What's even more amazing than the hail mary was the fact that Westercamp was able to survive being buried under an avalanche of 30 or 40 players piled on top of him...lol
See Coach Jam on the periphery...looks like he's joining the fray initially...he's just trying to see if Westy's still alive! My son's 1st road game was Missouri, '97! After Kellogg to Westerkamp, he was pounding me, again, in our South Stadium seats! ...Another Blessed Day...Another Blessed Play...And Another GREAT CALL that I will never forget! GBR!!!
One of those moments that you will remember forever. I was standing in my living room just staring at the TV with my mouth wide open, completely still and not talking for like 5 minutes. Couldn't believe it.
If the team wins the Big 10 and makes a run at the four team playoff this will be remembered as the game that saved Pelini's job. If they had lost that game the team may well have tanked the rest of the way.
I remember watching this with my Dad and we always mute the T.V. and turn on the radio because we both can't stand the T.V. announcing crews during Nebraska games. There's like a 2 second delay between the T.V. and radio so you hear the play before you see it lol. So when we heard the call we both got on the edge of our seats and then jumped in the air when we saw the play.
I just remember switching back over to the game because I was so nervous and tense and I just remember Gregg Sharpe going completely nuts on the Radio! It was one of the best Husker memories I've ever had!
Northwestern deserved it. Wish we had Bo back.. Frosty Outta hire him back as the D-Head coach again....THEN, He could concentrate on the offense, KNOWING that BO has some REAL GRINDERZ Playin D . Whatta HOOT that'd be...
I loved this game! Our injuries were off the charts just dropping like flies. One thing I do remember after watching this was Matt's exact words, "Don't leave early! Don't leave early!!" Well, when we played MSU several years ago, late 4th quarter people were leaving. I tried telling people...don't leave early! They did...and missed out on a spectacular moment! That game will go down as one of my favorites of all time. #GBR
Kinda lousy that we were even behind in this game but here is my story! I got off work I think during half time. I had to go up to Cheyenne Wyoming to see my brother so I was listening to this on the Radio. It was one of those games where I would quickly change it to another station then go back to listen to it for another 30 seconds. I WAS SO TENSE!! If anybody from Nebraska has driven up to Wyoming before, there is an intersection that you have to stay in the right lane to go to Wyoming and if you stay in the left lane you go to Colorado. Well wouldnt you know it, when Kellogg threw up that pass and Westerkamp caught it, I was going completely BERSERK!!!!! 45 minutes later I'm wondering how the hell I got to Colorado!! Signs saying i'm headed to Denver and what not! Hah! I didn't care though, I stopped in Julesburg Colorado to reset myself and finished out the interviews while basking in Glory from that crazy win! It was nuts you guys!
How exciting would it be if Nebraska was still in the Big 12 and did this against Oklahoma? THAT would be huge. 2 long-storied rivals and it comes down to a Hail Mary. I bet Ron Kellogg and Jordan Westerkamp would be household names nationwide.
On the television replay you can almost see my head ...we watched that pass coming right us and watched it bounce off a NW player and into Westercamps hands . From our seats you couldn’t tell if he caught it in the end zone. We had plenty of room to jump around because several “fans” around us had already left. Nobody could believe it!
I am a husker fan, but I say to those who are being nasty, there is no reason for that. You know we would be heartbroken too if that happened to us. Have some compassion. Enjoy the win, but don't rub it in anyone's nose!
The 2015 season was a joke thanks to Riley. Glad to see the 2016 season is doing well, ignoring the fact that the blackshirts went out to lunch on the 3rd game
An incredible ending but we shouldn't have ever been behind a 5-7 Northwestern team (1-7 in conference) in Lincoln in the first place. Props to the team for fighting back when most thought all hope was lost. Glad the team is under new leadership now.
I lived in Lincoln from 2013 to 2016, and having heard Nebraska fans, and watched their games, I can be honest and say this-Nebraska is simply not the powerhouse that it once was. You no longer have Tommie Frazier, Lawrence Phillips, etc. at Memorial Stadium and Tom Osborne is not patrolling the sidelines. Didn't Nebraska say they didn't want to move to the Big 10 because the competition wouldn't be as good, only to see Wisconsin run up 70 on them in their only conference championship game appearance? They are an average to slightly above average team. It will be a long, long time before they are national championship worthy again. I had to say it.
I was on the phone with my brother watching this game. I was telling him, "You never know. We could get Westerkamp deep. There's still time. This ain't over." And boom, Westy hauls in the tipped pass for the win. Still laugh every time I think of this. One of my favorite Husker memories.
