This was the coaster that brought me into the coaster enthusiast world. I remember finding out about Skyrush while not doing my work in study hall. I rode it and it blew me away with its violent airtime and powerful laterals. I have more than 500 laps on this beast, and it never gets old.

After the second airtime hill, Skyrush just kinda meanders around, and the Stengel dives don't do anything for me. Also, there are only 3 good airtime hills on the ride, and Twisted Colossus does literally everything skyrush does but better.

This was an awesome review, and definitely agree with all that you said! I live 2 hours from Hershey and I rode it in 2012 when the lift hill wasn’t slowed down at the top. Oh my god, if you didn’t think it could be any more intense... it was. But no matter what it’s still the most intense coaster I have ever been on tied with I305. I love it. I’m glad the restraints don’t bother me but I can completely understand how they do for some people, some of my friends hate this ride. Looking forward to going back to Hershey, and hopefully Storm Runner will be running next year!

I am going back to quite a few of your older reviews, cause in 2023 when I rode many of these coasters for the first ever time, I am really enjoying comparing our opinions, from one true enthusiast to another. And yes, Skyrush was NUTS, and a BIG yes, boy oh boy did I get airtime on *this* Intamin hyper. You are so right about the first drop, it has 2 pops of ejector. I did as many rides as I could within 2 days whilst making sure I rode everything I haven't ridden before multiple times, although next time I am getting fast track express for Hershey. I avoided lightning racer as I've done it to death and superdooperlooper and only did one ride on Comet. Everything else was fair game, even did 2 on the boomerang. One great thing though was that Skyrush had less wait than the other coasters. And yes it wasn't that comfy, but honestly I found it tolerable even on my thick upper legs and tall frame, and as far as roughness, well that level of shuffle is not even something I talk about, it's totally fine.
Now, no, I did not grey out. Mike, can you humour me and try keeping your mouth closed next time you ride this, just one time try it for the entire ride and see if it mitigates the grey outs? As said elsewhere, Titan and Goliath are the only rides that really cause me proper grey outs, but on Superman at home I was able to completely avoid the minor grey outs I initially had on my earlier rides, by closing my mouth. Someone explained the science behind it to me before, I have forgotten how it works, but it works. Just try it. I give Skyrush a 9.5/10 which is the highest I have rated any Intamin hyper with SFNE a 9. PS If you get enough room from ride op, try keep arms under restraints the whole way. You have to be willing not to hold on at any point for this to work, There's an angle and trick to it so you don't block your airtime with your arms/hands. Keep the restraints pushed up. If I ever meet you by fluke one day at Hershey or other rides that staple, I'll show you. In fact, I can probably take Skyrush to a 10/10, but my true 10's are for Iron Gwazi in the back seat and the like. However, Skyrush is close to perfection.
It's weird for me that my 2 favourite Intamin non looping coasters in the world both have unique "one off" restraints I don't find comfortable, but there it is. Comfortable or not, they allow my body to get extreme airtime, which I rate as very important. BTW, I didn't have any issue with shin guards on WCR even at my height. They don't bother me at all.
Hershey Park is my favourite overall amusement park in the United States and top 5 worldwide for me (amusement, not theme park). Such a wonderful place to visit again and again. I mean they even have a good invert for crying out loud. They have everything!
Edit, what other park has a hydraulic lauynch Intamin, a multi looper intamin, a hyper Intamin, an invert B&M, hyper B&M, 2 respectable woodies, a classic Anton looper AND an RMC all in the one park? Such an amazing place. The experience for me was a 20/10, seriously.

@@CanobieCoaster oh they were the new ones? Interesting. When did they change them and in 2023 july, is that what I definitely would have had? maybe that's why they weren't so bad for me. I was kind of wondering why people would say they were the worst lap bars in the world. Not comfortable but really not that bad either. I had 14 skyrush rids in my 2 days there.

  • @OklahomaCoasterFan
    @OklahomaCoasterFan 4 роки тому +2

My thoughts exactly! This was a top 3 bucket list US coaster, along with Phantom & Voyage, before last week. It certainly delivered! Unfortunately, I did feel pain from the restraints, especially on my left leg, which must sit slightly higher than my right, so it took all the force. It did hurt, and it left a bruise, but it was all worth it for that kind of insanity. The rattle did bother me, which I have never said about any other Intamin. Even back row on Kingda Ka was no problem for me. But this rattle would give me a brief headache on some rides. So I'm a bit torn on whether to put this in my top 10 or perhaps even out of my top 25. Still, that rain ride I got on Skyrush is one of the best single rides I've had on any coaster: no rattle, and the airtime felt like perfection. This is one of the few coasters that I keep my arms down on, because it's just that crazy.

