- 'Act Your Age' could have been the best episode in Phineas and Ferb's history. But its huge potential, unfortunately, all went to waste and we never got a satisfying conclusion to Phineas and Isabella's romantic arc. What's worse, now that the revival is coming, all the interactions between those 2 are not gonna matter in the slightest.
This is probably my most controversial video ever, I know, but I've been praising the show for almost a decade now and never really delved into its weak spots, so it's only fair I address those as well. Hope you won't hate me for this lol Feel free to share your opinions and disagree with me, possibly in a polite way x)
I can't help but wonder... What Might Have Been? What would have happened if only this episode had given us an action-packed, deeply emotional and romantic story instead? With the characters being their decisive, determined and creative selves? That would have been the dream...

I still think Phinbella should've became canon at the end of "Night of the Living Pharmacist" with Phineas still remembering Isabella confessing her feelings to him before they got turned into zombies instead of wiping their memories after they turned back to normal.
That would be too soon to happen, especially since I wouldn't know if the series would ever resurface. Besides, those things about returning to normality always happen in cartoons with absurd environments.
You’ve literally explained how I feel about this episode. So many questions left unanswered, the characterisation of some characters (e.g Phineas especially) being heavily underwhelming and just overall the episode being flat out boring.
I personally think had the episode taken place during the high school years instead alongside a few tweaks like having the others engage more by creating an invention for Phineas and Isabella or by telling us how and why Phineas gained feeling for Isabella, the episode would’ve definitely play out a lot better.

@Magarethg123 Not at all, on the contrary, I hope they focus on it as little as possible. After all act your age already told us that nothing is ever going to happen in the present between those 2, so what would be the point? It would just be extremely frustrating
Phineas literally could've used the museum time machine to go back in time and tell his past self that Isabella loves him, that honestly would've been a better episode plot.
At this point, I'd gladly take that over this episode
Actually, I think this episode is perfect the way it is...... I picture it like it's a silent, yet emotional short animated romantic film. Plus, I think it would be best if Phineas finally found out for himself as an adult...
I personally believe this entire episode was a dream in Isabella’s perspective tbh. It gives off that vibe. Or maybe it takes place in an alternate dimension. My biggest issue is that Candace was barely in it.

11:16 I have ALWAYS said that if there was an Episode where they would have ended up together that should have been the Night of The Living Pharmacists! This Episode had like the PERFECT SET UP! So much so that when I first saw it I thought that THIS was the Episode were it would happen!
And to think the writers even deleted from the episode the very final scene of Phineas and Isabella hugging D:
Keep in Mind that when this episode was released ,the creators had no plans to continue P&F and as far as they and us Knew back then this was the FINALE! So they did not care that they closed the door on Young Phinabella since there wouldn't have been any more episodes anyway. A lot of their decisions made sence back then.But now that they decided to continue with the series a lot of their Decisions like making Doofenshmirtz a Good Guy ect are now going to Backfire on them. That's the biggest problem. They Made the OG series without leaving any room for a potential Sequel! And now they will have to go back and change the cannon for everything to make sense or come up with stupid excuses to justify their BS.
Even though I'd be ok with them retconning this episode (because it's just so bad T-T), I fear that won't happen, Povenmire is just way too proud of this episode and he'd never remove it from canon

One tiny thing I like about this episode is how Ferb has a ton of dialogue, showing how he kind of grew out his "man of action" character and is a bit more talkative as an adult
I think the problem is that Phineas and Isabella's primary characteristics just aren't there, making you wonder why we should root for them.
Like it's simple: He's an inventor that wants to have fun with his friends and make the most out of every day, she's a girl scout (in their universe basically) who has a close bond with all the other members. Yes, she loves him more than anything, but their bond exists outside of the need for romance.
Also, their primary dynamic just isn't...there. Where's Phineas's optimism, where's Isabella's energeticness? There's not really a reason for those things to be gone that's stated, unless you want to just say they're older now.
It just feels like someone wrote a generic wattpad romance story and changed the leads to be Phineas and Isabella last minute. It's like, the "spirit" of the show isn't present here. If they made it a point as to why they act different now that'd be one thing but it's not explained or built upon.

