    agree with you, when you look at biomechanics fast shorter strides at the beginning makes you faster. I think thats because you can bring your mass inertia a little bit better(easier) forward and full strides would take to long ,after acceleration the strides have to be wider so can use full power of your legs, it doesnt matter if your strides need more time, youre already gained some speed.
    sorry if my english isnt that great ;)

    I think the crossover would be, is seems like you can get more of a push from it. Watch the NHL Skills comp and see how those guys start during the fastest skater, should give you an idea of which one is faster.

    Your best bet would be to get an old tire and rig up a way to pull it. Go hard for about 10-20 steps, for more resistance pull it up a hill. I am adding a bunch of drills to an article, I will put it in the video description

    My brother is a D-man and I'm a goalie, whenever we are on the ice we race and I've figured out because I have flatter blades I can't hit the ice like a speed skater and blitz by him. Pisses him off to no end lol (out of gear btw)

  • @Bassfanatic94
    @Bassfanatic94 12 років тому

    You definitely use the v start or some form of it in a game. As a defenseman and I see the puck squirt loose behind a forward I have to use a form of the v start to get quick acceleration and get to the puck. It would probably be better to say you use both forms of starts.

  • @howtohockeytraining
    @howtohockeytraining  11 років тому

    I explain it a bit in the video. It teaches you to turn your feet and have a quick stride recovery. If your stride recovery is too slow you will fall flat on your face. Also if you try to run on the ice you will fall.

    what is the best stick for easton

  • @howtohockeytraining
    @howtohockeytraining  12 років тому

    I mean the one I showed, getting your heels in the air and feet close together, you wouldn't normally be in that position. You use a form of it, especially if you are skating backwards, stop, and then go forwards.

  • @colbygf

  • @krabz_oem
    @krabz_oem 12 років тому

    In my opinion, the crossover start isn't used in a game situation as much as a V start, because you should always keep skating. You start with crossovers if your not skating. But it pretty much depends on the situation.

  • @howtohockeytraining
    @howtohockeytraining  12 років тому

    I agree, the first three steps will be shorter than when you get to full speed but the reason I think they are smaller is because you are going slow and there is no glide. If you watch the NHL fastest skater competitions those guys still have a good knee bend and full extension. I prefer to teach three "fast" steps instead of three "small" steps, just to ensure players don't get in the habit of intentionally taking small steps.
