  • Thought I would give you my rookie impressions of my new Suunto Novo. I am a novice diver (2 years) and what I thought of the dive computer on my first dive trip using it.
    EDIT - 5:07 I do now realize that the longer strap was for Dry Suite Divers. I actually ended up getting certified as a dry suit diver as well.

    Thanks for this. That’s quite cool that it shows the depth graph. Definitely considering getting one as my first dive computer. Cheers

    Nice review. I have this computer as well and you pointed out a feature I didn't know with the up button and seeing all of the assent. Pretty cool. Going to be diving in the next day or two will test that out.

    Thank you for the great review! I never had a dive computer before (i used gauges) so it helped me a lot. It seems like it's a perfect first comp, and the price is great. Your review really helped me in being sure that it will be a good buy :) Hope after i bought it, i will have the chance to see how it works in action fairly soon too :D

      Glad it helped. Nothing bothers me more about product reviews than when they just do an unboxing with no real world use.

    Great review! Super informative and you covered a lot of useful information. Very helpful that you dove with it and were able to comment on how it performed under water and showed previous dives in the log. Also, if a newer diver can manage this computer with ease, I feel it is very well built. Did it kick in for the safety stop and do you know if it has an alarm if your ascent is too fast? Thanks again.

    i have the exact same model my first dive computer,i found this video ,very helpful,i am a novice ,finishing my practicals and 2 ow dives in spain ,jan 2020,i did discover diving ,while in the middle of my course,august 2019,i am not as big as a wuss as i was,i have my own wet and dry suit,now ,and a bcd,or bc ,rash guard ,flippers,booties ,goggles&snorkel,gloves,and a nice cruise bag to carry it all in,the mares cruise roller is handy,as you can roll it like a normal travel case,it also has shoulder straps,so that you can carry it like a rucksack,i must admit,i would also like a smaller bag ,for when i get to my destination,i pick one suit or the other.i am from ireland ,so cold water diving ,is my thing,not (arctic) yet.until i get really confident ,everything else is rentable,i am looking at go pro cameras,quite pricey,down the road,i will get one eventually,and airlines,mine would have to be cold water rated.

    good review the long strap is for drysuit with winter undersuit

  • @abyssalreclass

    I got one of these used from my dad when I started diving. A word about the USB cable, it is crap. Even the slightest bit of moisture in the connection will cause it to refuse to connect, and it is also a rather loose connection and sometimes has to be held in place while downloading dives. The long strap is essential for drysuit diving, though it'd be good if a shorter one was offered.

      Thanks for the info. I realized why the strap was longer when I took my dry suite training.

    What would be great would be to do a updated review, because you still got the Suunto Novo after so many years, so I guess your pro and cons had changed a little bit, secoundly a updadted review would show, the huge quality of the divecomputer, because it seems it works still as great as it does when he was new.
    So I would appreciate if you would do a updadted review, telling how many dives you had and if you are still happy choosed this one.

    30 degrees? woah you're lucky, I'd love to dive in such warm water, I'm currently thinking of getting an upgraded computer, I'm using the mares puck pro, and I'm considering either mares smart, suunto zoop novo, or aqualung i200. All of them cost around 200 euros where I live, but I haven't made my mind yet. One big thing I like this models is they show you the daytime underwater, and as an Instructor I need this to be on time with my customers and students. My dream watch was cressi newton, but it won't tell you the time underwater

      Honestly, I think for the amount of diving I am doing. This product is great. For a Novice diver like myself I love it for keeping track of my dives until I hit that more experienced level. You should try to check one out at the store to see if you like the size and feel.
      Would recommend diving the Caribbean. I know the area is a mess now after all the hurricanes but some areas were unaffected. Great water and so warm.

    I hear you on the strap length, however its necessary if you're diving in cold water where you need a wet suit thicker than 3mils, great video

    • @dharmaboy75

      Correct. I was so new to scuba diving I didn't realize what all the length was for till I did my dry suite training.

    Thanks for the video. I am considering the Novo to replace my old dive computer. I have a question for you. Can you change the units to show the depth in ft while still showing the temperature in Celsius?

    • @dharmaboy75
      @dharmaboy75  6 років тому

      You can only switch between Metric and Imperial as a whole. I had to do some mind calculations to get what I wanted as well. The Pro level higher end units probably have more customization.

    Good review, thank you, I bought one 3 weeks ago before saw this, one question, on your logged dives mode, what are the digits, left hand side in the middle, it looks like a time, due to there being two dots between the numbers, is this the time you went in the water or the time you got out?

    • @dharmaboy75
      @dharmaboy75  5 років тому

      I believe this number is the time you hit that depth at the given moment you have the markers at. At the end of the dive you see the duration which is the final number

      @@dharmaboy75 Having done another dive a few days ago, I mentally made a note of times and discovered on the dive logs that it is the time that you entered the water, your actual dive time is in the bottom right, add your dive time to the time you went in and that will give you your exit time.

    Great review, when I started diving I also thought about this watch, but when I saw it it felt too big to me, so I choiced 2022, the Atmos Mission one, but I saw may divers who wear a Suunto Nova, 2021, when I did the OWD.
    It's just a shame they didn't ship it with a usb-cable, $100 for a cable is just respectless. 😥
    What dive computer do you use now?

    • @dharmaboy75
      @dharmaboy75  11 місяців тому +1

      I just the use same one to this day with over 50 Dives as I only got to dive last year post COVID. I will continue to use this one for many years as it just works. Even my wife who has over 100 dives and is at a Dive Master level uses a different color version of mine. They just work and are simple.

    • @benheckendorn2696
      @benheckendorn2696 11 місяців тому

      True, I bought a Mares Smart, as a secound and Backup Divecomputer, because Batterie could be replaced by user, which is great if you want to use it as a backup. I guess whatever would be your path, if you would be a tec diver etc. The Suunto Nova would be a perfect Backup Divecomputer.
      When I saw you didn't upload any new clips of diveing for four years, I was a little bit sad, because I thought you gove up diveing. 😥
      True covid made it very difficult to go diveing.

    Unfortunately this review still falls into the same box as the just-opened-the-box reviews, to me. What I want to see, as a new user, is the screens under water and the various events such as safety stop info etc. The strap is long for those of us who dive drysuit of course.

    • @dharmaboy75
      @dharmaboy75  3 роки тому +3

      Well not gonna see any of that from most divers specially when you are doing a safety stop and controlling your buoyancy at a beginner level. You are paying attention more to safety than recording a review video. Thanks for watching.
