Demeco Ryan has transformed that Texans’ defense into a top ten defense as well. At least in the top fifteen. Stroud playing very good promising football
And Demeco isn't done yet. He knows the kind of pieces he needs to make the defense to excel with. He's fortunate enough to end up with strong secondary talent with the Texans so he's looking for help in the defensive trenches in the future.

Crazy that a #2 overall pick from Ohio State is doing so well and somehow not as many people are talking about him because of what Brock Purdy is doing. I’m a lifelong 49ers fan and HUGE Purdy supporter, but Stroud deserves just as much praise and airtime. What he’s doing is nuts.
Everyone is already talking about cj. He has broken a record and is putting more space on it, and is on par to break almost every rookie passing record.
Not when compared to Purdy though. The dude is Mr. Irrelevant. It was clear after last season that he was going to continue that dominance. He threw some beautiful passes to B. Ayuke that you don't see from most QB's. I didn't understand all the hype for Hurts and Burrow when this dude was clearly better on every level, under any pressure and on the biggest stages yet everyone had Burrow at #2 😂 BS, Mr. Irrelevant is the #2 QB of the league
As a Panthers fan when panthers traded up to #1 all that could be talked about were the three QBs. AR looking like Cam 2.0. Bryce having elite anticipation. And Stroud having the typical QB form and good arm power. But everyone was like "Young is an elite processor. Stroud you may have to worry about. Just dont know being an ohio guy" Well... now we know. Now we definitely know.
You rightfully highlight his anticipation and poise. However, a more complete answer to the question of why he is the runaway rookie of the year contender would also have addressed a) his accuracy, and b) the fact that he is accomplishing all this with an inexperienced receiving corps while missing FOUR starters on the O-Line.
The receiver group may not be great but in comparison to other teams with 'bad' receiver groups, they still have traits that pressure the secondary. Collins is tall, has a nice catch radius and can routes well enough that if he hauls the catch down he's getting YAC (as he's one of the leaders in that category). Dell of course is the vertical speedster so as you saw in the video, if CJ knows he's gonna win he will find him downfield. The Panthers have it worse because none of their guys can separate OR have the hands (other than Thielen) to win in a mismatch.
this is the diff between young and CJ. CJ is a true leader, as a rookie team captain the whole team believes in him and fights for him. Bryce teammates wont even help him up when he gets sacked, its sad his team dont believe in him, he seems very soft spoken and lacks charisma
That release looks impressive. I haven’t seen a number on him but I’m guessing he’s mid-0.3s. And he certainly has a very good arm as well. I’m thinking that people have underestimated Stroud’s arm numbers overall. (I just watched the beginning of his combine. He was clocked at 59 MPH - I think the average is 55 so Stroud has a very good arm. But ball speed and spiral are really only the two factors that matter and they will tell you how far a QB can throw. For comparisons Hurts and Dak I believe were clocked at 55 at their combines.)

If ya'll actually watched his Ohio State tape this was easy to see that he was the best QB prospect of his class. CJ Stroud even played better in big games (Rose Bowl & Peach Bowl). People saying that he's a better athlete now clearly didn't watch the Georgia game. Sometimes evaluators just need to trust what they see and not be persuaded by who is hyped to be the #1 guy.
Here in Columbus ohio we always knew cj was the truth. He has the talent to over come weakness like his beat up oline. He showed the world that against Georgia. Nfl scouts are idiots
Shower-thoughts: Would you rather have CJ Stroud or Brock Purdy if you're a 49ers fan? Hmmm... Anyway, the Texans have been an awesome AFC team to watch this season just because Stroud is keeping the Texans competitive in games as a rookie under a first-time HC, and OC. He looks like Drew Brees out there. Remarkable!!!
Still have high hopes for Fields But have to say I'm gutted for @chicago. Both times we passed on top QBs (Mahomes/Watson) and (CJ) when we had the pick/chance...
At 9:20 I think the design's intent is for the TE to be successful in that block. The thing I'm not sure of is if it was designed with a low block to occupy the defenders hands trying to avoid the block giving Stroud a lane to throw or if it is supposed to be standing up and trying to guide the defender back and past Stroud to clear that lane. In writing this, I think the thought process is to find a way to open up a lane that Stroud can throw through.
The Panthers played themselves. I thought for sure Stroud was going number 1, couldn't believe Carolina took a sub 200lb guy to play QB in the nfl. Wild shit
He said himself, he's a ball placement specialist. That means he has to be able to read the defense to PLACE the ball where it needs to be. This is a Tom Brady / Joe Burrow kind of QB. No flashy runs... plenty of energy to carry a full season and minimal chance for injury. Can't wait till that O-line is fully healthy. He'll be able to jedi all those defenses at will.
I knew, 100%, that the Texans were going to be better off without that #1 pick. The #1 overall never works out the way it's planned to, and especially when there's QB's going first
I don't know man I think it's his ball placement that is really impressing me.. had a very brady-esque feel to it.. amazingly accurate but also catchable
A question about the Texans how they will do their center and guard positions? They drafted two centers, Juice Scruggs high and Jarrett Patterson later. Right now Patterson is the center as Scruggs is hurt. When Scruggs return, how will Houston address the center and guard positions. Will they start them both?
