    it's so amazing to see how far you've come. this video is so old and I've been with you for a few years. no matter where I am in life, 10th grade, A levels, uni... you're helpful every step of the day

    You won't believe that I also reached to your method exactly.
    Honestly, I failed twice in medical studies due to 2 reasons.
    1) Mentally, I can't understand the paragraph at the first time reading!, that sounds crazy but the solution which I used to figure out is to increase my English academic language more higher.
    2) Creating notes, I'm totally frustrated cause I wasn't being able to create intelligent notes as you did, I wish I watched you video since the beginning of the year.
    Lastly, I started to follow you 1 hour ago haha cause your channel appeared suddenly on my general background.
    Thanks for the nice and genuine support and assistance to students and wish you the best in your life.

      I totally feel you my friend. I struggle with exactly the same issues as you - number 1 was particularly troublesome for me. That's when I discovered that actively reading solved the problem. :) I am really happy to meet you and I hope that you will find my videos useful. If you have any suggestions for future topics please let me know. ^_^ Wishing you a lovey day! 💕💕

    Hey! I am SO sorry for the late reply. I'm still trying to figure UA-cam out. :-P
    To answer your questions:
    - Try not to condense a paragraph into a single sentence. Some have more things to say than others. Sometimes a really big paragraph can turn into 4-5 phrases and another one you can just completely skip it if it says nothing important. -The colors are really up to you. Have fun with it. I usually use red for my title and green for subtitles. :)

    That was absolutely fantastic. Best method I have ever seen on UA-cam. My suggestion is to make use of mind maps, so your summaries get even more attractive (by being more artistic) and meaningful (by showing relationships between topics not clearly seen in a hierarchical structure). You can either mindmap everything as a big summary or use it inside your outlines to illustrate ideas.

    • @AnaMascara

    Big thanks to you, Anna ^_^ it is great method and thank you again! I'll try to use them :) When I started watching your videos, I started to use your methods, despite I'm still in highschool. First one is to rewrite my class notes to clean ones by using color coding with active reading methods in the same day or after going through all chapter. Second one is to write important things which teachers recommend in word and print it (for example, chapter sumarry in history. Answer the most important questions in file or add yours for the certain century, print and highlit with colors the most important stuff) and save them for future. It saves a lot of time for future and brains seek for answers + you get less bored, since studying became more fun even having ADD (which improved my grades), when I read everything in color or paintings :) You deserve more subscribers, since your chanell is very helpful, interesting and the majority of them are described by your experience.

    just one question... how do you condense the material to find the key points? I find myself writing too many notes on basically everything it says in the book. How do you pick out the key points?

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  10 років тому +31

      susim2428 this honestly depends on your class. I had a teacher that wanted us to know every-single-silly-unnecessary detail -_- So I felt the same as you...I had to practically copy the entire book. But this is a rare case. I suggest looking for new words (like if you would ask your friend hey..do you know what HPD is? And if their answer is a blank stare then BINGO that word you should know.) or big examples (that go on for a few paragraphs) - big theories or lists (like symptoms of schizophrenia for example). I hope this helps. But for sure I will be doing an entire video where I actually show you how I do the 3rd method. Like I will do it - for real on a chapter I actually have to read this semester. I think it will help people WAYYY more than me trying to explain it all in writing :-P I wish you the best of luck! And again, I hope I answered your question..even a tiny bit ^_^ xox

    Im in my second year of software engineering, and I employ a mixture of methods two and three; however I spend a great deal of time annotation the sections I read in a form where I understand them. Another method I employ is doing audio recording on my phone by summarizing, or reading out loud the certain sections , so I can listen to them during car rides to school, or when I have down time.. Have you ever done that ? I currently have a 3.9 and taking 18 credits at the moment , but I'm trying to employ new methods because I feel like I'm over study. Oh yeah, and your third method is so very true ., I have condense 1000 page text book into 15 % +/- 5 pages or notes ... Still takes a lot of time , but better than highlighting the book. I've never done that in my life .

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  9 років тому

      Silver Reyes wow software engineering must be intense! How do you like it? I've never tried your method but it's honestly brilliant! Hi! Thank you so much for this video. The third method is the one I liked the most, I wanted to ask you a few questions about it: Do you try to condense a paragraph into a single sentence, in order to turn, for example, a five-paragraph chapter into a five-sentence chapter? Which criteria do you apply when choosing colors? Do you use the same colors for every subject? Thanks and keep up the good work!