What if the Reason Isabella is so Obsessed with Phineas is Because she has daddy issues? Hear me out before dismissing me as crazy! We've NEVER seen Isabella's Father before. Only her mother. So clearly he is either divorced or dead. In any case he isn't present in Isabellas life at all. So Isabella clearly has daddy issues and she sees Phineas as a Father Figure to Cover her gap for not having a father in her life. This is a common psychological problem for many young women where if they had problems regarding their fathers (being abusive or Absent in isabellas case) they will leech on some guy they find as to fill secure. We have also seen that Isabella although appears confident on the outside she is deeply insecure about her self and needs validation from other people. Have you Noticed that whenever someone else says her catchphrase "Whatcha Doing" she immediately gets Hostile? As if to say "Thats my thing!" Because she cant stand not being the center of attention. She cant stand other people not acknowledging her existence or value because she is reminded of her father's neglect. Her "love" for Phineas is in reality a need she has to feel loved,valued and accepted by a man. Why Phineas you ask? And not anyone else? Well Phineas is Basically the Epitome of a "Good Man" he is clever,kind,Passionate,protective and everything a girl whould want.EXCEPT he doesn't GIVE A FLYING FU** about Isabella at first, much like her father. Which paradoxically makes her Even MORE attracted to him! Its an endless cycle of Heartbreak.

what I like most about this episode is their father getting the midlife crisis-inator and drinking a different tea
Honestly I found the episode trying too hard to satisfy shippers and ended up looking strange. Plus I found Ferb and Vanessa ending up together creeping me out a bit
I mean, if they had given us a whole story that explained how they got together AFTER Ferb's 18th birthday then I would have had nothing against it. But shoving that scene there out of nowhere... it's kinda forced

@@A1exP1ays I'm pretty sure Vennesa is 16 like Candace. Phineas is 12 and Ferb is slightly older so 13-14 (13 at least) so it's only 3 year gap which is not a lot but it's a big gap in teen years and it is indeed a bit forced

I dont even like act your age for phinabella. Dont get me wrong i like the ship, i was just more interested in seeing ferb grown up😅 (not in a creepy simp way btw). I do agree it would have been better if ferb had taken charge and built something cool. Like wheres all that engineering talent when they needed it?
It's crazy that there are so many things wrong with this episode that this video is 30 minutes long and didn’t even get a chance to bring up the fact that with how quickly and no time they give to throwing in that Ferb and Vanessa (a pairing we never truly saw in the show) are apparently end game as well, they kinda make it come off like a fan favorite character is a bit of a child predator almost 💀 yes age matters less and less when you get older, but Vanessa is probably 26 with someone fresh out of high school (for better or worse, we don't know when Ferb's birthday is) and they didn’t freshly get together in this episode. Ferb is just not at the age where that sort of difference wouldn't matter, especially when Vanessa has known him since he was 8 or 9. She's giving "I'm gonna wait just until you turn 18 so I can't get in trouble for it". Why did they do that? Why did they give this ship no screen time until the last second, especially when doing so leaves the audience with the room to fill in the gaps and be left with a very questionable result?
I remember that as a kid, I followed along with behind the scenes news for this show as much as possible for a kid, and I'm not sure if they ever confirmed it directly, but I'm pretty sure they struggled an unusual amount for a Phineas and Ferb episode to make this one. I feel like I remember them revealing the episode title as soon as season 3, and kept on pushing it back further and further. Maybe they just wanted to make sure they could do this even if they didn't get a 4th season or something, but I feel like the final product shows they didn’t really know how pull this idea off in such a short time

Well said Jegcopo. Do you Think that the Revival is going to Change our Perspective for this Episode in Retrospect by Introducing some kind of revelation? Some past event we know nothing about? And if so whould that "Fix" this episode?
Povenmire said they'll make more episodes "set in the Act Your Age Timeline", so I assume they mean those episodes will follow the events of AYA, and won't tell stories set between the original summer and the day Phineas and Isabella got together. Still, I hope hope we'll get a flashback or two giving us more information about what happened during the time jump.
If, hypothetically, they were to make another episode set before AYA that would give us more insight into what happened during the time skip, then sure, that would really help and greatly improve 'Act Your Age'
A better plot line would have been phineas building something to try to chase down Isabella and he would spend the whole episode chasing after her. It would show how much he loves her.
I wished they could have done more with the older designs of the kids since they are pretty good. Otherwise I would say that I always enjoyed it and never really thought much about it but after listening to your points I really wished we would've gotten more.
From a perspective of being a kid who had a child love interest that never when anywhere it just kinda came up for me no single event just a lightbulb act your age wasn't great but to me this story felt a bit more realistic than others point it out to be sometimes things just click in time and the conversations aren't going to be big and elaborate I was told that same crush liked me yearrrrrs later in a conversation