Having that elite speed to be a vertical threat helps threaten the top so CJ can punish teams who don't respect the potential mismatch. Meanwhile the Pats receiver groups got zero speed on the boundaries (anywhere really) and defenses can sit on Mac Jones playing cover 1 all day. Its like the opposite of Mahomes where he probably sees the most cover 2 and he still can punish defenses doing it.
Saw the Texans first game to open the season and to me they just did not look good. Didn't think they would win more than 2 games but I'm glad I was wrong. Stroud looks impressive along with the rest of team. Keep in mind I think the offensive line has been banged up since week 1 also.
CJ is definitely in the running, but i wouldnt say he is the runaway fave to win ROY. Puka Nacua is having a nice start too. lets see how everyone finishes the season
@@kickthecat75 you acting like Puka hasnt broken records receiving. theres a difference between front runner and runaway. again, its too earlier to call anything about the season.
What Kyle Shanahan is doing with his scheme and tree needs to be studied. Aside from McVay who’s already won a bowl, McDaniel has transformed the Dolphins into a powerhouse and Bobby Slowik who was the 49ers passing game coordinator has made it perfect for Stroud who has made the most of it.
Scheme is scheme. Play calling goes beyond scheme which is also adapting to the defense and play sequencing. There are many guys from the OZ coaching tree who sadly aren't great with those skills I mentioned. Also talents help elevate schemes more to what they can be. Just look at the CMC when he got the Niners and how different their offense is from recent years. The ideal scenario/plan for the Texans offense year 1 was to sorta look like the 2018 Rams where Pierce was going to do the heavy lifting. Sadly that hasn't been the case since the O-line has been injured. Instead Stroud for 6 weeks has answered elevating the offense by himself.
3:20 stroud called that play himself just based on what he saw during the game. They didnt have a fleshed out play for it so he just described to shultz what he meant as well as he could until he understood.
I really hope that Houston doesn't take their time building around the amazing and fresh offensive talent they have with stroud, nico collins, tank dell, etc.. this could be a super team if they build it right. dynasty level 👍
DCs think they can just blitz him and think that it will rattle him just because he's a rookie. Think again. He's calm and collected in the face of the rush. Is good at getting rid of the ball when he gets in trouble and doesn't put his eyes down.
Im extremely surprised being that he came out of Ohio State, I don’t think we’ve had a quarterback do well in the NFL yet. Because the wide receivers are so good at OSU, a quarterback doesn’t need to be accurate to do well there.
As an Ohio State fan.. I will admit, I thought he would have been better off if he returned for his senior year. Most Ohio State QB’s that go to the league.. usually bust because they went after the money before they were ready. I think Fields has potential to do just as well as Stroud but he’s on a hot mess of a team and the Bears suck.. and their coaching sucks and they can’t build a consistent system built to highlight Fields strengths. Fields definitely needed to come back for his last year at OSU though. Hopefully the Texans don’t do Stroud dirty like the Bears have let Fields down.

ive been watching this kid since college football. he's always been great! i was there for his first td as a second string under justin fields
This is a Rookie doing all this. Imagine what he's going to be doing in a few more years!
Great as always. Thanks.
Chiefs fan here. CJ Stroud looks great. Since the Chiefs already played this week, I might watch the Texans game on Sunday.
came back to this vid after that playoff performance
Love the breakdown! Man you watch a lot of film. Thanks Alex!!
8:13 when you show the back angle for the all 22 you see the moment. His brain reads he won’t make it then steps into the throw immediately
Here in Columbus ohio we always knew cj was the truth. He has the talent to over come weakness like his beat up oline. He showed the world that against Georgia. Nfl scouts are idiots
In lovie smith we trust. He knew what he was doing
Let’s go Stroud. I don’t think anyone was expecting this given his situation, but so glad he’s playing well!
Great great vid brotha ❤️. The Bryce young Vid gonna hit like crack in the 80s tho.
Texans has found a lot of good QBs in recent years
true lowkey texans draft really good since andre johnson, jj watt, demeco, brian cushing, arian foster etc
Look honey, Alex dropped‼️🗣
Still have high hopes for Fields But have to say I'm gutted for @chicago. Both times we passed on top QBs (Mahomes/Watson) and (CJ) when we had the pick/chance...
Your team would’ve ruined both Watson and Mahomes. Well, watson ruined himself off the field.
What does fields have 2 to out this video
At 9:20 I think the design's intent is for the TE to be successful in that block. The thing I'm not sure of is if it was designed with a low block to occupy the defenders hands trying to avoid the block giving Stroud a lane to throw or if it is supposed to be standing up and trying to guide the defender back and past Stroud to clear that lane. In writing this, I think the thought process is to find a way to open up a lane that Stroud can throw through.
Stroud really reminds me of Tua when he plays. Same levels of anticipation.
The #1 overall never works out the way it's planned to, and especially when there's QB's going first
Stroud came in humble and strong. He's easy to pull for.
