You are amazing and I realize I need to tell you and other youtube artists how much you have changed my life. Thank you and more details to come but you are so brave and my hero. I am sending you love and good vines.
Fantastic video! Loved watching you paint the stones and water. The sound of the rushing water is so soothing. Beautiful painting! Now I need to go paint some stones and water❤️
Gouache has recently become my favorite medium as well. There are sooooo many watercolor artists/channels out there, so I love that you focus mostly on gouache--it's harder to find good tutorials on that and when I do, it's often really cartoony stuff which is not my thing. I look forward to learning more about mixing gouache and w/c. Thanks as always for sharing--love your videos so much. They really inspire me!
Thank you so much! I agree there are a lot of gouache channels that focus on more of an illustration style or a sort of 2D version of a landscape. I've watched hundreds of them just to have some gouache company LOL. I wish there were more. Some more channels that I recommend who use gouache in a similar way to me (but way better), check out: James Gurney, Lena Rivo, Jared Calum...I'm sure you know them already, but if not you'll love them!
@@SarahBurnsStudio Oh! Another artist I haven't heard of. Thanks so much! Good thing it's the weekend because I have a lot of binge watching to do. LOL
Love, love your painting, inspiring personality and seeing watercolor and gouache used together. Never have tried but will now that I've seen you at work. Go girl!!!!! USA here.
It's so pleasing to see you add the darker water around the foreground rocks. Negative painting takes vision and skill that is hard for me and many that are early in their learning to develop.
Thank you! I used watercolor before I started with gouache, so thinking in the negative space mindset is more normal for me - but it's still very challenging!
Beautiful video, as well as the place you were in. Following you I just started with gouache after some years with wcolour only. The way to mix them is a new frontier, at least for me, I'll continue to follow your work. Thanks for sharing it.
Beautiful painting, Sarah! And most excellent GoPro footage. :) Wouldn't it be nice to pay an assistant to edit and do some of the business side of things... problem is, it is SUCH hard work that it would be hard to pay them enough LOL. You do a lovely job with your videos and I'm sure everyone appreciates the effort you put in. I'm so happy too that spring is here, have fun out there!
I was out too for the first time this year Sarah. The river is still frozen, but it was supposed to get up to 10 Celsius today...so we should see water soon.
Beautiful! 😍 About how long in real time did that take you? I would love to see a "What's in my backpack" or what you take with you when you go out for plein air painting!
Love this so much! Rocks & water- love /hate relationship! You are so lucky to live in a beautiful area where there is so much inspiration around you. I live in scenery challenged N. Texas! I know there are some “paint worthy” areas, but ya gotta look hard for them! I feel I do much better work in plein air, it’s just hard to find places to paint. However, spring wildflower season is coming, so that will help.
I imagine that's such a difficult thing to want to paint outside but lack the beautiful scenery. Just think of James Gurney though, he paints alley ways and abandoned houses and creates masterpieces 😄
Yes, that is a video I've been planning for a while, I've just been waiting for better weather so I can break out all the gear (currently using a very minimal setup which I can also show)
Hi!! I love your videos and this painting. Because of your videos, I have actually started to go plein air painting and not worry so much about others judging. I’m struggling to figure out to simplify things especially with nature. Do you have any tips?
That's awesome! That is a common request, I literally just did a patreon video about that on Tuesday. But quick advice: squint! It reduces all the detail in front of you to basic shapes/values.
Sarah, this was really wonderful. Could I ask a question. Have you ever applied a gouache background before using the watercolour on top. (I was always under the understanding that it’s to difficult to achieve this as the gouache underneath can be reactivated.) However, I was encouraged to give this a try today and it was a disaster. Just interested in your take on this as I have always worked watercolour to gouache. I respect your viewpoint which is why I watched this video and am now asking you this question. Thank you for this again, it was very lovely.
It doesn’t make sense to paint with watercolor over gouache. Maybe the person who told you to do it has a specific reason or technique they like, but as a whole process, no, i would never do that.

Wow, thank you! That's so kind of you
Wow, spring what a concept. Oh to see green again!
Right?!
Amazing painting!!!!!
Thanks Sarah!

I prefer to plein air painting than in the studio. Its amazing . ❤️❤️.
Your painting also beautiful . Great video ❤️
Me too! It's more difficult, but more enjoyable at the same time
Just lovely, thank you 💕
Glad you enjoyed it

But i love so much what you do. I do love your confort zone !
Haha thank you! The goal is to make new things part of my comfort zone :)

I'm so lucky!
What a beautiful trailer/intro!
Thank you! I've been working on "perfecting it" haha

You are so welcome!
Beautiful Plein Air painting ✅
Well said my friend! Enjoyed your wonderful video!!
Thank you for joining me 😄
Beautiful video and painting class! It is always so good to see your plein air paintings! Thanks for sharing!
"I've got my GoPro and backpack...". Partner, carrying those things.... "you do?!" ;-)
LOL! He INSISTS on carrying everything all the time. I gave up arguing.
Another beautiful piece of art and great commentary. Looking forward to "traveling" with you in the upcoming plein air season.
Looking forward to the “mountain goodness” in the Cairngorms!
I was out too for the first time this year Sarah. The river is still frozen, but it was supposed to get up to 10 Celsius today...so we should see water soon.
Yay! It's been warmer day by day here and I've been able to get out more. Loving it! This will be a very heavy plein air year :D
Gorgeous painting!
It’s vers Nice!

I think that session was 30-40 minutes because we were chatting at times, but didn't want to stay too long because it was cold
Beautiful painting. I recently read a book about the Cairngorms (The Living Mountain). Can't wait to see them through your eyes.
I've been dying to explore them since we moved here a year ago (right before lockdown hit)!

Thank you for showing your backpack with go pro attached! Can you show your entire filming plain air setup?

@@SarahBurnsStudio Thank you, I appreciate you letting me know. I was quite disappointed with my efforts on the painting afterwards.
I would like to know what type of tape you used for the paper
3M blue painters tape
