I have had buttermilk pies and I love them. My grandmother would make buttermilk, egg custard and lemon meringue just for me. I learned how to cook being in the kitchen with my grandmother. My grandfather used to make this when I was a child. I was never a the kid for sweets, but this pie could get the business every time, lol. So....yesterday our good friends had his Pops 75th celebration. Pops' wife made them. Made this yesterday. Delicious and so easy. Used my small Breville toaster oven (to avoid heating up the house) so baked a little longer than necessary probably. To make sure the bottom crust was done. Left it with a darkish crème brûlée crust on top. Wonderful!

I’ve had buttermilk pie and egg pie. I’ve never prepared either. I recall my Daddy saying my Grandmother baked them all the time when he was growing up. I think his favorite pie was sweet potato. My Mother would bake 2 and freeze one so he could have it whenever. You’ve made me have one of those moments of missing my parents and grandparents!

The first time I tasted a buttermilk pie was around 3 years ago. I could not believe how good it was. I made one recently with less sugar. It was good, too.
I love buttermilk pie !! Make them for our holiday get togethers. I experimented once and used a deep dish pie crust and added some shredded coconut to the mixture and it was like coconut custard pie...it was very good.....

I love Buttermilk Pie. My Great Grandmother used to make them all the time. If you add coconut you don't add sugar.