We Hope Seasons 5 And 6 Retcon This Episode Into Taking Place In An Alternate Universe And The Dwampy Duo Change There Mind About This Episode And Regret Making It And Consider It An Old Shame
They should have shown more of what led to Isabellas decision to go back to wait for Phineas. I think giving Ferb the chance to take charge would have opened loads of opportunities. Maybe he could have the motivation of Phineas helping him with Vanessa, and Baljeet with Mishti. Phineas should have been done all different. Maybe after shloping around Phineas goes home and has one of his explosions like the one he does at Perry during Across the 2nd Dimension, or like what happened with Candace during the marvel episodes, but this time its at himself. But then suddenly Ferb has an idea and tells him, "I know what we're going to do today." In this version of the episode Ferb is a lot more talkative than he was when he was younger. They definitely were telling the write story but the wrong way.
I originally watched AYA 2 years ago but I imagine for the majority of people watching this video, it was 9 years ago and I’ll be honest, there are some things about this episode I don’t like either. But at the end of the day, we can’t complain about petty TV show episodes forever, especially if it’s one from 9 years ago. To quote Iceman from the movie Top Gun: Maverick, it’s time to let go.

I don’t hate the episode but I see your point. All that fluff should’ve been replaced with something bigger. Something better. They could’ve extended this to 30 minutes or an hour. I was puzzled when I saw that this was only 11 minutes. That’s not satisfying. The writers should’ve done more with it. It could’ve had more potential.
5:26, I can accept that because of Phineas’s reaction to Isabella’s kissing him in the movie and his objection to his memory of it being erased
I respect your opinion but I thik Phineas didn’t chase her was fit to his character as he was shown as a kind of genius with least emotional understandings. And a guy who does help others but when it comes to himself he doesn’t do much…his personality which need not to be changed..
Why their friends never tries is also understandable as bella always wanted him to acknowledge himself (which her friends knew) And Ferb believed that these things can’t be forced.. though they tried in last as they thought it to be their last chance..
In the end they both confessed which also fits as this was the time they both feared that they both will may loose each other forever…
And I don’t think that love relationships were ever the highlight of series even this episode was something I was not expecting that’s why I loved it…
I like the ending as it was normal depicting how teens do without any over the top drama thus becoming more relatable and genuine…

I think what the episode is about how one in a million this kind of situation really is. If you have seen an anime movie called 5 Centimeters per Second before, you will understand. And yes, I did see it before. And I've never been emotionally hurt in such a way like that before. But the point is that not all childhood friends ended up becoming couples when they become teenagers, let alone get married when they become adults. So what happened between Phineas and Isabella are kind of one in a million from a certain point of view.
And assuming what happened in 5 Centimeters per Second happened to Phineas and Isabella, it will simply caused another type of division to happen within the fandom between those who supported the idea of Phineas and Isabella moved on from each other and those who are angry at the series and the creators because Phineas and Isabella did not end up together. So they decided to play it safe and make sure they ended up together in the end.
I fell the same way abt the ep it had a cool concept but the execution was not done well but "Act your Age" Always felt like a fanfic to me and not canon btw love this video:)

I see your point. There wasn’t enough detail on showing what happened in between this.
I first watched this episode upon release when I was 10 years old. When Phineas and Isabella kissed, I screamed at the top of my lungs. In retrospect, the writers may have been aware of the poor writing but kept it as such since the target audience likely wouldn’t notice. Instead, they likely thought of what would be most interesting to a child viewer.
Well, you convinced me, this was actually structured and argumented well, not just a rant like I expected.
One of my friends was once like "Did you know they made Phineas and Ferb adults in one episode?", and I showed her the episode... after the confession scene she was done lol.
This is like the mom knew it all theory, because it would be just impossible for no one to tell him, when literally the entire cast knew, including Candace, who even says she "know's what it's like to like a boy", so she would try to help Isabella.
In a way, I could see myself relating to Isabella a bit, but that's it, can you say the same?
My job here is done, I changed one mind and that's all that matters. And to think it was the most important mind too, props to me!
Well, at least YOUR friends gave the episode a chance, I can't remember the last time I convinced someone to watch an episode of the show. It must have been 2014 or something 🤔
I know, I guess I could see Baljeet not talking to Phineas about it, but Ferb? How did it never occur to him to confront his brother? And why didn't Phineas ever tell Ferb how he feels about Isabella?
And I also agree with the Candace thing, she of all people should know how exhausting and tough Isabella's situation must be.
Absolutely, not only do I sympathize with Isabella, but I also can relate to her quite a lot, and perhaps that's why I hated how the writers made her struggle with her feelings for Phineas for so many years. It's just not fair for someone so kind-hearted to go through that much pain, and to think she did nothing to deserve it. Not to mention, all of her emotional scars and insecurities are not getting erased thanks to a simple kiss, she'll have to work on those for a very long time... the episode just did Isabella dirty 😤