When Jordan caught that ball me and my dad ran out side screaming GO HUSKERS. Our neighbors are Hawkeye fans so they where probably watching because they played after us
Ty Roth Henery's field goal wasn't from 63 but still another awesome moment in Lincoln. I was sadly in Hawaii that day... :'( haha I love how Greg Sharpe and Matt Davison were chastising the people that left early. Serves you right.
This Is ONE FOR THE AGES!! IT"S NORTHWESTERN WEEK!! HERE"S WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME THE WILDCATS WERE IN LINCOLN!! I"M SURE NEBRASKA FANS AND NORTHWESTERN FANS HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN!!, the dj
This is only food for thought: In 2000, Nebraska dismantled Northwestern 66-17 in the Alamo Bowl. Since joining the Big 10, Nebraska has lost at home to NU, needed 2 TD's in the last 3 minutes to win in Evanston, and a Hail Mary to win the following year against one of the most disappointing teams of 2013. I still get chills every time I watch this, but have our expectations of Nebraska football fallen this far down the line? 2014 is a make-or-break year for Bo.
You can argue that Northwestern is a much better team today than 14 years ago. And it is not just them, its most all other teams that have a strong fan/financial base now have the resources, trainers, facilities, and technology to play with the big boys. College Football use to be a very top heavy sport with the few titans and the rest being weaklings. As more and more money is pumped into each University, they keep reinvesting that money into more seats, facilities, events, clubs, etc, which all makes them more money and gains them more top recruits and then you have a snowball effect. It does not take long for them to catch up with the royalty programs which use to swoon all the good recruits with the best facilities and training. Also the field of high quality players has been getting bigger with each passing year. Which is not only the result of population growth, but of High Schools also getting better at training and conditioning players for the college level. The more studs there are to choose from, the more that schools like NW get quality recruits that it would have never received in the 80s and 90s.
So, Husker Nation, with 45 days 2go, psyche up, and back this team and staff with fervor, no matter the odds, and let's help to create a FANtastic 2014 Season! GBR!!!
It was definitely memorable, but are you too young to remember Schlesinger's TDs vs Miami in the '95 Orange Bowl? Or Tommie's sensational 75 yd td in the '96 Fiesta. IMO those are better, much more meaningful plays in Nebraska history.
Travis Kale ...sooo many Blessed Plays in our history...let alone recent...Alex/57, "The'Nice Catch, Matt'"'97, Haags' OT end zone INT. in Ames/'10, Johnny's '71 run/Norman, that string of "Win Out", come from behind wins in '12. I gratefully witnessed all of 'em in the 1st. I go back 2 more generations of Dad & Grandma relaying their stories of Husker lore. How great is this, our fans connection to our Husker Tradition! GBR!!!
Travis Kale you just made me feel really relatively old that 1995 = dated. LOL I was in early high school then. Realized today that hardly any of current students even remember before 2005.
This one loudmouth Husker fan that was yelling the whole game left with about 5 minutes to go in the game. Felt bad, best and only game I've ever been to.
I think what's lost in the commotion is the fact that Westerkamp had caught the ball but his momentum was starting to carry him OUT of the end zone. If not for the wildcat player #2 grabbing Westerkamps legs and pinning him down inside the endzone, I'm not sure this gets called a TD. I believe 1 foot has to touch down, unless the ruling is that his catch "broke the plane" of the goal. It did, it counted and went into history as a score. Regardless~~ Go Big Red.
And none of this matters since Bo got his contract extension....but NW should be 3-0 against NU since we joined the Big 10 (Plus 4 as of 07/01/14)...and that is the point I was making. If NU is struggling to beat NW, how are they going to compete with MSU, OSU, UM, or WIS for Big Ten championships? I was at the game in Evanston...You'd thought NU had won the Orange Bowl or the NC with the way the fans reacted...and NW still had a chance to win the game with a FG at the end. It was the only FG that kicker missed in 2012. Say what you will about different eras, but it's not like I'm comparing 1984 Big Red to 2014 Big Red....or even 2000 Big Red. There should be no reason at all a private school like NW should be on the same field as NU...NU has been out played and out coached...with 2 of those games being played in Lincoln....and that can not continue to be the case if Nebraska wants to be considered "back".
9 years later and still gives me goosebumps. Couldn't believe it when i saw it live.
"Honey it's been over a year. Stop letting that Hail Mary against Northwestern bother you."
"It's gonna be reviewed..."
Hahaha
What's even more amazing than the hail mary was the fact that Westercamp was able to survive being buried under an avalanche of 30 or 40 players piled on top of him...lol

