I use Canopy so I appreciated your insight. Their customer service is improving but not always helpful. There were a lot of times I would ask for help and got the same response "I don't know the answer." That was it. Their first webinar showed the automation was a big step in the right direction. They demo'd the product and showed some tips. I was still left hanging as to who I was supposed to ask for help. But they are making some strides. Thanks for this video today!!!!

I've been using Canopy Tax since 10/30/2018. It's definitely revolutionized the way I approach problems and I appreciate growing with them. The new automation features you mentioned are what finally made me switch from a legacy account to a new account. I wasn't able to use some of their new release features unless I switched the type of account and gave up my legacy billing deal. So I did and they did and now I'm more efficient and effective with my client base. Thanks for putting this together. Lots of good insight to popular and new practice management platforms.

I’ve used Karbon as a bookkeeper for a small firm. I liked the email integration. But it was a bit much for me honestly. Maybe a learning curve lol
My firm has been using Ultra Tax (SAAS) and Onvio for the last 5 years. We are currently moving to Proconnect and TaxDome. Why? The customer service has be very subpar for the last few years with Ultra Tax. The last 2 years during peak week, Ultra Tax stopped working all together. There are times during the day, every day, some of my staff can not access Onvio to do their work. This is just a few issues I have had with this product.
TaxDome has been a game changer. You can lock documents with an invoice. Yes, the client can not view the docs until the invoice is paid. E-signatures are included in the subscription. This is extra in Onvio. Syncs clients emails in their portal. There is a chat feature. Online training. Oh, and the price. The savings from moving from Onvio to TaxDome is significant.
Taxdome has an additional charge for e-signatures too. If you have complex, multi-state returns, you'll be going back to Ultratax as we just switched from Proconnect but kept Taxdome. We had our system go down twice during tax season as well as losing a day's worth of work due to a corrupted file.
Way to go, Onvio!

Loved this since I'm in the process of evaluating and you found some I have not come across yet. The Onvio pitch was very strange and my TR experience has been pretty bad up to this point, so thanks, but no. I was wondering what exactly a "small to medium" sized firm is. The most mature products are a struggle because they are generally not the most up to date or responsive, yet I worry that a new entrant like Elephant might not make it. And as you said, onboarding is PAINFUL.
Did Taxdome not accept your invitation? Used them for 3 year was curious to hear the Guru's thoughts on them?
I know you posted this a year ago, but I think I saw on his website that he's got a Taxdome Demo scheduled for May 21

Sorry if I am missing a joke ('Blank Olives'?) with Blake Oliver...? I think I first heard you on the cloud accounting podcast. I signed on for JetPack Workflow last year but haven't fully implemented yet. It would help to see a good old fashioned grid with a list of features going down and each product in columns so I can pick the ones I want to explore further. Thanks for the vid.

Legacy system user here - and we are in the process of switching to cloud based. It’s god awful. If I hear “but the old system does it this way” - the old system is literally 30 years old and only “works” because we made it work.
I often wonder if “do it all” or “do a few things very well” is the way to go with software.
We’re still struggling in choosing, can you do part 2 and more in depth and more firms pleaseeee!