Think about it:
- Isabella could see how great romance is and develop a crush on Phineas
- Perhaps Phineas is having trouble bonding with Ferb because of his silence and learns to communicate with him.
- Maybe Perry can officially becomenpart of OWCA
- Something could happen that makes Candace wanna start busting her brothers

24:11, I disagree. I think it makes sense that Candace only has a cameo so that the episode can focus more on Phineas and Isabella. Though I also think that they should have done the same thing with Dr. Doofenshmirtz since his subplot added nothing of value to the episode

I think Isabella's Crush on Phineas is Completely Toxic and Unhealthy. You are the first UA-camr to acknowledge how Fu**ed Up it was for Isabella to suffer for at least 15 years of her life for a boy that didn't even care about her that much. There is a difference between Love and OBSESSION. And Isabella had the latter. She was so infatuated with Phineas that her entire Personality is almost "the Girl that likes the Main character" And her happiness in life was solely based on if she ended up together with him or not. She is just a prize for Phineas. That's all. And a prize he didn't even earn. It always seemed to me that Phineas finally got in a relationship with her more out of guilt to make it up to her for being the reason she suffered so long, rather than because he truly loved her. Its not normal to be so dependent on another person for your happiness. What if Phineas one day breaks up with her? Is she going to kill herself?

I would love to see what a elaborate thing the writers could’ve come up with with the Phineas gang now grown up, but it feels like they deevolved
I dislike "Act Your Age" for a lot of reasons and most of them were summed up pretty well in this video.
"You built a rollercoaster through downtown! You made giant tree-house robots! You traveled through time for crying out loud! Twice!". Phineas could 100% do something in terms of telling her, and having a long-term relationship, but instead he is just hopeless (also another reason I hate: the best lazy day ever)
I just hope in Season 5/6 that we get an between. Seeing Phineas falling in love with Isabella, and Isabella "giving up" on Phineas
Act Your Age isn't perfect, but it's understandable why some of the characters would act different due to being teenagers now and Phineas only developing feelings for Isabella around high school makes sense because he was only a kid throughout most of the series.

Plus there’s one scene where he dyes his hair back to brown and when he sinks on the boat the hair dye washes off 😂 I mentioned that only cuz my dad thinks that scene is funny 😆
But yeah, if you want a GOOD phinabella conclusion, watch MWCA. Ironically fanmade but did its job better.
I really enjoyed MWCA's musical and I agree that it gave us a much more satisfying conclusion than the show itself. Those guys did a great job!

I kind of understand your reasoning. A bit more fleshing out of the love story would have been nice. But on the other hand, I think Phineas not showing crazy feelings for Isabella makes sense. Guys typically don't show their emotions as much. And I think it would be weird anyway if Phineas was showing obsessive traits for a girl he hadn't even seen all summer. And I think when it comes to Phineas not trying to reach Isabella until her grandmother tells him too makes perfect sense. He was overwhelmed with emotion and couldn't think straight, and he barely had time to process the fact that she was leaving that day since he just figured it out. And I think the story works better with Phineas moping after he found out she already left. That's what really makes this episode special. It emphasizes Phineas' sadness because he rarely is ever in a situation where it feels hopeless for him and that leads to the audience feeling the same way. And maybe he could have found a way to catch up to her, but pouring your heart out to the girl you've known all your life can be extremely emotionally challenging. And I think the fact that Isabella came back was a great twist to show that even though she claims to have lost feelings for him years ago, she goes back to say goodbye one last time. She's giving it one final chance right when Phineas is finally ready and we thought it was over. That was a heart touching moment for me. And I think the lack of Isabella's presence in the episode is important, because this show IS called PHINEAS and Ferb, and apparently Isabella wasn't a big part of his life anymore. Having the 4 guys meet without her emphasizes how they strayed. Also I don't know why you have a problem with Isabella having a crush on Phineas for basically her whole life. Yes, it can be painful for her, but that's part of what makes the final payoff so worth it. It would have ruined it for me if she lost interest, dated some other guy, then eventually went back to liking Phineas later. This episode really gave me the vibe of everything wrapping up and this was the final piece. Phineas and Ferb had been building inventions for years, all of their friends were in relationships, going to college, moving to the next stage of their life. Even Doof was done with evil. Because there was so little action in the episode, it emphasized how everything had pretty much wrapped up, and Phineas and Isabella's relationship was the last unconcluded story line. There's a lot of symbolism and subtly to this episode I think you missed. I think it was very creative just because it was so different from the rest of the show. This wasn't meant to be 11 minutes of fast paced action and laughs, it was acknowledging the underlying feelings Isabella had behind all those laughs over the years. I do love your idea of them showing a montage of failed attempts to get them together because of Doofensmirtz. That was the biggest thing I will agree on you with. It did feel like there were some missing pieces in there. It would be kind of cool to see what Phineas would have looked like in high school crushing on Isabella. And why maybe he never told his brother who could have instantly told him to go for it, since we can tell Ferb knows about Isabella's crush early in the show. But other than that, I still think this was a near perfect episode

