  • In this Episode we leave the van behind and hit up a beautiful remote beach camp called steep point, i sleep in a double swag with the two kids and Jayde and Lahni sleep in the back of the car.
    We get the boat off and try our luck fishing, we get over to Dirk Hartog Island and check that out too. we see lots of sharks and some of the best sun rises and sets this country has to offer.
    we have our water tank break on the way out there and we loose 150 litres of water before we even start the camping trip, see if we stick it out or if we leave early. If you missed part one of steep point it gives you all the tips and what gear we take out to do this epic little trip so make sure you check that out first.

    We are a family of 5 travelling Australia indefinitely in our new Lotus Caravan and our 2021 F350 from Harrison F-Trucks. We will take you to many destinations and let you know what works for us and what doesn’t, so you don’t make the same mistakes.
    We are from Perth Western Australia and want to see as many destinations as we can together as a family, we never take the easy road and if we see a track, we always wonder where it will lead us, so we generally take it to see where it leads.
    Thanks for watching and reading if you have made it this far down, hope you enjoyed.

    200a is fine, problem is unless your moving often or have a decent sized solar you cant recoup the power used. 12a out of 2x 120w panels isnt great. Ive got a 370w LG House panel on mine with a 200a DCS battery, i use about the same as you overnight (about 110a consumed so 55%) and sitting static on a typical sunny day i get around 22-25a input. Going to a bigger battery bank is all well and good but you still need to recharge it at some point. A good interim solution for you is maybe look at the Hard Korr 360w folding panels, they should give you around 20a of input if you follow the sun with them, combined with the 5-6a from the hard mounted panel should cover your usage alot better.

      +Daniel very true mate. I ended up going 300w redarc blanket so should be all good now. 🤞🏼

    Pro tip sleeping in car, get a couple of windows shade socks. We chuck them on when we sleep in the car allows for the windows to be wound down with no bugs even blocks rain

    32:41 man, you caught a striped sea perch which looked like size, and a couple of chinaman cod. Both of these fish are excellent table fish and you would’ve had a yummy dinner. Sure, they’re not the biggest fish, but they’re tasty and great eating!

    That fish you called a Gurnard was actually a black tip rock cod and they're delicious. Very similar to a Charlie court / Chinaman cod.

      @lappingtheisland  2 роки тому +1

      +Riley Jones yeah when I was editing I seen it wasn’t a gurnard fish. Didn’t know it was a nice tasting cod though. Hopefully it grows up to be bigger. Fish if is hard when you don’t fish up here all that often. The fish is app has copped a flogging trying to help me.

    Hi, planning trip to Steep Point thanks for the detailed info .To seal the leak fuel ,water tank etc grab a bar of soap get a knife scrap off a small handful grab some bulldust add a little water at time while mixing till you achieve the consistency of putty , clean area and apply it goes hard sealing the leak. Definitely 400 amps of Lithium would help but if you can't get more amps in the battery the same result will occur in time , I would have thought the 2 panels would put in more power but the vehicle mounted isn't directed as well as the blanket. The bottom line there is no such thing as a free lunch ..induction etc uses power I take a gas portable.

      +Ian Dibley cheers mate That is a great tip. Yeah I have since upgraded the solar blanket to a red arc 300 amp can use it on both car and van where needed.

    FYI I go to steep point twice a year. If you head out of the bay and north along the island you will get some good fish. Would require a bigger boat. We drag a 5.8 metre Stessl out there and beach launch it. Get awesome Spanish mackerel, big baldys, snapper, yellow fin and heading due West to deeper ground have had some awesome results if you can beat the sharks.

    Nice vid guys. 200Ah in a canopy is heaps. If induction cooking you really need to be driving everyday (or have a heap of solar). Even 400Ah will give you the same problem the next day. Instead of thinking about your Ah of storage, think about your charging system. We charge our lithium at 140A straight off the alternator. You need to right battery though. Small storage, huge charge. No matter what the weather, even idling the car for 15mins gets you out of trouble.

      +Adam yes your right more amps more solar needed. I have a better solar blanket now so should be all good. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

    No point in adding more batteries when you cant keep the one you have charged, you need either more solar or a small genny to run a good sized battery charger . cheers.

    Turn that beer fridge back on! and buy a Coleman hyper flame gas cooker….at the end of the day you have no left over available space for a larger solar panel unless you increase the size of the blanket, 200ah would be plenty for the fridges then.

    • @lappingtheisland
      @lappingtheisland  2 роки тому

      +Aidan H yeah got a new solar blanket to solve the charge issues redarc 300 watt. Can use it on both car and van then. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

      +Garry Read could t use fire and gas takes up too much space and weight. Can’t take it all when travelling full time.

    Bloody hell... complaining that 200ah battery is not enough is just ridiculous. Get bigger panels for a start or better still ditch induction cooking and use fire or gas ( which is what real camping is about)

    • @lappingtheisland
      @lappingtheisland  2 роки тому

      +Ronald Reagan wasn’t complaining mate just stating that with my boat on I don’t get charge, I have since got a 300watt blanket to help keep charge up. Trust me if we could have fires there we would of but not allowed.