I was there with my dad in the south stands straight up where my family has had season tickets since the 50s and I was crying tears of joy
I broke my hand when I saw the play lol. There was a fan that was on above me.
a fan hitting a fan
I screamed so loud watching this live I lost my voice. GO HUSKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I stood there at the tv with my mouth wide open in shock...helluva game...GBR
Willie Wilkins same here lol
One of those moments that you will remember forever. I was standing in my living room just staring at the TV with my mouth wide open, completely still and not talking for like 5 minutes. Couldn't believe it.

I did the opposite, I screamed! It was awesome!
Historical Husker Media is my dad!😊
I remember watching this with my Dad and we always mute the T.V. and turn on the radio because we both can't stand the T.V. announcing crews during Nebraska games. Me and my dad do the same thing
With DVR, you can pause the tv for 2 seconds to fix it
I just remember switching back over to the game because I was so nervous and tense and I just remember Gregg Sharpe going completely nuts on the Radio!
Funny seeing you here

The best is when you see #44 for NW fall down when he sees the play
Looked like he got sniped. Poor guy
This was my first Husker game, was in row 70 in south stadium. It was nuts, my second Husker game was the McNeese State game
I was at that hail mary game with my dad when I was in 3rd grade. We went crazy
I was at that game and the crowd went NUTS. It was awesome. I will never forget it.
Kinda lousy that we were even behind in this game but here is my story! I got off work I think during half time. +sshelget Well, now it has happened to us. But at least BYU isn't rubbing our noses in it.
The 2015 season was a joke thanks to Riley.

awesome that catch was like a miracle seen it live gbr
Anyone else get goosebumps still
...and tears of ABSOLUTE JOY!!! YEAH, 'ma Man! GBR!
4 years later...
Yes
Every. Time.
An incredible ending but we shouldn't have ever been behind a 5-7 Northwestern team (1-7 in conference) in Lincoln in the first place. Props to the team for fighting back when most thought all hope was lost. Glad the team is under new leadership now.
+TheAlmightyApe Yeah. Davison also was lying when he said this was a "well played football game." It really wasn't, by either team.
I lived in Lincoln from 2013 to 2016, and having heard Nebraska fans, and watched their games, I can be honest and say this-Nebraska is simply not the powerhouse that it once was. Still happy about the new leadership?
foREVerZ28 it's a sad state of affairs for this team right now.
Duane Barrett not anymore😉
But don't forget Abdullah's amazing catch and run breaking three tackles on 4th down to keep the drive going.
Guy who caught that balled earned his #1 shirt. #44 on NW just died when that ball was caught 0:19
#HailMary #HellYeah
What a difference in emotions from 2 different sets of announcers.
I was on the phone with my brother watching this game. I was telling him, "You never know. We could get Westerkamp deep. There's still time. This ain't over." And boom, Westy hauls in the tipped pass for the win. Still laugh every time I think of this. One of my favorite Husker memories.
I can say I was at this game. Don't remember much, but I was definitely at this game.
I was there. Absolutely deafening in that stadium
When Jordan caught that ball me and my dad ran out side screaming GO HUSKERS. Our neighbors are Hawkeye fans so they where probably watching because they played after us
"OH my goodness oh my goodness!"
I was at the game when henery kicked the 63 yard field goal and the crowd went CRAZY but this was amazingly the loudest i had ever heard the crowd
Ty Roth Henery's field goal wasn't from 63 but still another awesome moment in Lincoln. I was sadly in Hawaii that day... :'( haha
I love how Greg Sharpe and Matt Davison were chastising the people that left early. Serves you right.
57yds...but who's counting? 😜
This Is ONE FOR THE AGES!! IT"S NORTHWESTERN WEEK!! HERE"S WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME THE WILDCATS WERE IN LINCOLN!! I"M SURE NEBRASKA FANS AND NORTHWESTERN FANS HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN!!, the dj
That was definitely a legit touchdown for Nebraska, as Westerkamp was in the endzone before catching the deflected pass.
And both feet came down in the end zone after the catch.
i was at this game and holy crap it was a great game

Davison knows a little something about catching a...I guess it was a hail mary? Sure was a miracle, that's for sure.
I saw it live
Remember my dad told me the game was over then this happened
"Gotta be reviewed. Gotta be reviewed." Right. (Only if you are totally blind.)
Dave Eanet had the call on WGN Radio.
I think what's lost in the commotion is the fact that Westerkamp had caught the ball but his momentum was starting to carry him OUT of the end zone. +313curt As long as he lands inbounds, and the ball crossed the plane of the endzone, it is a touchdown.
6 northwestern fans disliked this
Look at the guy in the background for northwestern it looks like he got shot
His heart just stopped. He's done
David Voss, diff teams, diff coaches, diff times. It is 2014, not 2000. This NW squad was 1 of only two b1g teams to win their bowl game
NW didn't make a bowl game last season
And none of this matters since Bo got his contract extension....but NW should be 3-0 against NU since we joined the Big 10 (Plus 4 as of 07/01/14)...and that is the point I was making. If NU is struggling to beat NW, how are they going to compete with MSU, OSU, UM, or WIS for Big Ten championships?

samuelson6511 Good call...NU and MSU were the only ones to win their bowl games last season.
Last year? Nebraska and Michigan State won their bowl games... NW didn't even qualify for a bowl game. Or are you talking about 2 years ago?
that would have been a nfl td as well
Why? Does NFL have different criteria for receiving the ball?
The kids BOlieve!
Just....Don't
To bad Bo got sacked
Great ending, but the radio call pales in comparison to "MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD"....
