@@itsjoel In my 2003 Z3 3.0i I have primary silencer aka resonator and rear muffler with center muffler. So in total 3. Did you have mid pipes and center muffler still and only back box deleted?
I don’t wanna be that guy, straight piping is no cats no boxes. But, it does sound good though. Should get louder over the next few weeks as the carbon builds up in the new piping
It doesn't get louder, it gets ever so slightly quieter and less pops as the fueling adjusts. It still pops a lot and still too much drone for me, I put a box in but it still drones :/ going up any slight incline or hill is annoying imo
Richard Dodd i fully straight piped my r32 and it was amazing on full throttle. Screamed on second cam. I have videos of it on my channel. It did get louder and the pops were less frequent but louder, flames also got a lot bigger aswell due to the unburnt fuel in the piping. But my god was it annoying up hills and just pottering around on cruise control. I could forgive it though for the noises it made
CATALYTIC AUTOSPORT may be on the r32 it's different but on z4 3.0 with cats in place it gets slightly quieter but not worth the drone, almost to the point passenger stops talking, roof up or down it's the same. Mine pops and bangs at any revs if I slightly let of the throttle, it does sound good though.
Hi Joel, This is my first posting to your channel. I finally did it - after prompting from you - my z4 exhaust is now straight through. Amazing, amazing, amazing. I'm now reliving my teenage years when I put a larger exhaust on my Hillman Imp in Scotland. I have finally settled in Northland, New Zealand after 40 years. Now in my 2006 Z4, I have thousands of miles to discover "World class scenery all within one small Country". Cheers, John
Got mine done last week, sounds awesome now, backfires like hell the best £100 I've spent matey, having the front box replaced for a less restrictive bespoke stainless one on Tuesday £120. Buzz the guy at a garage fabricated them from scratch.....I'll keep ya informed..
I deleted my backbox (they call them mufflers in the U.S.) several years ago. What you are hearing now as to sound will not increase. My Z4 is an auto and the level of noise it makes on a highway actually quiets down a bit after the car is warmed up. But when I engage the steptronic manual it sounds just like yours. As for the drop in gas mileage, it is because you tend to keep accelerating a bit longer to enjoy the sound being produced. My first, least expensive, and most enjoyable Z4 mod!
It's a relatively cheap modification. About $100 to do in the U.S. and it is reversible. If you don't like it then replace the muffler and try again later with a custom exhaust system.
yep.... sounds awesome,,,, definitely gonna be one of my upgrades ,,, & for those who complain about the sound,,, thats why we take that crap off,, more sound,,,MORE BETTER !!

Sounds awesome Joel. Have you ever been stuck on for having an altered exhaust system? As deleting the backbox is in violation of Regulation 54 of the Road Vehicles (construction and use) Regulations 1986. Just interested to know 👍

There is no noise limit in the UK on MOTs (or at all). The only thing that can happen is that it can be noted as an advisory. The Police can however pull you over either for disturbing the peace, or (more likely) for distracting other drivers with exessive noise; they could then technically impound the car; though it would be rare.
@@OsellaSquadraCorse thanks although I have recently been informed there is a maximum sound exhaust level of 82 decibels, a loud exhaust is indeed a mot failure, the police can also provide on the spot fines or worse still as you say impound the car.
@@markb9974 The 82db refers to the Type Approval requirement. Depends on the car age as to whether that is applicable or not (like seatbelts, cat, etc). Sounds a lot like a series 1 Jag E-Type!
I guess that’s a good thing! Haha
The straight pipes and the end tips what diameter are they 3" ? Or 2"5 please I'm planning to get my done myself
And what diameter of this pipe I will need?
Where did you buy the straight pipes ?
The garage that did the modification supplied them
Hi Joel.
I follow you with your z4. I have just brought a z4 my self and done a fare few mods to it and only owned it for a mouth
Would you be interested in doing a review . Regards Shane
Seriously considering doing this to mine ;)
You should!
Hi, the check engine light turn on?
Bloody sick!
Sounds so good I think it's time to get a chip or tune
Yeah, the car could do with a bit more power!
Hi Jo, 12 years old z4, would it be too old?