I just rode for the first time this week. I absolutely love this coaster. Like you said, it throws you like a rag doll. This is one of the only coasters I can think of where I thought about holding on. Unfortunately, the restraints got to me. My thighs never recovered. My first ride was my best, but then it left my thighs slightly sore. Each ride added more pain. After 4 rides and going to bed, I still woke up with discomfort. I could only manage 2 more rides the next day before I could not take it any more. I also agree the restraints add to the openness, especially the laterals. I’m willing to accept this is one of the best coasters in the world, it is just not rerideable to me. But that’s okay, because my 6 rides, especially my first 3, I will remember forever.

What are your thoughts about Skyrush having new restraints? Are you happy that Skyrush has new restraints or do you miss the old restraints. I’ve never ridden this coaster but I would probably be happy than Skyrush got new restraints because it’s makes the intensity more enjoyable. I probably would have not liked it that much with the old restraints because I’m pretty sure I would have found it painful and it probably wouldn’t be my type of ride with the old restraints. But I think with the new restraints I would love it because of its airtime and raw intensity. Overall do you think Skyrush will move up in your rankings because of the new restraints or do you think it’ll move down a few spots?

I like your reviews and have commented on them before, but your commentary on this coaster makes your summary “a ride experience like no other” read like a wicked understatement. Here are some of your descriptions: “feels like it’s trying to kill you; does some violent things to your body; gray-out inducing turns and vicious laterals; treats your body like a rag doll; trying to rip your upper body from your legs; a glorious and enjoyable car accident; borderline violent ejector air time; swatted like a fly; viciously thrown; earned the name thigh crush.”
In some circles, this enjoyment is called masochism. For me personally, the words “pain,” “violent,” and “roller coaster” should never be in the same phrase. You've given fair warning to me and others who think roller coastering should be thrilling yet fun: 'turn back all ye fun seekers who are watching this.' Thanks, but no thanks to Skyrush. I'll see you at Lightning Racer.

I competely understand why this ride isn't for everyone. The crazy intensity and restraints can be too much for many. For others, it gives an experience you can't and likely will never get elsewhere.

The new restraints at night put this at my no. 1 past el toro and i305 and WCR. This could very well be the best coaster in the world, and the back left wing is the seat that tries to send you to heaven. The night rides I got single handedly shot it up 6 spots for number one

Skyrush was the first coaster that genuinely scared me. That second Stengel dive is what really scared me the first time I rode it since I had my hands up and I was thrown to the side so violently, I thought I was going to fly out of the train. It was insane. That was back in 2014 and since then, I've ridden this thing a number of times. I do have a love, hate relationship with it. I totally agree it's a back row coaster and the drop is unbelievable. I also agree it's an incredible ride and I've gained more respect for it over the years. However, I do hate the restraints on it. I wonder how it would run with Intamin's traditional hyper/giga coaster trains like Millennium Force has. I could see it being better yet not as good in different ways. I've had rides that are glass smooth and not bad with the restraints since I've learned how to ride it, but I've also had rides with a very strong rattle that's given me a bad headache after just one ride and has effectively ruined my day at the park. The wing seats in particular seem to have a worse rattle. People complain about Wildcat's roughness, but I've honestly had much rougher rides on Skyrush than I have Wildcat.
B&M's trains are so much more comfortable and I really do think the ride could be about as good with restraints more similar to them. But anyway, this coaster does seem to have it's good and not so good days.

I sat on this thing for 90 minutes during single train operation. I only missed one lap during that time because I had to pee. My lap hated me, but, later in the day, I sat on it for 5 more rides in a row. Love it. It just needs Velocicoaster restraints. With those restraints, it would bump Velocicoaster down to my #2 steel. You have probably seen that the pathway has been reopened.

My theory behind the second pop of airtime: the cable moves you fast enough that the crest is like an airtime hill, as soon as the forces from that let up you experience another strong pop of airtime from the drop.

My latest visit to Hersheypark, i only waited 3 minutes to get on the ride so i rode it again and again like 5-6 times. Honestly i feel like the restraint doesn’t matter to me on rollercoasters. Velocicoaster had painful restraints when i rode it and it’s my favorite rollercoaster. Superman at SFNE has like the most painful restraints i have ever felt and it’s my 2nd fav at the park under wicked cyclone.
