Well damn..... I had to push as hard as I could to get it a couple more inches out while I ran the motor. Then I went out and lubed the little I could get to. Then pulled it back in. Pushed like hell again as I ran the motor- got a little further out and I lubed it again. Did that a couple times then the motors synced up and now it works like it always did. Truth be told I stopped lubricating about a year ago because I heard the manufacturer said not to lube this brand- well I'm gonna listen to the results. Thanks man!!! Saved my first trip and probably a few hundred to a thousand dollars on a mobile mechanic

Thank you for your videos I've learned a lot about my new RV.. I did have a problem with my slide from not going out even.. now they the dealer said to never lube the slide . But it makes sense putting a Teflon spray on it to make it easier on the system... Being a mechanic I know about friction and the problem it causes... I'm a fan of your video's.

My Schwintek slide has been noisy and giving me grief for 3 years and simply lubricating the rails as Darren shows in this video completely cured the problem. Much quieter and synched up first try! Amazing!! Thanks Darren!

You are my hero! My wife an I are from the Chicago area. On vacation now, we traveled from Gettysburg PA to Philadelphia this morning with a slide open about 4 inches because it would not retract completely. The slide seemed to catch on one side during retraction and kind of twisted the room until the other side "amped out". Lubed the slide mechanism as you suggested and the problem disappeared immediately!!! Did I mention that you are my hero? ;) Thanks for your expertise!!!!

Your videos are especially helpful. I learned more about how my trailer's Dometic / Suburban / Schwintek / electrical systems work from YOU than any other videos I've watch or manuals I've read. My greatest fear when travelling with our trailer is having slideout problems. I'm headed out to my trailer right now to lubricate the Schwintek tracks !!

Wow!! I learned something today!! Let the motors amp out I have never done that before, I was always anticipating the end of the track. Not any more and out comes the can of lubricant, the first thing I will do when the cover comes off the trlr is to lube my tracks because my slide squeals like hell. Thanks for the information.

We were just ready to pull out of our driveway and tried bringing in our slide out and it was trying to go in on one side and not the other. We did what he said to do. Wow it worked great! We didn't know to keep pushing the button after it was in or out and we lubed the slides. Thank you so much!!! We were able to go after all!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I returned from a trip yesterday and my bedroom slide wouldn't go back out. It was completely twisted. I tried the re-timing method, I tried the "override method" and nothing was working. I actually already had a can of RV Slide lube sitting around but I didn't think to try it. This video helped me learn where to lube and how the slide actually moves. I was finally able to work it back and forth and get my slide out all the way. I then resynced the motors and it's working like new again! (For now, haha)

I had exactly the issue you describe, Darren. One side got stuck, and overall, the slide seemed to work much harder than in the beginning, but no error messages on the slide controller board. I must confess that I did boondock with the slide out during several sandstorms in Utah, before the resistance started. I was able to get the slide out and in when I repeatedly pressed the button to start the process, but it didn't feel good at all, and I just left it in until I got home. Anyways, I blew out the slide tracks with compressed air, but still had the slide movement resistance. I then bought the CRC Lube you recommended and greased the parts of the tracks and the roller you indicated - on all four tracks. It immediately worked and the slide slips out and in like new. I tried at least 20 times since lubing it, and it never hesitated to work. Thanks for making this video, Darren, and for sharing your knowledge!

I do the exact same thing! I clean with WD-40, let dry throughly, then lube the shoe track, (not the teeth), dibs, and rollers with Bo-Shield T-9. It has PFE technology and leaves behind a waxy film. I support your position Darren. Lubricate as environment calls for. Check periodically.

THANK YOU!!! Winnebago user here! This was only our second outing in our camper and your video allowed us to get our setup operational again! I had to stop our slide briefly to keep an object from getting trapped in the movement. Upon doing so it became out of sync and would only move in and out a couple of inches. Fortunately I looked up info before getting too excited and found your suggestion! Also fortunate that I had a can of very good spray lubricant in my truck! I would shake your hand if I could Sir!! VERY Thankful!!!

