Thanks for this deeper dive into tennis video games. As a long time fan of tennis games, I appreciate seeing the history and progression of tennis games throughout the years. I just had a few thoughts from watching. It would have been nice to have a brief overview of the various Smash Court games (as those were my favorites on PS1/PS2), as well as looking at the first three games leading up to Top Spin 4. I know you briefly mentioned them, but it felt like you jumped from the 90s games straight to Top Spin 4, and there were a number of decent tennis games in between that time that didn't get mentioned. Also, I don’t believe you gave mention of Tennis Elbow or Full Ace Tennis for PC. While not licensed with real players (unless installing patches) they are full-fledged tennis games (that many people think are the best playing tennis games available) that I think deserve mention.
Lastly, I strongly disagree that Matchpoint is the best of the current gen tennis games. While fun and arcadey, I find there to be no strategy or any simulation feel to the game. Just the same back and forth, fast forehands and backhands, over and over. No precise aiming shots, no variation of shot types, no real balance. Tennis World Tour 2 for PS5 is much better in my opinion. It is definitely a super rough game and far from perfect, but actually gives the ability to hit both realistically strong shots as well as precisely aimed/timed shots. Not just the same fast speed over and over like in Matchpoint.
All that being said, great video, and hope to see more coverage on tennis games going forward.

Nice man! Thanks for sharing- glad to see there is some passion out here for a definitely tennis game. You’re not the first person to mention they like TWT2 better than Matchpoint, so it’s good to see some folks enjoy it.
Also good shout out on the Tennis Elbow/Full Ace series on PC- I’ve only briefly played Tennis Elbow so I’m not qualified to comment on either really, but they deserve a shout here. Thanks for watching!

@@obscuristgaming Yea, it came out on the Xbox 360 and PSP. But strangely not on the PS3.

Great video. I just can’t buy match point and waste another dollar. I am glad PS had a demo. I am tired of 1 step forward 10 steps back from the sequels of World tour to AO tennis to match point. I thought someone was crazy to say virtual tennis 4 look better than these new era trash. But they were right at least in detail models and animations.
I also heard about hangers 13 bringing back virtual tennis 4. Please do so since I am tired of these feature less AA studios charging $60 for a $20 games. I was thirsty and desperate to buy these games every yr. I did trade at least 2-3 back at Best Buy. But of course non of these games are worth a damn.
Don’t sleep on smash court tennis pro tournament 2. I need a AAA dev to make a great tennis game and put Bigben or big ant out of commission.
I need a big number of old and new licensed tennis players with a great presentation, doubles. challenge calls and deep single player mode. I would love in single player to have post game interviews, deep customization etc. I would pay $70 for that and be happy with roster updates and robust online component.

Right there with ya. It’s been over a decade since we got a true AAA tennis experience… like that’s just insane.
I REALLY hope the top spin 5 rumors are true.

@@obscuristgaming I thought it was just a remake of top spin 4 rumor? I meant to say too spin 4 not virtual tennis.

How did top spin 4 figure it out more than a decade ago then everyone suddenly forgot how to make tennis games anymore.

It’s frustrating… we’re so overdue for a proper new tennis game. Idc if it’s more arcade or sim style, but as long as it’s competent and fun! I feel like that’s not asking too much.
