How to Rotate AMD Spire Heat Sink - AMD Ryzen microATX Video Editing PC Build
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Quick video showing how to rotate your AMD Wraith Spire so that the AMD logo is orientated correctly with your case or whatever else you want to align it with. The heat sink it's self looks really nice. I've never seen one with a vapor chamber like this. It actually makes a lot of sense to use a vapor chamber instead of a solid copper slug. For one a vapor chamber would have far higher thermal conductivity and heat transfer capacity. And reason two, it would use like 1/10th the amount of copper and reduce shipping weight. Rather ingenious if you ask me.

Made by cooler Master. explains why the the stock cooler is so good.
WOLFCAM coolermaster sucks.
WOLFCAM i think you should delete the comment, the other guy did too anyway so there's no context anymore
lol
And that Vapor Chamber. Coolers with that tech costs at least $35 man.
So you're basically paying $170 for a R5 1600 and the other $35 for that cooler.
Such value!
MissMan666 you suck
OMG Thank you! My heat sink blocks one of my DDR4 slots... you just changed my life.
SAME
It doesn’t work. Or this only works for Spire coolers. On stealth you can’t even get the screw out without breaking it. Now i have to spend extra for after market
@@someguywithmtndew5691 it worked for me so ur just doing it wrong
@@lewisthow2846 nvm, i was raging. I just found out you can take off the plastic ring
@@someguywithmtndew5691 without removing the screws? can you teach me how? i am having the same problem lol :D
3:47 Those tiny metal particles are dangerous, to avoid that would be a good idea to screw the fan before mounting it on the motherboard. Also i would blow those shavings away with the motherboard inverted so they fall off, cause they could get stuck between circuits and that could wreck the whole mobo.
@Matthew Blome does this video work with WRAITH STEALTH???
@@stevethea5250 This works with every cooler, except the max and the prism
When I saw the video i thought it was going to be some complicated process, the fact that people are griping about something so easy to fix makes me laugh.
+Iron Beard haha IKR! It's so easy! I mean it does scratch the plastic shroud a little if you're not careful.
It's so easy it makes me laugh...AMD couldn't do it... ;)
Well atheist Amd provides a nice sink/fan that's enough
This was easy lol, but plot twist! Did not know they had a vapor chamber :D still for some reason did enjoy the vid. Give us benchmarks of the whole build and prices :)
couldn't you just use a smaller screwdriver an not scratch the shroud?
The outside of the anti-static bag is not anti-static
what the fuck
Wtf Xd
the outside is actually conductive
i believe he did it so he wont scratch the surface of the table and/or the back of the motherboard
That comment i was searching for
Thank you so much kind man for fixing my problem when i was building my PC in 2019. TYSM!!!
super simple, but good to see someone else do it first :)
3:55 Won't advice blowing like that into other components on the motherboard. Rather use sticky tape to get it stuck on and have it 99% removed. But very good point mentioning it tho :D
That's a far better idea! I'll do that in the future, thanks!
Thanks Nisco :D
Better yet , do the unscrewing NOT on your mobo , do the rotation first , then build it on to the mobo !
@@gertjanvandermeij4265 please show video dont understand
@@stevethea5250 just rotate the cooler before mounting it
same process, but not on the motherboard
thanks for the walk through. Took the cooler off and did it completely away from my B350 motherboard to ensure no tiny bits of shaved aluminium caused issues. Looks superb in my case now. Top man ✌️
You can actually separate the Plastic Fan's upper part so you will be able to screw it with the Heat Sink easily
how so? part of the fan comes off so that unscrewing/rescrewing it back in isn't such a hassle you mean?
Didn't even know I wanted to do this. Thank you!
This is more than OCD bro. The amd logo was covering my first ram slot. Thank you, thumbs up!!
then turn it other way
alternatively you can go OUTSIDE the case, flip the cooler over and under the AMD logo there are 2 screws, take those 2 out, then 4 tabs hold the trim ring to the other piece of plastic and you can pop that off then remove the 4 screws without your screw driver scrapping up the plastic, it's also significantly easier to get the screws aligned properly. slightly more labor overall but worth it to me to keep it scratch free.
Maybe the RGB ones have the two screws, mine is not RGB and it did not have any screws on the shroud, it just has the four plastic tab clips to remove the shroud.
Nice to see it is simple. I have the R7 1800x and a water cooled setup. Just bought the R7 1700 for my daughter and was reading up on the Wraith Cooler.
hey its me ur son , gimmie R7 1700 pls
The single fact that the CPU itself is installed with all the text sideways already triggers my OCD
I highly recommend taking off the logo ring first (two screws on a notch on the underside) as this allows you to access the fan screws easily rather than having the possibility of threading the screw diagonally. However this does have to be done before the cooler is mounted
thank you tons dude, my cooler was blocking my RAM slot so this is a lifesave
I figured the coolers, or at least the fans were cooler master because I bought a used first gen (early) Ryzen cpu and it came with a cooler master branded cooler that looked very very similar to the AMD stock coolers you see now. I'm just getting into computer building again after a 30 year break, and plan to do a lot of used parts builds so when I found a a "lot" of 12 AMD stock coolers on ebay for $50.00 I jumped at it and may do the same with a "lot" of intel stock coolers so I'll always have some kind of cooling option available cheap although I am told intel coolers aren't worth crap.... might have to go aliexpress snowman cooler for intel.
That screwing zoom-in was delicious...thank you.
DE-LISHH
The Led Ring shroud clips off to make removing the screws a lot easier to get to and less likely to strip screws.
I couldn't get mine off. Feels like it's glued on. I have the non-lighted version.
I have the non-lighted version as well but the shroud came off after a long struggle. Make sure you lift on the various edges to get it off the clips (my shroud show 6 clips underneath).
I still cant get the fan screws off (they're really tight on mine), however I realized my RAM can now squeeze in the slot once the shroud is off! Not sure if going shroudless is a good idea.
Also. I did the job with my machine fully assembled. Probably an unwise move, but it ended up making the job simple. Of course, unplug the power first, etc.
CDO, OCD but in alphabetical order
+Brettvella1984 lol yeah
I had two of these precious and ultra-hyper-rare AMD Wraith Spire RGB coolers (the most beautyful cooler EVER created!!) completely disassembled two days ago. I recommend pressing the plastic to the direction of the inner ring to get better access to the screws (otherwise the plastic of the outer side of the plastic cover gets completely scratched when just trying to turn it), or pressing the sides of the outer ring outside a little bit which gives the possibility to remove the outer ring with the LED light completely to get unlimited access to the four screws. OK it`s hard to explain in English you know what I mean :D Well because every single brand logo inside my PC is written vertical with the upper side of the letters rotated to the rear end of the PC (MSI, Edge. g.Skill and so on), I decided to keep the AMD brand logo also rotated to the rear end of the PC.
By the way the AVD-motor seven blade cooler design has a way better performance than the Coolermaster-motor five blade rotor design, it runs almost 7 to 10 degrees cooler (but the five blade rotor "shredder" like design you have in this video looks more iconic uniquè and interesting inside a casemod build than the more casual typical fan-alike seven blade AVD design).
Bonus tip, you can use the fan shroud for cable management!
You shouldn't put your components on top of anti-static bags, it's a common mistake. The outside of the bag is actually conductive.
Tinkula It makes no difference. Never in my life have I heard any PC component die to static.
Yeah me neither, it's really hard to do it. However he's clearly using the bag trying to protect his motherboard from the static when he'd be better off using placing it on the wooden table. If he cares about that stuff then he should know he's actually making it worse by doing that.
Perhaps he turned the bag inside out?
Tinkula not true nowadays
been doing it for 16 years, never killed one yet.
Oh man! This is the most satisfying video to me))) I mean, they make one of their greatest cpu and fail to position amd logo on the top??? I was waiting for this, so thank you Makerj 101!
I didn't even look when I installed it... Thanks for a simple fix!
I wonder why AMD made it so it was sideways by default? I will def be doing this, I will do it before mounting so I don;t get metal shavings on my Motherboard though lol.
yes why they do sideways? and the middle sticker is not very aligned ARGH
Thank god I found you!
Good to know it'll be easy to deal with this. Also really nice to see a Mortar mobo in action, as I just bought a Mortar Arctic for the build I'm doing. :D
Thanks for posting this, I'm glad it's that easy. Will be picking one up next week and was considering just getting an aio just because the sideways logo would make me mental. Will definitely not do this when mounted though, can't have shavings getting into places they shouldn't be.
this is so cool!
I wanna know how to make like that before but now I knew it! thank you so much!!
Wow, really?! Why wouldn't this be done and have it out of the box boggles me. Thank you, sir, this will fix my OCD!
thank you kid,
good video.
keep'em coming
Quite surprised to see a vapor chamber in a stock heatsink. AMD went quite above and beyond this time.
only for them to remove it in 2019.
It can also be done without being mounted right?
Nope or else everyone would be putting it on correctly. I showed that in the video. The mounting points are in a rectangular pattern not a square pattern.
I mean you don't have to have it mounted before changing the fan orientation. You should be able to spin the fan then mount it I feel
Just watch the thermal paste. Unless you plan on putting your own on anyway (though you probably still don't want it getting everywhere)
@@rrd3k3 i dont understand
@@rrd3k3 (very late comment) Though you probably already figured it out you don't need to have it mounted to rotate it, just make sure the thermal paste isn't gonna touch anything.
This video is awesome!
Actually, you can remove the fan shroud with a little careful effort before you begin to mount the cooler and then the fan screws are much easier to remove and make the whole process a breeze.
Como tira ?
Thanks for the vid! My friend built a pc and his cpu came with this fan but he was gonna use a different so he just gave this to me and I plan to use it in my build and I really didn't like how it was gonna be sideways especially when I'm gonna have a glass sided case.
Wow thanks you just made my day.
Needed this thank you so much!
I did this before I knew there was a video for it. Just 4 little screws, makes it look much better, and takes less than 5 minutes.
Some guy on another video told me that the round AMD logo part of the CPU fan comes off and can even be rotated...no need to unscrew the screws except if you are cleaning clogged dust of the fan metal base..
you've been subbed! keep up the good work!
I needed this forma mini itx build, so that this cooler fits
Good idea. I wish I had doe it before I mounted my heat sink.
Clever solution. Thank you...
nice! this covers thread alignment, a major hastle at times :) I hope you've been doing ok!
Great video very helpful. I did still in the case only problem is when you was screwing the screws back in you stripped some of the aluminum on the heatsink if you simple carefully align the screws (like literally as perfect as the naked eye can see) before screwing in you can avoid "missing the threads" I did it with absolutely zero aluminum coming off.
thanks man! and thanks to AMD for cooler master cooler
3:57 - probably not the best idea to blow aluminium filings all over the motherboard where they can, and will, lodge under the components.
The IT shop I've bought my new PC has mounted the AMD logo over a RAM slot and it annoyed me because I'm not able to set a new RAM on that.
Thanks for this video pal!
It doesn't make it perform better at all. That said, I can totally understand where you're coming from. It would annoy the heck out of me if I was trying to make a build that looked nice. Thanks for saving countless people from sleepless nights with chronic OCD.
You can pull up on the plastic ring, 3 points, and it pops off, then remove screws, less chance of stripping...
FYI if your going to use Premier Pro, go with nVidia. Reason being Pr uses CUDA cores in nv GPUs and thus the AMD cards sadly offer no rendering advantage.
great video..!!! thumbs up
please update your video.. there's so many things you are doing wrong.
- working on top of static bag
- working while still mounted on the mother board
- blowing the shrapnel all over your board
- and the biggest part is that you can actually remove the shroud by pulling on the large tabs and then pulling on the "bottom" tab. After a bit of wiggling the entire piece comes off. Be sure to disconnect the LED module before separating the pieces.
Theres nothing wrong with building on a anti static bag
I've been trying to get that plastic shroud off for the past 40 minutes, my fingers hurt and it's so tight on there I'm 100% sure I can lift my whole PC with it
Awesome video thanks man
I mean this is helpful, not because of OCD, rather that the logo is in the way of the memory slots.
A vapor chamber? :O Nice!
Mine had 8 AA batteries.
Good video very informative, thanks
The mobo esd protection bag only works if the hardware is inside it btw.
THANK YOU. I WILL FIX THIS ASAP
Great video
Fantastic video.
Be cerful with the metal shreds that come of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT stress it enough
bought the led wraith spire for $20 lowered my temps by 10c its a good cooler and looks good too
Can't reach the screw with any screwdriver on mime
I just noticed these two videos about your new computer; hopefully you did get it all put together by now? I have a r7 1700 as well and would like to hear about your overclocking for the cpu and ram.
Awesome! thanks!
can you please add the specs on the description thanks :-) I think I can do that to Ryzen 3 3200g too??
Wow. This is awesome. Though, like what others have said, don't put your MOBO on the anti-static bag.
Nice video! Building on the anti static bag is not a good idea though, as only the inside of the bag is non conductive. Building on top of the box the mobo came in is much better.
I wonder why AMD doesn't ship them like that to begin with. And it would be even better if the fan support struts lined up with the "X" that separates the heat fin sections, like how Corsair has gone with a straight "X" strut pattern for their new fans instead of the off-center struts like most fans.
+Ir0nF1st924 IDK maybe AMD or Cooler Master had a miss communion somewhere along the line. Or maybe you're just meet to change the orientation yourself. Yea X pattern would be nice.
you are my hero
nice set up mate but that vga will kill the cpu power
Instant sub!
All you guys that are saying don't use the anti-static bag, what do you suggest you put the mother board on. Just a wooden table?
Set it on top of the box the MB came in.
good video looks great
I realized that you did the procedure without memory ram. The error LEDs that came on were CPU and DRAM? I installed my machine without ram and turned on those two leds. Sorry for the bad english
We have the same mobo and CPU AND Cooler!
Mine is upside down but the cable routing works better for me.
Hi man. Thank u for this tutorial, i will try it a little later.
I bought a few days ago Ryzen 1700 and gtx 1050ti for video editing, mb is Msi tomahawk arctic B350. I noticed that my wraith spire is not illuminated when i turn on my pc. It gradually begins to gain brightness during ~20 minutes of working... But all the same it does not illuminate so brightly. When I turned on pc for the first time, it was very brightly.
Is it defect? Help me pls...
My red LED ring stopped working after I did this. Any idea how to fix?
Hola! tengo un Ryzen 7 2700 pero cuando conecto el cable RGB solo muestra color amarillo como en tu video, que tengo q hacer para ver todos los colores aura?
nice! thanks
I kinda want to remove the white led from the amd logo. But I was wondering about warranty, If my processor dies and I don't have a all the parts it came with in tact, will I still be able to claim warranty?
You can use this CPU with BOINC app to help scientists find a cure for cancer or study the data captured from radio telescops. With 16 threads up to 4GHz you can help more then you think.
Can you please make another series on building another internal combustion engine? Love your videos!
YESSSS it's coming soon! How about making one from an old refrigerator compressor? Thanks!
Don't try this if you have a Ryzen 7, the screws are in an angle that you could potentially damage some shit. I slightly blemished the ring where the lights are on mine, so now I have a black dot that won't go away, and while I could have been more careful, but it was damn near impossible to get them in or out since it's like trying to fucking put a screw in a wall sideways.
nice vid
So the ones with aio cooling are left behind ? :'(
cover fan can be removed
My fan screws are too tight what should I do?
Thank you soooooo much
It is better to do this off the motherboard, not on it. That small copper piece that you brushed off, and those aluminum shavings that you blew off, they might short circuit and burn your motherboard.
Hello friend. nice video. But its first slot for ram now usable ?
4:53 looks its. but i want to be sure.. thanks
Never ever do that when cooler is on the motherboard. the screw slipped from my hand, hitting a ram slot. leaving it dead.
You may say it is my fault, but it is a precautionary action not to do that. Mistakes that costs money and tears can happen.
Only the inner of the motherboard bag is ESD safe!
It's not that I dissasemble frequently, but do I need to reapply thermal paste every time I remove the heatsink and put it back on?
Awesome Video! We painted a spire cooler white, and ran into all the same issues with taking the fan off. Check out our white spire cooler on our channel!