Love it so much but friends advice is a very old car
Mine is 14 years old. I wouldn’t let it put you off!
@@itsjoel thanks jo, good video, love it!
sounds cool man. congrats! I think you get a few extra horses too
Want to do it for my z4.. do you know how much it costs?
Only cost me £150
I did this to my e60 530i and it drove me crazy. I got some mufflers put on as it was getting too much of the wrong attention
Yeah it’s not for everyone, sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it!
Hi
I'd like to do my coupe, can or can it be made so the original can be swapped back?
You could get some flanges welded on so you can bolt the muffler on and off. Or you could use electric exhaust valves, which will allow you to switch between straight piped and oem exhaust.
omfg ! i like it , from France my friend ! I watch all your videos and I love, I have a z4 also in 3.0 if 265, the noise is monstrous, I will do the same, I would make a video on my channel! full of good things for you Buddy! will it be a problem for the technical control to have the intermediary removed?
I own this generation Z4 (N52). It’ll sound better with both ur cats + 2x resonators removed. Problem is, removing the cats is a pain in the ass as its integrated into the header 🙄
What’s happens to the O2 sensors once all that is removed? Does it throw codes like crazy?
Does it triggers the engine light (O2 sensor )?
No, thankfully!
my backbox is finished , dead, it havent the property of silence the sound XD
i must delete "flame arrestor" and "catalyst"
they 2 are the sound killers
Have you found that sweet rpm range for the pops yet? Once you do you can make it sound like gun fires on your own accord.
Yep, I just tap the throttle around 3,500rpm and it’s pure gunfire
It's Joel Lol asbo! Trust me you never get bored of it.
Haha, it’s so addictive!
i have a 3.0i z3 and mines is catless exhaust and around 3.5/4000 it pops and bangs my neighbors hate so much haha
Haha good lad
MOT?
Probably Increases the H.p. by About 10-12, W/ Out the Cats. If U Know An Indep.BMW MECH., He Can Do the Software Upgrade on Car' s Computer That Dealers Chge.$375 for , W/ Laptop,If He Has the Dealer Knowledge, That Adds About 30-35 More H.p..Friend of Mine Had Dealer Do It To His Z3,3.0. His Is Auto,& Didn't Hurt Gas Mileage @ All,& Made It a Screamer, Almost 3.5 Range of H.p.
Why not an electric Cut out instead so you can choose if neigbors should sleep or wake up in the morning.
@joel pls answer me. What exhaust are you using?
Emil Kotsas it’s a backbox delete
So this lowers MPG?
No I don’t think it does, I think it was just the way I was driving it! I’ll make a video going into this in more detail 👍🏻
@@itsjoel haha, my mpg is always very low without straight pipes. :D but im about to "up"grade :)
Two weeks driving and listening that noise, and u want muffler back. I know that ;)
Haha, we’ll see .. you could be right!
what year is this z4
Omaunt Paige 2004
It's Joel thanks man , sounds nice keep up the good work.
Is it legal ? (In France also)
@It’s Joel what kind of exhaust tip did you use?
I'm not sure, the garage that did my backbox delete had the tips already
@@itsjoel just got my 2.5i but its 5spd so I'm guessing I should delete the middle silencer instead of backbox cause I need that 6th gear to be able to drive on highway lol
Sounds respectable.
Haha thanks!
It's Joel do update on her fuel efficiency after the box delete please😊
Ok, will do!
i should go to dyno after this change. Im thinking about do the same thing but im affraid of power loss
I wouldn’t worry, I haven’t noticed any change in power and a couple of exhausts specialists have said that it’s just a forum myth!
Power loss on this is a complete myth. I've de-catted/straight piped loads of cars and only every saw a benefit
Think about it. If high-performance cars wanted to increase HP don't you think they have massive exhaust systems with huge mufflers?
prontopac they do. Larger and clearer space means more air flow. More air flow means more power. Don't worry about HP... It's just a number ;-) plenty of other ways to measure a cars performance
Where did u get ur pipes btw
The place that did the job for me supplied the pipes too!
how much did it cost?
About £150
Where did u bought?
When your watch is worth more than your car 🙄
Can’t relate I don’t have a car or a watch
How much does a back box delete cost? Asking for a friend ....