I agree with you - had a brand new Grand Design Imagine 2400BH with the Schwintek on a dinette and refrigerator slide seize up and wouldn't open. Got a warranty claim in and the service tech told me to use the CRC with PTFE and it worked well enough until I got everything replaced. Will keep a can in my tool bag in the future. Grand Design now puts a rack & pinion slide on the Imagine 2400 starting this year (2023 model). Mine's a 2022. Go figure.

Yep--we've debated the lubrication topic at length on GD's technical forum. I've taken Lippert's training class (and I've been to the institute in Elkhart) so for quite awhile I parroted the Lippert guidance. Over time, based on the input of others and practical experience on my own trailer, I've changed my mind. The lubricant you are using is also my "go to" for almost everything on the trailer. Good stuff.

I am on a trip right now experiencing this problem. Intuitively, my thinking was that , lubrication would cause slippage. So seeing this now as more of drawer closure versus a gear track, I understand lubricating the bearing surfaces. Also, no one described how the electric controls are designed. So the synchronization makes perfect sense relative to alignment and added friction drawing more current. Will experiment when home, but thank you for the enlightenment.

I also lubricate the channels on the track with the same product. Never had a problem. But do understand that the lubricant will attract dirt. Was in Arizona desert during a sand storm. The sand and dust collected in the channels. So clean the channels frequently and before pushing the retract button when in dusty conditions.

Just had this exact problem in my bedroom slide with a brand new Keystone Avalanche fifth wheel we just purchased, will try that tomorrow.
And I’m also guilty of releasing the switch once I think is in or out all the way, thinking I’m going to blow a fuse or strip a gear. The manufacturer states not to grease probably because grease holds dirt and sand causing premature wear in the geared section, exactly where you said not to Lube, great advice thanks a lot.
Update next day, lubed the 4 tracks and held the switch counting to 3, once it was in all the way and at the out positions as you stated, tried 3 times and works great so far. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the advise to use the controller to amp out to keep the motors in properly in sync, indeed! The lippert recommendation on our version of the same slideout as on the one on the Jayco oddly enough is to always drive with powered on because the system is designed to prevent the slide from moving if powered on. At least in the lippert slideout manual that came with a 2016 on a Winnie Drop 1780 with a kitchen slideout.

Had a Schwintek slide on the previous TT.
It worked as per specs ONCE. Then for the next 4 years the controler was always showing a Sync error. Was able to in & out perfectly with the emergency mode on the controler.
Did change the controler, motor & cable and tried every trick documented that I could find.
Up to when upon the dealer tech inspection on the exchange for a new Jayco.
When the tech saw the issue he said " Yes happens all the time, the motor connector is junk, we do remove the connector & solder the wires re-sync & problem fixed"
    Gosh!
Ps the original controller pc board was missing the surface mounted switch to enable the emergency mode, called LCI and support sais "It was impossible that can happened on their boards" so no support & no hope for exchange, had to purchase my own new controler.
So too badbut I do not like Lippert too much since then.

It definitely works easier lubed. I agree, the lube you use is critical. It is easy to slop oil on something, you just don't want to create a dirt and grit magnet. I worked in industry, to lube or not is not an uncommon argument on some equipment.

Excellent explanation of what to do and what not to do. Do you have any videos showing how to replace the bearing block?

  • @davidmcgee2126
    @davidmcgee2126 Рік тому +1

So Lippert had a bunch of schwintecs go out with plastic glides. Causing this same issue. Typically one side is worse than the other and the rooms get out of sync and eventually jam and don’t move. They have a repair kit for it. Tracks and bearing blocks
We just had a unit in for something unrelated and the room motor popped out. After taking it apart we found the shaft above the clip was 1/8 too long so the motor would not set down in block it was held in only by the screw that is supposed to keep it from lifting up. Apparently it was worked on by our dealership at another location. The owner said it had not been working right
Rooms are built out of tolerance sometimes too and eventually the binding wears the motors out
So if your RV is new take it to the dealership and have it looked at. These rooms will work just fine and then bind up and no amount of lube will fix them
If it’s an older unit. Lubing(cleaning) the groove and wheels can help. If the motors are worn out, they might need replaced
Have to check the floor too. Water damage and the rollers sink and now the weight is on the tracks not the rollers,or swell and push up
It’s a light system. Not much tolerance for being out of measurement
And of course if it’s out of time (top and bottom not even distance from wall) you have to disassemble and retime Chances are if out of time you will need a repair kit as the track or gear are chewed up.