I have been attempting to use the summarizing in the margin method and was curious how long it typically took get through a couple of pages. It is taking me almost an hour to get through 2 pages. HI, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm 4 lectures in 1st year biomedicine and I was getting lost and confused. So now I will start using your method. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how I can back track to make my treasure notebook :) time is short with so much reading, I'm panicking a little and would be grateful for your suggestions :) thanks!

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  9 років тому

      butterflizoo Wow, sounds like you've picked quite a challenging discipline. How awesome! I know med and bio are pretty confusing and difficult topics, what I would suggest is to use a lot of images and sketches to be able to situate all the key terms you will need to know for the exams. I'm very visuals so when I studied Bio that's what I did and it personally helped me a lot. Text can appear heavy and confusing, and so I suggest cleaning it up a bit my making pictures, lists or anything to make the material easier for you to remember and visualize. I hope this was helpful. Good luck with your studies!!! You can do it! xox

    Please is it possible that you could do a video of how to paraphrase a paragraph in the textbook. Or if you already have a video doing that could you mention it? By the way, I love your videos they are most helpful to me because I can relate to you so much based on how you study, the program you are studying, and how you are passionate about school. Thank you so much!

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  8 років тому +1

      I believe I did mention this in a few videos but I should really do a more in-depth vid focusing on the topic. So thank you so much for suggesting it ^_^ I am also very happy to hear that we share a passion for learning :D What are you studying?

    • @illegallyanxious6903
      @illegallyanxious6903 8 років тому

      Hello, thank you for getting back to me I really appreciate it ^_^. I'm studying psychology too. I have friends here that are all doing psychology and they are very happy that there is someone who is going against some common stereotypes such as, if you are smart or "geeky" (no offence) you are boring, or if you are beautiful you are not very smart. Thank you so much once again I know I'm saying thank you so much but its for a good reason. You are a huge inspiration to me to work extra hard in my studies. Keep up the good work, I'll continue to support your channel. Thank you so much and stay blessed!

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  8 років тому +1

      haha NO offence taken. That is exactly the stereotypes I am trying to break. I want to show that smart can be edgy, sexy, cool, interesting, creative, beautiful and strong. And that everyone can get high grades, whether you are a cheerleader, a gamer, a goth or a supermodel :) And I am glad to see that it is translating well in my videos! *happy dance* Thank you so so much for watching my videos and for taking the time out of your (I'm sure) busy day to write me a comment. And a lovely one at that!! ^_^ 💕💕💕 Wishing you and your friends the best of luck! Psychology is such an awesome field.

  • @1243mrreaper
    @1243mrreaper 8 років тому

    So summarizing each paragraph helped you get better grades? Im going to try it for microbiology because my teacher emphasizes the use of our textbooks. Thanks

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  8 років тому +1

      +Tartaglia For that class indeed it helped me out a LOT. But it is a very excessive and time-consuming method..I use it only when the material is very heavy and hard to understand. So yep...microbiology sounds like it fits in that category :-P Good luck and let me know how it goes :)

    Hey Ana, can you please tell me what evidences we have for and against studying on a mobile or tablet vs a real books. I need to study a VERY BULKY medicine textbook which just SCARES me to DEATH when I look at the hard copy. Also its a little high on the price, so I did not buy it. Although I wad able to download a free soft copy. But now I am afraid that reading on the tablet might affect my performance .!!

    I also study from textbook and underline it..but I write the important notes of that page on a paper and paste it on the book itself..because sometimes important illustrations are there in the book & it becomes difficult if we make notes in a separate copy... what do u think?

    • @AnaMascara
      @AnaMascara  8 років тому

      +Shailesh Kala usually when a book spends a lot of time explaining or elaborating on a theory/key word/important figure that means you should probably index it for the exam. If there are no headings, go with the chunks of text..I hope this helps :)

    The third one is my favorite, too! By the way, this awesome video was posted the day after my 13th birthday. :) Thanks a lot for sharing. Also, could you please share with us the percentage you got when you start using the third method? Cause I'm going to use the third method in my new semester. You said you got 54% on an exam when you use the first method of underlining and 96% on an exam when you use the second method of summarizing every paragraph. And, is summarizing the text into the notebook in third method somehow similar to explaining to yourself as if you're a teacher in Feynman technique? Thanks again!
