The simple trick is: the more u study the more it becomes easy for u to learn. A time will come when u will be reading like newspaper and u will be getting every point. Try it. 😊
I have tried all the methods. One advantage of first method is that when u go back to that chapter after some time, the side notes / summaries makes it soo much easier and fast..
You are probably right. I had a good memory in school age, but I am struggling with memory in my professional career for the last few years. Now I realize that I used to write and draw a lot and rehearse write in that age, which is replaced by laptop and smartphone apps and news distractions. I am hardly writing anything which I struggle to remember now a days. I have tried to memorize with pics or passive audio listening but that is making the matters worse. Thanks for redirecting me to the roots of my problem.
I have found that I'm the same. Still in school, but with so much technology being integrated, we start making physical notes less. Not to mention that the excessive use cellphones actually reduces your ability to concentrate and memorize.
As a teacher it's sad to see some people commenting that they haven't lesrned these basic study techniques in school. I have talked many times about techniques like these, but students aren't always ready to put in the effort and time to actually learn.
Ummmm. Don't forget teachers around the world are different. So not everyone does what you think. My teachers just tell us to read but don't explain this active memory things. They just tell us to study it. We want to put the effort which is why we go looking for these vids because we need the help.
I teach a Home School class in collage prep. for psychology. I have been employing your videos to instruct my students in methods of note taking and active reading. Thank you so much. You make my job much more effective and my students more prepared for their collage experience. Again, thank you.
Dev, It is even more interesting to me that there have been, to date, 68 thumbs up to this comment and you are the only one who has pointed out my error. You are absolutely correct in pointing out the error. But, why did more people not make similar moments? Calling on my experience with such comment posts, most people are not just being nice. Could it be that we are more familiar with the word college pronounced phonetically "call-age" than we are with the word spelled collage yet pronounced "cal-aj"? If this is the case, then our minds accept this construct as being correct. What do you think.
yesterday i had to do last minute studying for my exam, however it was a bit too much to remember the entire textbook in one day :(( so i found your video and decided to do the first 2 methods, and shockingly it really helped me a lot!! i know i should have studied earlier though.. but thank you so much for making this video and telling us these methods! i'm really grateful that i found your video, my exam went better than i had expected, all thanks to this video :") 💗💗
This is super important for me haha. I've been actively reading and remembering my material by making out-of-this world images in my head of mnemonics I make and testing myself multiple times haha. Who said studying can't be fun? It's kinda like playing thinking games with yourself
Ana, do you have any suggestions and study tips for those in med school? The amount of material we go through is ridiculously large and it’s different from a regular science textbook. There are multiple guidelines, treatments, symptoms, etc to remember. And the time we have is extremely limited. What study techniques would you recommend in this case? 😉
Check out previous question papers...that way u will know what's needed...focus first on those topics or diseases... Make charts and diagrams especially use the charts in Davidson and Harrison. Once you look through old ques u'll know what to read and what to skip. Learn the most important names of criteria, other structures etc used to identify dx. Review a loooot! Repeat .
You can use memory methods to remember information...Try books by Harry Lorayne like "How to Develop a Super Power memory"... You can a pdf version for free...Just google it....Hope this helps.
this is fantastic, thank you! I was struggling so much to read long textbook chapters & now I am more confident about how to go about active reading and actually learning from what I'm reading. thank you ana!
Hi Ana! Watching in 2018. ☺ I use all three methods, mostly read/summary and memory boost, depending on the nature of what I'm trying to remember. I've noticed that certain things work for me when reading: 1. Having a teacher-student session with myself, where I ask the questions and explain the answers to myself. 2. Making mental images and for economics or finance materials, forming an "equation" out of a worded paragraph. These methods work really well to the extent that I can remember even the layout of the pages I saw those information when I'm in an exam. Thanks Ana! I need to get back into active reading.
You are such a lifesaver.. I used to watch your videos three years back and I'm so glad I rediscovered you... I hope you are able to realize your dreams.. May they come true.
Oh my goodness! You are awesome! I always used this methods, but never knew they had names! And now I can boost my own way to study combining them! Tnx so much for this video, helped a lot!
Great vid! If you're taking a class, the best thing you can ever do is read the material before the lecture so that you come into the lecture with questions and misunderstandings. Then the lecture itself or the professor can easily clarify the misunderstanding. You likely won't have to study for any exam and you definitely won't be cramming. Also stand up when you read, it's more engaging.
So.... Fortunately, if Psychology doesn't work out--- or you need a little side hustle for some extra dough, you can do hand modeling!!! Those are Palmolive hands, if I remember the commercials correctly!!! I'm envious of your great nails.... as I pick at mine in anxiety realizing my notes suck! Good information! Keep up the good work!
Legit, I used the 2nd method for my anatomy and physiology class because we needed to remember SOO many processes. I just rewrote it until I remembered it completely. I got full points on those parts of the test. I really like all of your methods. They do work because I have used them myself.
I just cannot thank you enough. I just tried the memory boost method and it did wonders. You are a genius. I hope these tips reach everyone who needs them. ❤️❤️
O my God, Ana! I found your channel today. I've already seen about 5 videos. I loved all of them and this one is a gem. Your humor is great and so are your videos. ♥♥♥
Messy handwriting is a result of faster brain activity.so it does make sense why writing something imperfectly helps to focus on learning and recalling datas. When brain isn't so engaged to do clean handwriting,it is strongly active in receiving information into mind and memory cell.best method ever. I always used to study like this both regular and before exams.now finally someone mentioned it as an effective method of learning. This video is effectively educative.
I stop studying just to tell you thiss.. This is so helpful! I have been trying the 2nd method for weeks, and i remember and understand things better😭 Final in march..hoping with this it helps me🙇
OMGEEEEEEE!!!!! You are my life saver!!!! I can already tell that using your study techniques, I will be able to pass any test/exam that comes my way!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!! I'm so glad that I found you!!!!!!
Thank you Anna, going back to Uni to do masters in 2 weeks and I needed a refreshers of your study tips! I used to watch them when I was doing undergrad and they’re all very helpful!
It's my lovely method,,when I started learning my first language, I read and analyse each speech,,wrote the keys words, with more details, and synonyms..somtimes with drawing..my level it's raising fastly. Thank's for remembre me this method
Personally, I first highlight all the key words then I rephrase each paragraph in my own words and reformulate the sentences Making sure I include all the highlighted information so that I wouldn't forget any. it helps to engage with the text and understand it, by using this method you will literally make that lesson yours by giving it your print. Your brain will grasp the information easily this way as it will take it to be familiar rather than foreign. I do this to each lesson by rewriting a new version of it on paper until I end up with a bunch of papers.
You are that best teacher, who has a unique & funny way of teaching , who's always nice to her students , everyone likes her & few of them have a crush on her like me !You are soo adorable Ana....❤️

