- Scotland’s First Minister kicked off a campaign for a second independence referendum.
Publishing the first in a series of papers that will form a prospectus for an independent Scotland, the First Minister said there was an “indisputable” mandate for another vote after a majority of independence-supporting MSPs were returned in last year’s Holyrood elections.

England is entitled to pursue independence, although there does not appear to be the appetite for it. If you want to start an English independence campaign, go for it. However, you might want to bear in mind the Scottish independence movement is over 300 years old. You might have a bit of work to do.
The SNP intend to go cap in hand to the EU and beg for membership then beg for money, there is no other plan.

For example - if the referendum vote were open to all Scottish born citizens then the overwhelming majority of Scottish born citizens living outside Scotland would not vote for Independence.

@@Gartly Hi - if a persons Nationality is defined by a referendum then the person should have a say in the referendum. In this case the change of Nationality would be from UK to Scottish.

Clare Muldoon lives in England and so has no say. The SNP are not racist - some of the strongest nationalists were born in the South of England. They support Scottish independence not because they hate their fellow English but because they hate the Westminster system that treats them with contempt : treats with contempt not just the Scots but also most of those in the English regions. They hated the English class system that allows 7% of the English population that went to public school to run everything - unjustly promoting these people and this class way above their ability and causing the whole country to stagnate with opportunities to advance themselves perpetually stifled by this selfish self perpetuating class.

I've just come back from Lossiemouth for a weeks holiday. It's so beautiful and has a proud heritage; the people are genuinely friendly and love the English as we do them. We visited Lochness and Inverness, two iconic places I would urge anyone to visit within their lifetime. Nicola sturgeon is a bully and she - in my view is just Hitler reincarnate.

So logically, if she gets what she wants, it'll be because that's what the majority wants. That's how democracy works.
If she succeeded with her one and only policy and got independence for Scotland, how is her government going to carry on paying for free prescriptions and university fees, not to mention her health service and armed forces. Going beyond independence, I don't think she's really thought it through.
They will carry on by using the same mechanism they currently have, ie, higher taxes. Up here we pay more tax and get more benefits back as a result , moreover, we are happy to do so as long as we see the benefits, unlike our friends down south who cannot see beyond the end of their noses, want to pay less tax, expect more services, and voted for a lazy good for nothing buffoon.

So please don't hold back, let us know what value Scotland currently is to the rest of the UK. Don't forget, though, that fossil fuels are off the table. We can redeploy our nuclear deterent and RAF bases, at a cost which will probably be less than the amount given to Scotland by the Treasury over a couple of years.
Sturgeon argues relentlessly that Scotland was DRAGGED OUT OF THE EU. She forgets that before leaving the EU she would have DRAGGED SCOTLAND out of the EU by winning an Independence vote.

I may be a bit thick on the subject but I don't understand how snp can call it independence but want to rejoin eu. Even if eu would let them join which is unlikely due to the financial implications in leaving uk, Scotland would have less power on domestic decision making than they do now. Eu is pushing for more control over the individual countries in relation to currency, trade rules, law, policies etc Scotland would become a weak eu member with no power or say so, likely being supported by the IMF and having to abide by rules and regulations decided by non elected officials in Brussels. It would be a sorry state for a country with such a rich history.

Absoulte tosh. If a Brexit referendum can be done to seperate the UK from the EU with a Conservative vote share of under 40% then Scotland can have its referendum with a near 50% SNP vote share. Also, if you understood Scottish elections which uses the D'Hondt system of PR you would be aware that this voting system is designed to NOT allow a majority in the Scottish Parliament but to promote 'rainbow' coalitions. So before talking nonsense do a bit of research. Brexit Referendum was carried out by a Tory government with barely one-third of the vote share, so if thats the rules we play by then the SNP have a MASSIVE majority by contrast to hold a referendum. And also, somehow every other country in the world can be independent but Scotland cant??? Seriously?? lol. Also, if we were a drain on UK public resources and Scotland couldnt survive on our own - why not then encourage a referendum to get rid of Scotland as we must be costing the treasury a bunch of money??? You can't have a licence for something that is illegal. Nor can you have a mandate for a course of action your not permitted to do. The SNP should not be making promises they are unable to deliver. As for an independent Scotland she has already admitted a hard border will be necessary. But its even worse than that. Even if Scotland was in the EU that hard border would remain. The reason because all future EU members are deliberately excluded from the trade agreement the UK reached with the EU. So full customs checks, full WTO tariffs et al would be applied to over 60% of their current trade. Which by the way would probably plummet if they were able to leave the UK. All of this is secondary to the basic facts. Scotland is part of the UK and belongs to every British citizen not just 2% of them.

The voting numbers were dismally low regarding the vote for or against Brexit, whereas the turnout re Independance was an all time high. Sturgeon needs to concentrate on doing what she’s paid to do. She hasn’t so far.

As for the daft question "How the hell is Scotland going to stand on its own?", the list of countries that stand on their own two feet, just in Europe, include Malta, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Monetenegro and Norway.
I have only listed countries with a population of about five million or less....
