Really enjoyed this wee video it’s lika a back to basics but with a twist I have tbh as soon as you said it broke down and didn’t start I thought right away I’d be doing the simple checks and then I twigged like you it’s a start stop hence “broke down” lol just goes to show you need to be in you’re toes constant in this trade nice one buddy 😊
@@Gearhead90 isn’t it quite cool the way it goes from a breakdown situation to a no crank situation. And all because of the little details 🤔🤔🤔 I also found that pretty interesting. I’m glad you liked it even though it was simple in the wind up 😉👍👍👍
When I was learning to drive in my Dad’s Renault 12 estate back in the 80’s, it had a dodgy starter motor. When I stalled the car (hey I was learning to drive!), it wouldn’t restart. I had to hop out, open the bonnet and give the starter motor a whack with a hammer to get the car to restart. So I not only was learning to drive, I was learning car mechanics at the same time! 😂
@@davidmehlhorn726 aaahhh the good old days. When we all got our hands dirty or cut several times a day 😂😂😂 If only you had that ‘12’ nowadays it would be worth a pretty penny 💰💰
@@kennedysgarage3281 yes those were the days cars were cars and not iPads on wheels!😢. I remember when there was so much room in the old 12’s engine bay that you could almost step into it. Now modern cars engine bays are so crammed with stuff that you have to take off plastic covers, unclip fuel lines, move wiring looms out of the way, unplug injectors, undo and move turbo intake pipes and remove coil packs just to change spark plugs on my current car! Talk about turning a five minute spark plug change into a 30 minute swearing episode!😂
From experience, Peter, access to components is wodious on these - they are fantastic when going, brutal when broken. Wiring is also Rubic Cube stuff. They melt my head. So do their lorries. Broke out this week & bought the entire range of Milwaukee "Bolt Twirler" stuff - ratchet, 1/2" impact, 3/4" impact & all associated batteries/chargers. Changed the back axle on a Landcruiser today - absolute doddle using the fancy new gear - no bolt gave even 2 seconds of resistance. Very impressed. But then I am used to using rubbish, so why wouldn't I be? 1/2 ton of squashed walnuts lands monday - 1 BMW N47 sits awaiting blasting. We'll see how it goes - nuts probably. Guess we know where to start with that one now...

Start stop is a useless and unnecessary feature of modern cars. It either necessitates a much more expensive starter motor, or will cause a conventional one to fail quickly.
The 1.6 psa is one of the most reliable diesel engines made , granted doesn’t have to power of the bigger diesels , regular oil changes will see over 400k miles
@@ianbirch5811 I wouldnt say that - leaking injector seals, turbo's dying, head gaskets and egr faults are pretty common. 400k would be the exception rather than the norm for this engine. Compared to an XUD 1.9 they're crap.
280000 miles...how much stops, then starts??? How much save fuel and pollution in that time? And finally how much cost service, battery and starter motor? Do not forget that for producing that parts needed energy which made pollution too.

For some reason, I found the 1.6 in these lovely to drive. They were nice and torquey low down and had a smooth shifting manual gearbox.
