      @Soraia ljubtschenko Motta miniature schnauzer! i’ve loved the different personalities of every schnau i’ve ever met and they’re one of the cutest breeds in my eyes. they’re also the exact size i wanted, small but sturdy! it’ll be my first dog under 60lbs as well as my first schnauzer, so its gonna be a change but i think i can handle it!

    • @ameliej6690

      @Soraia ljubtschenko Motta in my experience, mini schnauzers are intelligent little things that adore and are extremely loyal to their families. they also act as a bit of a watchdog, which makes me feel better as i am a woman who lives alone (even though i know that a 15lb dog isn’t exactly going to fend off any intruders lol! it’s more of a psychological thing). definitely an awesome little breed, if you can tolerate a bit of barking!

    Hi Emily, I can’t tell you how helpful your videos have been for me! Because of your work I will be picking up a new puppy next week. Was really on the fence about getting a new dog after losing our old guy. My question is: do you recommend puppy classes for young puppies? (Trainer is of course positive reinforcement only but am wondering about the efficacy of training in small group.)

    Another great video and very informative for a new owner. I have a question regarding crate training. We are getting a puppy in a month. You mention in this video that in a weeks training the puppy might be just comfortable going in the crate and coming out. So, till he is crate trained do we let the puppy sleep on his bed in our bedroom? He will also need to go to the bathroom, say every 1.5 hours or so. Leaving him in the crate would be stressful for him if he is not trained yet! How do we manage this?

    Thank you for these tips. I've been watching a lot of your videos because they are so helpful. My puppy definitely needs to work on a few of these first. She won't even play with her toys though, so i'm struggling with trying to distract her from biting (biggest issue) since she's not really liking any of the toys I got her. Do you have a video link to help with something like this?

    We have a very mouthy beagle puppy. He bites at hair, clothing, leash, and basically wherever he can. When following the training to avoid these things, what do you do if he doesn't do the desired behavior. Say I'm training him to avoid biting the leash when putting it on. What should the response be when he does go for it?

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  3 роки тому +3

      Good question. I would just move the leash away and work with the leash at a distance at first. You can also when you put the leash on for a real walk, feed a treat AS you put on the leash to prevent it happening. Clipping the leash to a back clipping harness is much better because the leash wont dangle so much in front of the dogs face. I had a beagle for 17 years by the way. I love them soo much! I'm not sure if I could get another one to replace how amazing my childhood beagle was :)

    What's your opinion on impulse control games? For example holding a treat at a distance and closing your hand every time they make a move towards it / rewarding them for staying still.

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  3 роки тому +5

      In the video I linked in the bio on what to train first, It talks about how impulse control games are good for some puppies, but if you had a shy puppy that doesnt like being touched it wouldnt be the best game, teaching them to be more confident would be better. Also the training of closing your hand as they go for it is based on punishing the undesirable behavior first, so you could opt for impulse control games based on reinforcing the behavior you want before the undesirable behavior happens. for example thats why I teach the luring from a distance as shown in this video, so the puppy doesnt even have a chance to lick and bite at the hand and then morph it into luring from closer, if that makes sense.

    If I have three puppies, should I separate them and do all ten with each, alone?

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  5 місяців тому

      I suggest the first exercise you work on is teaching them to take turns taking treats and take turns for training, as well as being in another room in a pen alone- this will help you be able to train one at a time when you need. This video at the beginning covers that ua-cam.com/video/TAiJEbKFW6c/v-deo.htmlsi=b-8Z8tvnZMkboa3x

    My 11 week corgi puppy doesn’t respond to attention noises sometimes especially if he’s distracted :(

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  3 роки тому +2

      It just means you need to condition it more and try experimenting with some new treats that are high value to the puppy. You can also practice the noise a couple times before dinner when the puppy is more hungry. Sometimes talking in a high pitched voice after making the noise can entice the pup.

    Hi! I just welcomed a new puppy (a Swedish vallhund) and we are working in priority on the crate and separation since he's a real mama's boy. But since the breed is know to be very chatty and he's already barking when frustrated, I would like to start working on the barking now. Do you have advices/videos? Thank you for your amazing content!

    • @kikopup
      @kikopup  3 роки тому +2

      Work on the settle for food so that barking doesn't happen from not getting the treat fast enough, and when barking happens interrupt it using a kissy noise and redirect to something else, if the puppies not listening just pick the puppy up and calm the puppy with gentle slow petting. For things that excite the puppy, mark and feed for looking at whatever it is without doing anything.