Texans are still a very young team. Still learning and will get better as the year goes on. The offense lacked last week but theyll boynce back.
Bobby Slowick lacked last week. he refused to go away from the run game that was leaving the offense 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 9 all day long.
@jakewoodisgood1 he's still a rookie himself bro. They'll get better together.
@@cristianmunoz2480 that came off a little more negative than I meant it. Slowick overall has done a great job this year
I don't know man I think it's his ball placement that is really impressing me.. had a very brady-esque feel to it.. amazingly accurate but also catchable
Respect Achane
Hes out 3-4 weeks. Hard to win if stroud stays healthy all season or puka. Dont be a stan and think logically
I'm so happy for him
Say what you want about the Texans, but they know how to pick a qb
A question about the Texans how they will do their center and guard positions?
They drafted two centers, Juice Scruggs high and Jarrett Patterson later.
Right now Patterson is the center as Scruggs is hurt.
When Scruggs return, how will Houston address the center and guard positions.
Will they start them both?
If Achane gets back fast and can continue his pace it will be a close race
na, Puka nakua maybe, but Stroud is running away with this thing
He made Tank Dell look like a WR1
Give him OROY now
hey don’t disrespect tank now.
I’m so sick my panthers did not draft him over Bryce. I wanted him badly.
CJ is definitely in the running, but i wouldnt say he is the runaway fave to win ROY. Puka Nacua is having a nice start too. lets see how everyone finishes the season
And Jalen Carter
@@jackpabich763Different award category
A QB that has already broken records is going to be the front runner for ROY over a receiver.
@@kickthecat75 you acting like Puka hasnt broken records receiving. theres a difference between front runner and runaway. again, its too earlier to call anything about the season.
Now this won’t happen, but of puka were to keep this up, he wouldn’t just break rookie records. Safe to say he’s winning roy then
What Kyle Shanahan is doing with his scheme and tree needs to be studied.
@@t4d0Wgreat point with play calling
I’ll come back to this comment after he plays out Saints defense
@@duhh4641 didn't play well at all but GOT THE W what now fool?
Headline in October! Why not name the title why’s he’s Carving defenses up! ❤ hah
I HATE David Tepper. Of course our new HC is set on Stroud but gets overruled by the know it all owner.
I’m happy for HC Demico Ryans. He’s got his quarterback. He was our (49ers) defensive coordinator before getting the head coaching job.
Jake Moody has entered the chat
Devon achane could steal it
Like he said, he’s a football player, not a test taker.
Can you call back an interception that was fumbled by the defender who intercepted it?😂😂
Cries in Puka
Im extremely surprised being that he came out of Ohio State, I don’t think we’ve had a quarterback do well in the NFL yet. Because the wide receivers are so good at OSU, a quarterback doesn’t need to be accurate to do well there.
I think w kupp being back in the line up, i do think cj gonna win it
Matt Schaub was a Texan for 7 yrs. Texans leading passer in the franchise
I’m a ball player not an test taker - Cj Goat Stroud
He will be the most succesful of the qbs in houston
Brock Purdy
He is not a rookie
As an Ohio State fan.. I will admit, I thought he would have been better off if he returned for his senior year. Most Ohio State QB’s that go to the league.. usually bust because they went after the money before they were ready. I think Fields has potential to do just as well as Stroud but he’s on a hot mess of a team and the Bears suck.. and their coaching sucks and they can’t build a consistent system built to highlight Fields strengths. Fields definitely needed to come back for his last year at OSU though. Hopefully the Texans don’t do Stroud dirty like the Bears have let Fields down.
I heard on the Rich Eisen show the Miami Dolphins RB had it wrapped up
RB position is SIGNIFICANTLY easier, especially in the dolphins system, over the QB position.
He’s also a self proclaimed Michigan guy, and admits his bias against CJ in one of his most recent videos about the rookie QB’s.
Hes just not a complete freak of nature but he has a great build for quarterback
Carolina's kicking themselves right about.....5 weeks ago
Not to sound harsh, but isn't this what Purdy is doing but he got great players around him & dnt have a giant arm?
The Jets always seem to have his number. Year 1 they crushed him. Now Year 2 kid gloves are off: *8* *sacks* in one game 😅 #UptownBaby #JetsFanFromFiji ☦️✨🌴🕊🇫🇯🥊⚡🗻
If he can torch the saints defense then that will prove himself
The front office of the Carolina Panthers should be fired. Bryce Young did not have the size or arm strength to warrant a #1 pick, especially after giving up so much future draft capital to move up.
I called it. Everybody was on BY’s d***. CJ looked clean
watches film for one minute *turns on madden*
I was upset when we gave up so much draft capital for a weak side DE. But ya know, when you hit big on the QB pick, it almost fixes everything.
5th best block win rate and 4th most QB hurries last i checked. he will be deadly when he learns how to close on those sacks
** Saints whole starting defense walks up with smoke creeping from the floor in the background **
We’ll see bout that🙁..
Take the L provided by cj stroud 😂
Sounds like CJ is the next Brock Purdy