  • @BigRigRV
    @BigRigRV 11 місяців тому

For some reason I was under the impression once the room was out or in I had to release the slide control once the motors started to bog in concern I would ruin the motors. I see that I was wrong. Glad I watched this even though I have racks.

I ran across your video and told wife looks it the man who came to us when we were returning from Alaska. We had a Vanleigh/Vilano. We were the Songers by the way from NC. We have never forgot your great hospitality and your love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hello, I came across this video while trying to find one to help me fix my small bedroom slide out. I have an 07 Dutchmen Tundra 27FK. My big hydraulic living room slide out works perfect but my smaller bedroom one has tipped to one side a couple of inches and when I have to put it out it’s scraping on the bottom and tearing the material on the bottom. Can you please help me figure out why it’s tipped to one side. It’s now leaning to the right. You are so knowledgeable on these trailer issues and your video’s are so easy to understand. Thank you for making them for us. ❤

I will definately be trying this, I had issues with my slide this past week at a resort in Nashville, had a tech to come out and he said it may be the motors...but after watching this I have hope that it may not be. Hopefully this will work...he did say it was giving an fault/error code of 5 excessive current??

I stumbled upon this video on our last trip out because our slide wasn’t extending properly. I didn’t have the CRC lune with me, but I did have some LPS greaseless lube on hand and sprayed that on the rails and after retracting and extending the slide a few times the slide started working flawlessly. Anyway I have since ordered the CRC lube. In your opinion will the LPS cause harm to the the rails, and should I try to use some type of cleaner on the rails before spraying the CRC on them? Thank you for any and all input.

The other issue that happens is a cracked magnet on one of the motors. Then the computer can't count the revolutions correctly via hall effect and times out. It will still spin in time periodically, making you think the lube has helped.
You can open the motor carefully and use a some thin plastic cut into a disc and laminate it to the cracked magnet with some epoxy. Works good as new. I've done this as a field repair on a reflection 317 I rebuilt.
Look into this if you have this issue.

Thanks, I really appreciate your videos. I have actually been lubricating that part even if Lippert said not to, it made the whole system work much better. Since I started doing it the slide goes in and out without any of the knocking sounds it was making even when new. The two motors are perfectly synchronized and I always wait three seconds or more both on opening and closing. Any case I have a small problem which I don’t know how to fix: my slide is not that big, about eight feet or so, but when I close it one side is very close to the wall while the other is about half inch out. Practically, the good side squeezes the rubber gasket, the other barely touches it.
Looks like I would need to “turn” one motor a tiny bit more in order to complete the closing, but I don’t know if it’s even possible… I would really appreciate your opinion…

Thanks much for the good info. The title of this video is that the slide goes out 2 inches and one motor stops. This is happening to me. I wish you would have given some info with to resolve that issue.

Thanks - learned a lot about my slides thanks to your videos! Quick question - what’s the easiest way to access under the slide? Can’t be done from the outside? I use a thin piece of wood on the inside to try to remove items that get under but I fear there are items keeping my slide from completely closing and don’t know the best way to check.

I have a 2023 reflection 280rs, with the token schwintec slide on the kitchen Fridge, stove etc. as a snowbird. Parked for several months, should I lube the guides n run the slide in n out a few times. Once a month or once every couple of months. Same with the living room slide. (It’s the roller style or screw Jack whatever the proper name is for that slide??). Thx. 😊

Do you have any experience with power gear slide out drives. I have a 2008 Winnebago outlook that the living room slide, will mostly stop part way out (not in) and not every time. And sometimes not at all until I manually give it a crank.
    Any suggestions.
And I love Salt Creek, I’m one of those guys from across the water

What about if the gears are jumping teeth when it reaches either end of travel before the controller amps out. Can you adjust the sensitivity on the controller? 2021 Tiffin Allegro with very little use has this issue. Thanks.