Very important to not just be mindlessly consuming info. Instead actively engage and actively think about what your reading. Great video! Any suggestions for listening to audio books while you drive or exercise?
I really appreciate the first method (so far… since I’m still watching) I like the idea of using a separate paper the way you did and not worry about the notes looking pretty. That can throw me off. Then I can just rewrite the notes neater and that way I’m repeating the information and engaging with it again. I will give it a shot.
Aww yey! If you would like to know more on the topic of active reading I did a video recently on 10 different techniques: ua-cam.com/video/5j8H3F8EMNI/v-deo.html 😊 💖🌸

I've been doing all three methods since I was little. The RS and MB method works the best for me. I use RS method for classes with a ton of reading but i get tired of reading eventually. Your tip on summarizing a short part of a paragraph was new to me so i'll keep that in mind. :D I use MB for language class and math class a lot - its especially helpful 10 mins before a math test. ha ha I never used it on other classes so I'll use it next time. Thank you for this video!!!
where were you when i was still in university... i struggled terribly because i had terrible studying techniques.. now im inspired with new confidence to go finish my masters and lots more. thank you
Thank you Ana!!! I just re watched your videos. I'm so glad I can incorporate theese methods. I want to beat procrastination and be able to success at Medical School
To be honest, the same thing happens to me if I read at my desk. Have you tried reading somewhere else? Like on your bed or on a sofa? It helped me out a LOT...it's weird..but try it out.
Try the 'pomodoro' method to tackle this issue and also adequate sleep before you study. Don't start studying immediately after consuming a heavy meal rather take a small nap ( 70-90 minutes ) if you feel sleepy after eating a meal.
Read summary method did a magic for me in my post-graduation entrance exam alhamdulillah. I only could glance at those keywords from those wholesome gigantic textbooks the night before exam.lt really really worked. Thanks a lot @Ana Mascara
For a few blocks in my last semester i've been writing all my notes on my laptop but now i think i should try writing it all down it might work better. Thank you for the advice!
I just started gradschool yesterday. It's all online but and I started the reading for one class last week and still have a lot of damn reading left. Thank you for this.
omg where were you when I was in college?😂 I didn't know UA-cam had how to study videos you're awesome!! p.s. I have no idea how this popped in my newsfeed but I'm glad it did
O my god! Oh my god! I been out of school 5 yrs and I was forgetting how to write notes to comprehend what I'm reading. I now you just remember me that those exact things are the same things I used to do to study. Thank you so much. Is not easy going back to school after 5 yrs.
The drawing of animals to memorize what just studied thrilled me to another level!! Most of the others I already knew and tried but this was amazing one!
Great effort. Can you be more descriptive on all three methods. I'm sooooooooooo motivated by ur video that I have decided to make a 2 hr presentation on active reading to help members of my Research Deptt help read Faster. My department has to sift through a lot...This would go a long way in improving the Reading.
really helpful video, I usually read 5 to 6 times before I understand something so I saved tons of time! Btw what is that song in your intro? 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Thank you so much girl! Unfortunately since this is a pretty old video I don't remember the name of the song but it WAS in the UA-cam library. If I find it I will let you know. :) Oh and if you like the topic of active reading, I recently made a more updated version of it here ua-cam.com/video/5j8H3F8EMNI/v-deo.html I thought maybe you would like it. 💕💕💕 Thank you for the support!! ^__^

All the other youtubers are posers and wannabes. They usually spend the majority of the video talking about other crap thats not relevant.

Yeah...10 readings is equal to 1 writing...my professor use to say ....☺️
Smart professor 😊
Hajera Yousra
My grandpa used to say that
Ana Mascara can u kindly tell me the tittle and the writer of that book u used as an example?
Your professor is correct
Hajera Yousra I noticed that students who rewrite their info get high grades while the ones who just read don't do that well :)
I started using the Read and Summarise Method. I swear by it now. It's definitely better than rote memorization.
Hi Army
I'm annoyed that they don't teach these at school
Yeah, they don't
Cuz they want you to fail
No they don't want u to fail but make think about these
Or that they are unaware of such methods.

You know the education system is screwed up when you learn more from UA-cam than actual school
Ya, UA-cam is best as compared to school.
With my experience, my school is nothing in front of UA-cam.
This is the reality.
Facts. Our education system (U.S. wise) is extremely outdated. We are failing to implement new learning styles and the length of school days.

I use all three methods, mostly read/summary and memory boost, depending on the nature of what I'm trying to remember. I've noticed that certain things work for me when reading:
