    The main problem is, nobody is paid FAIRLY. Meaning paid all the overtime, night hours and weekend hours. Period.

    Great vid Kev, thanks ;) I've been a Class 2 HIAB driver for 2 years now and I love it. The money is not ace, but I am more physically fit than I pretty much have ever been and I'm 47 now. There is a lot of moaning from other drivers, but it's mainly about money and we should get more for what we do. The roads are busier and more tricky to deal with and getting to the places employers want you to go is not easy. I drove lorries when I worked on a farm when I was a teenager and loved it!! I ended up as a manager, got really unfit and unhappy and had to look into myself in order to make a change, and I love driving lorries and so that was my natural draw back to being a happy soul. They move at their own speed and will not be rushed for no bugger and I love that :) Keep up the good work amigo ;)

    As a distance driver myself I agreed to 99.9% of your quotes especially other road users!!! spend a lot of time down Dartford area and people are just in one mad rush to beat you, they don't give you room at roundabouts even if straddling lanes to hold some back they will run up partly on the path to pass it's suicide in my opinion,
    I personally enjoy the job it's the poor wages that's drawn me to chase up another career......but then again my dream to become a commercial pilot has always been on the agenda it's the funding that held me back, I'm pleased to announce that I've now been accepted by a finance company to fund my training,
    might as well go balls out I figured we live once there's nothing to lose but a whole lot to gain.............Stay safe out there drive.

      Good luck guys but don’t expect to much everyone is different your circumstances will change as you get older relationships and children a big one that throws a different light on Trucking, but if this is what have chosen to do good luck, One piece of advice don’t let your boss make you do things that are illegal or borderline there’s a lot of the them including the big players, remember your license is your living and VOSA will not hesitate to take it away along with a very large fine. and your boss won’t back you up that’s almost guaranteed.

    In regard to this video. I am a newly qualified class 2 driver and i am starting to really not enjoy it. I was really hyped and jumped through hoops to get my licence. I have had agency work that has completely paid for all my training and tests, so there is no monetary loss to me now. Other vehicles piss you off so much, it makes you so mad, coz you're a professional driver and most car drivers do not know how to drive. I may go back to van driving, less stress. I will see what happens in the coming new year and i hope i enjoy it. Be warned those of you thinking of getting your HGV licence. There is a massive hype of obtaining it. This fades as time goes on and you see the reality

      Hey Matt, yeah it's difficult to balance family life with class 1 and for me family always comes first, I'd never be able to be out Monday to Friday, you can never get that time back.
      I've been very lucky with the hours I work, being able to experience nights out in an artic and also plenty of family time.
      Fortunately I don't have to go near the showers and the miserable gits tend to keep them self's to them self's 😂 take care mate and and keep it shiny side up 👍

    kev 100 per cent right m8. I passed my class 2 in july 2017. I started this journey because I thought I was stuck in a dead end job. I used to see vacancies on website stating hgv driver 1 or 2 with 30000 a year. This drove me apply for the licence. I still member the first day I went to local driving school the first thing thing lady said to me was " so you here to make money". I literally couldnt answer the question thinking what to say. Anyway I failed few times and eventually I passed my test. The class 2 licence has costed me few thousands of pounds. Anyway when I passed I laterally couldn't find any work. I applied for different jobs and whoever replied to me asked for how much experience I have had and once I told them that I was new, the answer was sorry m8 our insurance wont cover new drivers. Eventually I was offered a job for class 2. As I mentioned earlier I was already working in social services therfore I just didnt want to leave my job straigjt away cos I wanted to know first what was this class 2 driving all about.
    so I said to the manager if I could go out with someone for few days before taking up the full time role and leaving my current job. He agreed. I satrted to go out with another driver and realised within few days that it was a pretty hard for the money that was being offered. £8.60 plus meal allowance. The work involved of multi drops around leeds at times doing home deliveries. At time we went to some residential streets where you wont be able to get the truck around on your own. That scared the hell out of me
    Therefore, I decided not to leave my current job and I told the manager that I can do some part time driving for them if they required however they declined.
    I joined few agencies however was wanrned by my friemd who is a class 1 driver that beware the agencies will throw you right at the deep end jobs with shit trucks etch.and once you fuck up a job they wont call you back. I exactly new my driving skills therefore I took his advice and statred to look for a job where there wont be many delieries and fit in with my current job. I thank god that I found part time work. I have done quite a few long distamce runs for them . What I have experienced so far is that it is one of a hell of a boring job sitting on your bum all day. The traffic most of the motorways is horrible. I was thinking of upgrading to class 1 but now I wont. Most of the class 1 jobs are to stay away for 4 nights sleeping on laybys. Fucking hell I cant even think of doing this. Sleeping in a truck for 4 nights no chance. To cut this long story short. Hgv driving is not a career its a dead end job. I sould have used my brain in the first place and should have looked for another part time job on the side alongside with my contracted job. Please don't befool yourself when you look at these vacancies on the internet. HGV DRIVER'S 30000 POUNDS A YEAR. Its all bullshit, if they pay you that much they will suck the life out of you. you will have no family, social life whatsoever. This job will turn you into a miserable mong as most of these driver look. Kev is absolutely right I have experienced this myself. Whenever. ive been to a services or a delivery point they wont say hello or hi to you except staring at you.

    4am starts delivering multidrop in Central London in a 7.5 tonne for £10 an hour, then the nights away, £25 barely covers the parking fees, it's a highly stressful job, all responsibility lies with the driver and penalties and fines are common. It can be a depressing experience getting half way through the day and carrying a parking penalty or a yellow box penalty that just cost you half your days wages or more. There just isn't enough reward for the risk/effort. Long haul work is fine but you won't see much of your family, and theres the risk of break in or robbery. A great and honest vid Kev

    Great video, positive attitude is essential and my biggest challenge is other HGV drivers. Be it in the UK or North America, too much ignorance and arrogance. They have a high opinion of themselves and think the trucking industry will come to a standstill without them, I wish there were unity amongst drivers, we'd make the industry with strength in numbers but will never happen. Great video.

    Become a class 1 driver and work for royal mail. 39k for. 35 hr week, home everynight. Most are on around about 45k with a few hours overtime and shift allowance. There basic is about £19 per hour. Night shift allowance is £108 per week. Most duties the driving content is about 20 off hours. Your trailer is loaded/unloaded for you and your not tying up loads in the wet. Some people might find it boring driving from RDC to RDC/MAIL CENTRES but nobody can beat them on pay. The only thing is you need to be a postman first in most cases£24k per year or start through an agency doing the odd hours for royal mail class 1. If you work in the London area you get an extra 5k London allowance both for class 1 and normal postie.

    I quit as a HGV driver last year. My main problem as a HGV driver is waiting around times. I’ve pulled up to a site numerous times and left 2-3 hours later. In fact I’ve had two occasions where I’ve waited 6 hours. I’m a class 2 worker, and I was hoping I could get into class 1 work by taking my test. But after reviewing situation and seeing that they don’t get paid a great deal more, I don’t think I’m going to bother. Don’t think it’s worth the hassle and stress of getting your truck down small tight roads etc. I think I’d rather just work as a van driver. Easier to drive and not much difference in wages.

    Hi Kev would you say the lack of facilities in this country for drivers is a scandal . Traffic commissioners expect drivers to be professional and rightly so . But nobody wants to treat us as such . People in prison for murder get treated better than tramper drivers . That's why I gave it up and work for a supermarket now . Stolen diesel slashed curtains no parking or stuck in a layby with no toilets . Maybe we should get compensation for slopping out . Still love driving but sometimes this crazy country drives you round the bend . We were snowed off for one day last year and I had a woman stop me in the middle of the road to ask if I had milk and bread on my truck .One day just think what a drivers strike would do . But then we would be the bad ones hurting the economy .

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  5 років тому

      Facilities for drivers are few and far between, not big enough and are always filthy considering the cost. I'm never keen on doing nights out due to the stress of finding adequate parking with facilities. We're desperate for more secure parking with clean facilities and healthy food that won't bankrupt us every night.

    I understand about some drivers Being miserable, I think the reason for most of them is , they don’t cream themselves about their job like you do ,they’ve probably had the shitest week ever and they’ve been mugged off by some bell end goods in wimp telling them they’ve missed their slot because they were stuck on a closed section of motorway that didn’t show on the signs until they’d gone past the only junction that would of let them avoid it ( personal experience) you also forgot to mention about aggressive security guards ignorant booking in staff and most people you come across,, not all these people are pricks ,, but a good percentage are . It’s changed for the worst since I started 30 years ago , I keep hearing about how we are worth more money , you get nowt without trucks ,, it’s all shite ,, the only people thinking and saying this is us drivers , nobody else gives a fuck , the company I left last year had just dropped the money for new starters, who were gonna be doing the same as guys on £75 a week more ,, wtf is that about ,, anyone thinking of hgv for a living, take you Mrs n kids away with your £3000 it costs to get a class one and when you get back , stack shelves at Tesco for more money than a hgv driver ,, adios

    How about we just say as it is, first of all is an unbalanced way of living for not that much money extra. There is an old japanese saying that a man`s life should be divided in 3 equal parts 1 part for working 8h, 2 part for resting 8h and 3 part for himself! Now any time you brake that rule and you incline to any more than another is going to end up bad, poor health, you can not eat properly, rest, wash yourself, I hear about drivers doing europe falling like flyes because of hearth problems, you can not have a social life, not to speak a relationship, if you do at some point you are going to be 3 in that :))), anxiety for living in a cab for 12 f hours a day and the list .....can go on. I consider myself lucky and I get to be in bed most of the nights but in 8 diffrent companies usualy you do a min of 10 hours and 12 so prepare for a pattern of work and legume after because if you add the comute....is going to be an extra hour so after 12-13 hours a day good luck with the rest guys

    • @KevTee
      @KevTee  6 років тому

      I completely agree with what your saying and balance is important. If you do what you love then part 1 & 3 become the same so I actually have a spare 8 hours for family time. I don't believe anyone should settle for doing something for 8 hours plus that they dont want to do but many do.

      Hi Mr A, love being on fridges, got to be the easiest work after containers, just back up to the bay and stick the kettle on......sleeping is fine once you get use to it and be prepared for the abuse from other drivers in the services, I avoid the services and usually stay on customer sites or a quiet industrial estate. Hope tomorrow goes well 👍
