If this is a hardware synth, that will be the largest screen on any synth ever.

I was literally just shopping for a new midi controller when somehow I found this. That would be a power move for behringer, for sure. In a world where music instrument hardware rarely represents available technology, a device like that would be a much needed bridge and proof that Behringer is actually listening to music makers instead of just saying they are.

Modular is a good way to do that. Yeah, it's damn expensive, but being able to use like my Victor through a Moog Ladder filter is nice. Or Brains through a 2500 filter. Even better, run filters parallel or sequence when they affect the sound or more. It's really endless, it's just again, expensive. My modular rig currently is around $4k, and is mostly Behringer modules (a few others that really brought up that price like a Hermond and Grone) but to me is worth it. It's a groovebox, synth, drum machine, ambient production suite, and really anything I need it to be whenever I want it. Have a few digital oscillators and analog ones and you can mix and match what oscillators go with which filters or even deeper.
The closest we ever got with that in a digital format was the M-Audio Venom, which was a nightmare to program as you HAD to use the VST to program it. However, you can snag them for like $100-200 now and they sound great. The demo patches are quite shite, but there's some cool preset packs people have released as well as, if you have an old enough computer to use the VST with, you can program your own sounds into it. Very powerful synth for it's time and price tag, makes most modern digitals look silly. I use one all the time in my music for soft Jupter-style pads/strings.

You know, let's look at this.
They have a proven chassis. They have a proven keybed. The processing power, storage and memory are readily available. The code is already written, and would need only to be ported. They have everything they need, not least including the R&D and the manufacturing capacity. People in the comments are saying the screen is too big and unrealistic. Really? Why? Touchscreens are all over the place now, in all sorts of sizes and aspect ratios. There was a time when smart phones and PDAs were the biggest touch screens around, then came tablets; the Surface took it further, then laptops, now you're seeing them on refrigerators. Come on. You really think there's a limit here? I see no legitimate reason why this couldn't be done. Whether they will or not is of no consequence, this is all speculative, but the capability is there.

it's been done before by Wolfgang Palm and his team (PPG) with the REALIZER. Basically a monitor with knobs around (2-3 made). They didn't succeed cause of the high costs (PPG was always a small company) and the limitations of processor power and memory limitations.

Setting aside the typo, would they really implement that? In quarter inch jacks? I think it's a virtual mockup.

So you think it's like the Roland Phantom (I think it's called) series? I mean the synths in which you can 'load' Juno, Jupiter and more Roland synths. The same as with their Jupiter-X and Juno-X, thanks to the ACB system.
I'm not so sure about if Behringer is doing this, but it would be very awesome if they where..

The Fantom series of keyboards are workstations more than synths. They have really rudimentary level sound synthesis, but they're built to be more of an "all in one" keyboard with sequencers, drum machines, samplers, etc. in one keyboard. Almost like an arranger keyboard, but more on the programming side and less on the live performance/weddings side.

      @@wildphilpresents It is the System-8.
(As I said, I wasn't sure of the name.)

    • @wildphilpresents
      @wildphilpresents 5 місяців тому +1

@@FrederikAlkema Yeah, no worries brother. The System-8 IS a pretty powerful synth. Lots of hands-on control. The Plug-out thing that it and the System-1 have though is a tad overrated imo. I have the System-1 and once I loaded the SH-101 plug-out in it, I felt the others really just lacked. The ACB technology they use is very plastic sounding. Especially for the pricetag. It reminds me of late 90's VA's (besides the JP8k which sounds like a dream come true) on how they all had that weird metallic texture to them from the digital oscillators. The Korg MS-2000 for instance had a permanent resonance to it that you couldn't filter out. The AN1x for instance also had pretty stepped knobs when tweaking them and also had a weird high frequency to all patches that you had to EQ out of it when recording because it'd cut through mixes. The Alesis Ion was my favorite from that era besides the JP-8000 because it sounded buttery af and it's mod matrix was unparalleled at the time. The issue again though, was you could hear that digital filter for sure. It had a bit of crunchiness to it and with the ability to overdrive literally every part of the Ion's signal flow, you would often get some pretty violent patches.
The closest we have to a "VST Loaded Synth" would be the old OpenLabs synths that were essentially a midi controller with a built-in full windows PC in it. Those are insanely pricey though due to the technology of the time to make a powerful compact computer in a midi controller with a functioning touch screen (which in the early 2k's was inanely expensive) and honestly, in today's market, I wouldn't touch one of those with a 10 foot pole. They are capped out on Windows XP so almost no 64-bit software will work with it properly and they cost almost 2k on the used market.
I'm honestly surprised in today's society with Raspberry Pi 4's out that someone hasn't designed something like a VST-filled synth for stupid cheap. Technologically it wouldn't be terribly difficult, especially with tons or even most VST's being linux compatible. There's one guy that came out with the DEXED 8x DX7 module using a raspberry pi that has literally 8 instances of DEXED (a free DX7 vst) but then some a-hole took that design and made a bigger box out of it and is asking like $1k for it, when the DIY will set you back MAYBE $30-40 and is actually really easy to do. You'd just need someone that can 3d print a shell/body for it to be either a keyboard or desktop module. Realistically you'd be able to only really load 1 VST at a time due to the DSP on the raspberry pi not really being strong enough for some of the insane VST's.
      Anyways, enough rant.

It def would be huge if this turns out to be reality. A large interface would be perfect for wavetable synthesis, and stuff with step-lfo sequencing that feature fully customizable lfo shaping modulations. Really talking about Xfer Serum and NI Massive territory here. These plugins are the bread and butter of a lot of Dubstep and heavy bass music. It’ll be cool to have more hardware synth options that can do all that. I only know that the Waldorf Quantums can do this stuff, also Modal’s Argon8 synths (if paired with an iPad). Even Roland with their Fantom’s n/Zyme synth. I really think Behringer should jump into wavetable synths since there’ll be digital. Lastly, I agree with the missed opportunity on Arturia’s Astrolab. It be redeeming though if one day they’ll implement the ability to fully program your sounds if paired with an iPad, just like the Argon8.

Dude! Remember maybe a couple weeks ago, on your video about the Vintage plug-in, I commented that wouldn’t it be awesome if some synth company comes out with a hardware synth with a screen that size? Now, I do think the images you’re taking about here are just a rendering to promote the plug in, but I also do hope you’re right. If that is really a hardware version, maybe it’s what I suggested to B before: to come up with an end-all controller with a multi-track, gazillion note sequencer. Basically, a hardware DAW. Maybe this is it? That would be awesome, but again I do think it’s just to promo the plug in. I will keep an open mind though. We’ll see!

It would cost too much to make a screen that size/shape unless there is already a screen being manufactured with those dimensions at scale. Kinda like Arturia using that circular screen/dial on that new keyboard they make. I think Google makes it for their in home tracking devices, the nest or whatever. You try to develop products with existing parts to keep prices down. At least that’s my theory. Samurai should see if he can find one already being made.

Well, I downloaded and tried their vintage plugin, and compared to other free plugins like Vital, Surge XT and even the decade old Synyh1, I’m sorry but Vintage suck hard. So even if Behringer made their own version of Roland’s plugout like the system 8, they need to make plugins that are not laughably bad for people to even want to invest in their digital hardware. Roland’s ACB emulations are really good but unfortunately we can’t say that the system 8 has been a huge commercial success for Roland. So if Behringer wants any kind of success with this strategy, they need to come up with a plugin that sounds better than something that came out in 1998, come on here.
