- Laurie Anderson Gravity's Angel Lyrics:
You can dance. You can make me laugh.
You've got x-ray eyes. You know how to sing.
You're a diplomat. You've got it all. Everybody loves you.
You can charm the birds out of the sky. but I,
I've got one thing. You always know just what to say.
And when to go. But I've got one thing.
You can see in the dark. But I've got one thing:
I loved you better. Last night I woke up. Saw this angel.
He flew in my window. And he said: Girl,
pretty proud of yourself, huh?
And I looked around and said: Who me?
And he said: The higher you fly,
the faster you fall.
He said: Send it up. Watch it rise. See it fall. Gravity's rainbow.
Send it up. Watch it rise. See it fall. Gravity's angel.
Why these mountains? Why this sky? This long road.
This ugly train. Well he was an ugly guy. With an ugly face.
An also ran in the human race.
And even God got sad just looking at him.
And at his funeral all his friends stood around looking said.
But they were really thinking of all the ham and
cheese sandwiches in the next room.
And everybody used to hang around him. And I know why.
They said: There but for the grace of the angels go I.
Why these mountains? Why this sky? Send it up.
Watch it rise. See it fall. Gravity's rainbow.
Send it up. Watch it rise. And fall. Gravity's angel.
Well, we were just laying there.
And this ghost of your other lover walked in.
And stood there. Made of thin air. Full of desire.
Look. Look. Look. You forgot to take your shirt.
And there's your book. And there's your pen, sitting
on the table. Why these mountains? Why this sky?
This ong road? This empty room? Why these
mountains? Why this sky? This long road.
This empty room.
This came out when I was a music student in college in 1984. In 1986 I was stationed at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn as a member of the US Army Band of New York City. We had a group that weekly would head up into the Village to drink and then go see the midnight double feature of "Stop Making Sense" and "United States Live" and these films changed me as a person and a musician. I will always value the time in my life before I became a full-time symphony orchestra musician as a career. I listened to so much great stuff and my mind was opened up to all sorts of ideas. I miss that time. And I loved Laurie Anderson and Talking Heads so much back then. Thank you for posting this.
I can relate. I was stationed at fort Myers 1984 army band as well and a friend found this after listening to her duet with Peter Gabriel. Great memories keep in touch
I got a lot of "Mr Heartbreak" on a mix tape given to me 40 years ago. Been a fan of hers ever since.
In the early 90th I was a visitor of the „Baltic Youth Conference“ on the „Schersberg“ in northern Germany. Our group made a Video-Collage and wie were searching for Music for it. I found a Record of a woman, called „Laurie Anderson“, and I first heard „Gravity’s Angel“, and it flashed me to the bones… for me a milestone in Electronic Music…
Truly a unique performer. I have three of her albums so far and want another.
To me, this was my college experience.
Great music world's perfect woman!
When I started writing Naked Lunch ...
Brano gigantesco, superlativo.
Thank you MsΕυανθία for the post with lyrics.

Merci beaucoup pour votre aide @media m'bawa
MsEvanthia, Why didn't you upload in stereo??? Good pix tho
I wasn't aware that it 's not in stereo. Thank you for noticing
@@MsEvanthia Oh Yeah you're missing half the song! Fabulous stereo effects!!!
I wonder if she has met Pynchon before or after this song
Good question. I guess after.
The story is that she wanted to make an opera of Gravity's Rainbow. Pynchon said 'You can do it, but you can only use banjo.'
Laurie got the best out of Adrian Belew
... next to ...Chris Frantz & Tina Weymouth.
