how over heated the motor gets it could blow up.
I opened up my box and the filter was wet!! Do you know what might have caused this ? I just put a new filter in, cleaned mass air flow sensor, wiped out all the water and debris. Hopefully tomorrow I can see if it’s fixed
@@RspecNick water…. I think I have the leak in coolant and crack in air hose and the hot coolant leaked In and caused air hose to even open up Tomorrow I will replace all and hopefully end the problem! I can’t wait 4 weeks for Chevy appointment to get the part because of recall
Mr nick a very big question last week i did an oil change on my 2012 sonic .but i cant removed the filter because i dont have the socket size (15/16)so i did only the oil but is possible to do the filter once than i did de oil?(i got the socket size) please let me know thanks
Yea mine was pretty bad but I helped my friend change his in his 2011 subaru sti and that thing was packed with stuff. He had a huge improvement in airflow afterwords
Replacing it would slightly help. If you pull it out and it's dirty I'd change it. You could go with a K&N drop in filter there alittle more expensive but you can clean them so it makes it alittle more cost effective over a long time span.
@@RspecNick good cause the k&n reusable air filter caused oil to leak all into my air box… placed oem one back in works fine no more leaks but… I want a better high flowing filter for my exhaust they do make it sound a bit louder just will not ever get another k&n
