Just got through Bond Beginners & am eyeing some agency bonds next week. Thanks Jen & DNE team!
Purchased both Bond courses. Extremely pleased with the content and consider this the the best financial education purchase I have ever made,
Glad to hear Joanie - see you on Tuesday's LIVE!
Though the Bond Masters course focuses on purchasing individual Bonds, Bills, and Notes, I found that the section on things to consider when purchasing Bond Funds (ETFs) very informative and useful.
Both Bond Beginners & Bond Masters have been great. It's been an amazing resource for learning the most important elements of bond investing. I'm glad you decided to include TIPS as part of Beginners btw! Quick question - I can't make the Masters live this week. Will there be replay?
Hi Matt! Yes, there will be a replay! I am about to send an email out to everyone about this. Best - Eva
Can I get a link to that
My plan is to only buy 10-Yr Treasuries when the yield goes to 5% or higher. Anything less than 5% is too low IMO.
FYI, in Wall St Journal today (4/8/24, page B7): "Do Bond Ladders Really Work?" Spoiler Alert: Yes!
Perfect timing - thanks for sharing John!
I searched the WSJ on that specific date and I don't see the article.
Bonds taxation and what to expect in special cases such as called, reorganized, defaulted, etc.. would be useful information. Thank you for the great videos.
Most of that is covered in the courses. Eva
Hi Jennifer! Thank you for making this so understandable. I just finished the last module in bond beginners & am thinking of joinin bond masters. What's the difference between the courses & membership? 💎
Hi Lizzie. Jennifer will have a video on this very soon! Glad you are enjoying the courses! Eva
What level of knowledge is required for the Bond Masters course? I'm most interested in the content there. Thx.
From our website under the first FAQ "Who is Bond Masters for?":
"Bond Masters is a self-paced course for the do-it-yourself investor who has some basic knowledge of bonds & wants a framework for building a bond portfolio. The overall focus of this course is on individual bonds issued by the US government, agencies, municipalities & corporations, although we will have some videos on bond funds & some other alternatives as well.
Please note that basic knowledge includes, but is not limited to:
- How a bond works & foundational terms such as fixed income, face/par value, market price, interest/ coupon rate, auction vs secondary market, callability, current yield, yield-to-maturity, yield-to-call, yield-to-worst, etc.
- The difference between Treasuries, agencies, munis & corporates as well as inflation vs non-inflation-protected bonds, etc. &
- The fundamental risks of bond investing (e.g., credit risk, interest rate risk, reinvestment risk, liquidity risk, etc.)"
The most popular choice currently in our DNE community is buying both Bond Beginners & Bond Masters as a bundle (saves $100, plus we cover quite a lot of the basics). If you are uncertain, your best bet is to see check out the detailed Bond Beginners course overview on our website to see if you already know everything that's included: www.diamondnestegg.com/bond-beginners
If you're interested, our 15% offer is valid until tonight, Tuesday, April 30th at 11:59PM ET & our first Bond Beginners live online course session is also today, Tuesday April 30th at 5:30pm ET. Prices won't be this low again in 2024. Thanks for your interest.
the article is from april 5 th i saw it today.
I am new to bonds. Can you add a principal to an existing bond? Like adding another $10,000 next year to I bond I purchased this year.
No I believe you buy a new 10k bond so now you have 2 bonds. The 10k bond from your first year, and a 2nd 10k bond from the second year.
You have to buy a new bond - you can't "top" up an old bond
Is it advised to buy treasuries in a brokerage account so you can take advantage of the state tax exemption?
Is that true for a traditional IRA? Would you actually get a report showing which gains came from a US Treasury when you withdraw years later?
You lose the state tax exemption on Treasuries when purchased in a traditional IRA. That said, we hold Treasuries in both our brokerage & retirement accounts.
@@DiamondNestEgg my state (PA) does not tax IRA withdrawals so doesn’t matter to me, but I know there are states that do.
I buy mine thru treasury direct anyway. 5000 a week ladder set thru late June for now.
Short term for me now
@@DiamondNestEgg 🤩Especially in a state like Delaware with high income taxes.
Hi Jen. Your shirt changed colors half way thru the video. 🤣😂🤣
@Jennifer, in your chart, describing different investor types, I would qualify as the investor who doesn’t have time to watch the bond markets. I have W-2 income, and a 9 to 5 job. Therefore I would like to ladder into a tax advantage account, such as a Roth. However, I noticed as of today, April 8, 2024, that US treasury notes have a better yield than CDs. Therefore, why did you suggest CDs for my investor type?
You can also choose option 3 - it all depends on your individual circumstances, goals & expectations
This is why I am accumulating TLT here. I will still buy Treasuries, just far less than what I've been buying. When I take my profits in TLT, I will likely be switching to equities.
Thanks for sharing but accumulating TLT is not the same as building a bond ladder. We talk about the three Cs here: ua-cam.com/video/EReUe8utwqk/v-deo.htmlsi=vcbNkppqViXDLdqB
TLT is a good hedge 😂 But I waiting for it to drop below $90 and buy most when it is around $85
