Again, I appreciated the step-by-step instructions on how to utilize the excel programming. When I first took a data & statistics class I was extremely disheartened because math has never been my favorite. However, I can appreciate that although you still teach us how to do some of the calculations by hand, the real emphasis is on being able to take the data and interpret what it means.

Not having used Excel in quite a while, this video was highly informative and to-the-point in explaining how to obtain descriptive statistics. I also enjoyed learning how to calculate scores for more than one sample.

I like how not only does this video show how to run the descriptive statistics altogether but I like how the video also explains how to find statistics on their own such as showing how to do the function for standard deviation.

This really makes it seem easy. I remember in undergrad having to do this and struggling with putting all the numbers together. With Dr. Grande explaining it and watching him compute it in Excel make sense to me. I am really liking Excel and what it is capable of doing.

I appreciate the knowledge of simply knowing how to set up the excel sheet. Often times if we don't see a tab right away (such as data analysis) we may be led to assume that one doesn't exist when in fact we were just not made aware of where to go to access it. This was very helpful in assisting us in setting up the page accurately.

This video made organizing and creating descriptive statistics seem like the simplest thing in the world. Honestly, before this class I only used Excel for creating schedules or lists, but this was amazing. I am not very good at math and knowing there is a add-on for Excel to help calculate all that information in an instant. I am definitely saving this video for the future. I think till will end up being a life-saver.

Thanks Dr. Grande for explaining each descriptive stat. Excel seems very user friendly as well, just plug in exactly what you're looking for and it is calculated. In a previous stat class we had to calculate all of the scores by hand to show we understood and then we could use a program.

I had no idea the capability Excel had in calculating statistics. I had only ever used Excel in my business courses in undergrad and understood that it was very resourceful, but was unaware that it could be used in counseling research. Excel is easily accessible and cost effective. After watching this video, I now understand a lot more about Excel and the way that I could use in my future endeavors. It will be an adjustment for me to use Excel because I am used to SPSS, but this video will make it easier.

Cassie, I too was surprised at how much you can do with excel. When I was in my undergrad I had to purchase SPSS for one of my Behavioral Science courses and If I would have known I could do all of this statistical work with excel I would have never purchased the SPSS. Excel is a great investment and very useful to have.

This is a great resource for how to run descriptive statistics in excel. I was not aware of how to make the data analysis option appear up in the window panel at the top, so that was helpful as well. From what I remember from SPSS, picking which kind of statistical test you wanted, whether it be descriptive or correlational, or simply making a histogram of the data set you are working with is similar to the excel. I really like how the descriptive table listed all of the different variables (mean, median, sum, alpha, etc.) in such an orderly and neat fashion as well.

Is this tool pack something that comes with every Excel? I wonder if it is something that you have to buy separately, or maybe it is just on newer years of Excel. Anyway, I like having step-by-step instructions. Being familiar with only basic usages of Excel myself, these new parts are a little bit beyond my scope of understanding. I like how it ends up looking once everything is put in. It is clear and concise. This all seems relatively straightforward and easy to find what you are looking for. I had also forgotten that mode is not the most useful statistic to use when the sample size is small. The steps became clear in the side by side group analysis best for me. Again a refresh in terms but mostly great to see how quick data and results can be when they are put into excel. Like most tools it becomes easier and better to understand with practice but a visual guide works best for me. Still unsure about the convince level percentage?! I do like plugging numbers in and receiving somewhat error free results.

Hi Dr, I found there are two ways of calculating 95% interval, and I have no idea which is the right one..
    1. Being what you have described, using mean +&- the Confidence Level, and you get the range between 45.449 - 54.11
    2. Mine is using (2 * Standard deviation) +&- mean, and I get the range between 25.93 and 73.93
Using your data in group 1 at 9:09,
    Please help

This video reminded me about the skew: If it's negative the tail is to the left and if it's negative the tail extends to the right. It would be helpful if a bell curve was shown to explain the skew.

I think Excel is going to be our favorite tool this semester. It makes things easier and takes much less time than doing the calculations by hand. My only concern is knowing what to insert to create the correct "formula" or "equation" for the statistics.

Rachel Foster I wonder if we are actually going to be using Excel at all, or if we are just going to learn about it as if we are going to use it. I agree that is does make things easier if you can figure out/remember how to do it in Excel! I guess we would just come back to reference these videos.

I believe you may be right about that. The program does seem to make a lot of complex material easy to utilize quickly. However I know for myself, because I am not advanced on my knowledge of using Excel, I would need to use the tools described in the video for myself before I would be able to truly comprehend some of the concepts.

Rachel Foster Again, I couldn't agree more that Excel will become a favorite tool. It absolutely reduces the time and error of calculating formulas by hand. I also am concerned about remembering all of these formulas, however, at least I know I can reference these videos.

Rachel Foster I also think that Excel is a great tool to use and it makes doing calculations much easier than doing it by hand! I share that concern with you about knowing what to insert and doing it properly can pose a problem for me. If I make one mistake in computing the numbers it could throw the hole formula and equation off, so will need to be very aware.

This video makes calculating stats look so easy. I will use this as a resource because I will not remember how/what to change. It was good to know that the skewness as well as the kurtosis should be close to "0" in a standard normal distribution.

Michelle Robinson Excel makes it look so easy, but I was glad Dr. Grande showed how to create the function. It was easy to set this tool up on my ribbon and I could see this being beneficial in the future. I liked how two items can be compared to each other side by side.

Very informative video, the one term I do not recall learning is kurtosis. I like the instructions on how to set up the table for your descriptive data analyses. I also like the information about sample size, as sample size increases standard error of mean deceases, which explains the importance of sample size.

      @aliciazahn1718 9 років тому

Regina Ames I, too, found it helpful to go over the sample size and standard error and how they affect one another. It makes sense once you hear it but it is not something that just automatically comes to mind, no matter how many stats classes one has to take.

I learned standard error and standard deviation cannot be used interchangeably. If I understood correctly, standard error is the likelihood that something is to be from the mean, and standard deviation is how far something is dispersed from the mean.
