In this video I teach you how to fix your AC unit quickly when it is not blowing cold air. If it is blowing hot or warm air, you likely have a bad capacitor. I also teach you how to clean your HVAC unit and how to choose the best filters for air flow and efficiently.
Warning. Please research how to properly discharge your NEW and OLD AC unit capacitor. They both may/will hold electricity that is dangerous. It easy to safely discharge the unit, just be sure you are careful.

Be careful removing the capacitor, it stores electricity. You should always decharge the old and new capacitor before handling it. You can short it with an insulated screw driver common to herm and common to fan connections

    Hello everyone,
It was mentioned in the video, but I just want to remind everyone to PLEASE make sure you connect the wires to the new run capacitor exactly as they were before. If the wires are connected wrong you may blow your fan motor or worse. Good idea to take pictures or a sure fire method is to label the wires b4 you disconnect the old/bad capacitor. There is also a run capacitor on the air handler unit inside the house that helps the blower motor start. It is usually the outside capacitor that solves the problem though.

My unit is a wall hung BARD unit that was making a huge racket outside and blowing warm air into the house here in FL. It got to 94 degrees inside. The A/C company came out and said the fan and motor were bad so he replaced it, put a little freon in the unit and it worked, but it's still making a racket even with the new fan and motor, it seems to skip a little and you can see the fan wobble inside. They are coming tomorrow and said they were going to charge me for labor. I paid $575 for the first fix on Oct. 19th! They mentioned the compressor. I said that if it was the compressor, the problem was misdiagnosed. It's very cool in here and the compressor kicks on just fine. I'm wondering if I'm being ripped off or what. Any advice? Thanks!

To start with the basics, are you sure you have put it in AC mode for the season? You would be surprised how many people request service calls for that. If you have, then you will need to find a more advanced video and person. You could have a leak, have compressor, etc. I do not have advanced knowledge past the basics, I'm sorry. Make sure that fan is really kicking ok, capacitors can slowly go bad and kick the fan on when you check, but then stop being able to start it by the time you are inside. I've had ones only make it 12 months

Yeah no, I've paid 2 different techs that both charged me $79 to diagnose the issue and they both couldn't figure it out. They both suggested I just replace a 12yr old unit with a new one. At a cost over over 5k. My issue:
One day my ac went out, after trouble shooting, found out that the thermostat wires on my roof top a/c were so sun dried that they hade exposed wires and clearly took out my transformer (volt test showed I had 120 but no 24v. So I ran new thermostat wires and waited for my new transformer. 6 days later I installed and boom. Got 24volts and both the blower and compressor kicked on. Got off the roof went inside just to find out it's blowing hot air. Couldn't see any mixed wiring, so I thought it needed a charge. First guy came and told me that mechanically everything is fine. It has plenty of Freon and the pressure gauges don't seem to show any leaks. But he couldn't figure out what the issue was. So I called another company and they said the same thing, they tested the hi and low side and said everything there was fine. But couldn't figure out why the coils weren't getting cold. So now I'm stuck with having to pay 5k for a new unit after already investing $150 in new parts. Blah. Thanks for reading my rant.

No cold air here, so I took a look at my capacitor and it doesn't seem like it's about to pop, it actually looks brand new but it's not, it's the original capacitor from 11 years ago when I bought the rooftop unit new, then. Replaced the inside filter is new and the surrounding coils are clean. I tried the stick test like you did, but it wouldn't catch on unlike yours that needed just a nudge. I have a capacitor on order, so I'll replace it when it arrives. If it's not the capacitor, what else should I check. The unit turns on and I have the Fan setting on On instead of Auto on the thermostat. It does make a noise and the vents are blowing air just not cold. What am I missing?

The expensive filters are not primarily a marketing ploy or rip off. The higher the MERV rating the cleaner the air. Did you know a MERV 13 or greater will captuure Covid 19 germs and keep them from recirculating throughout a building. Here is the issue under normal conditions. If you don't have enough air flow as happens often because return lines aren't sized properly you choke off air flow and can burn out fan motors and not get enough cfm's at the registers. So making a blanket statement that they're rip off is moronic