My problem with Isabella's never-ending crush on Phineas is just that she's been in so much pain for ages, when she didn't really deserve it. She's one of the most kind-hearted characters on this show, yet she ends up being miserable for most of her life. Not even Doof's horrible parents ever got "punished" for mistreating Heinz, yet Isabella is forced to suffer for a decade and a half, and not even because of something she did. It's a bit unnecessary for her to go through all that for no particular reason.
I understand the satisfying payoff thing, and although the lovebirds will now be happy together (hopefully forever), this relationship doesn't really erase Isabella's past, her suffering and her emotional scars, she'll forever live with those. She'll forever be insecure and dependent on Phineas. And this relationship doesn't really seem worth all that pain imo, no relationship does x)
Then, I do appreciate episodes with a slower pace, especially when they're paired with particularly introspective stories for the characters, but the issue here is not the pace, but the story itself.
"Act Your Age" doesn't really have a cause-and-effect relationship tying its events together: nothing Phineas does in the episode up until minute 19 has an influence or repercussions on his happy ending, since Isabella would have stopped by his house anyway, regardless of his chat with Nana Shapiro or with Isabella's mom. It's not like he grew as a person thanks to those chats, he's the same person as before.
If he had stayed home the entire time after Baljeet broke the news to him, the story would have had the same ending and nothing would have changed. So that's not a slow pace, that's a lack of story xD
I'm not saying Phineas shouldn't have been upset or conflicted, on the contrary, I would have loved to see him devastated and unsure of what to do because of his feelings for Isabella.
However we neither get a determined protagonist who fights for his happy ending nor a concerned or devastated teen trying to fully understand his feelings. We only see a kid staring off into space without expressing any particular emotion. He's not visibly shaken, and at the same time, he doesn't share with the audience how he feels internally. (It's not like he should have done it with words, but he should have shown it through his actions throughout the episode).
When I say it bothers me to see him mope, I mean that I hate to see him failing to express any kind of emotion at all. Moping is what a kid does, I expected him to show strong emotions instead
I would really like you to expand on the symbolism thing though, I might have indeed missed something there.
And as for the idea of Phineas and Isabella's romance being the only storyline left unsolved and the last little piece of the puzzle is interesting. It's a little bonus that doesn't change my view of the episode, but thinking about it makes me smile a bit x)
While you make some solid points, I dont agree that Isabella's depression is Phineas's fault for not noticing, its Isabella's fault for never moving on
I'm not saying it's his fault, I'm just saying I didn't enjoy seeing her miserable for 15 whole years xD Although yes, as I said in the video, it's Isabella who should have revealed her feelings first, not Phineas
I love this episode because it doesn’t feel forced or like this big grand storyline, I think doing a big adventure or having this super high stakes moment for this romantic conclusion would feel way too cheesy and way too forced and not very genuine for the characters.
Phineas as a child was obsessed with making the most of everyday and having big adventures and was a KID. A lot of kids don’t care about romance or relationships and see their opposite gender friends as just friends even if that person obviously likes them romantically.
The thing is, when phineas goes to high school he’s becoming more focused on studies and his life and what he wants out of life (the entire episode shows this with how important his college choice is for him), but as a guy grows up they start to see girls differently and start to develop more romantic interests in their life. I like that the show doesn’t tell us all of this because like good art, it lets the viewer interpret for their self based off what we can see in the art. I think if they did a big oh he sees her differently now moment it would make a very rushed relationship. Whereas knowing this shift happened for years and that Isabella gave up on the fantasy when she just wasn’t receiving attention all her childhood makes the idea that maybe phineas liked her more when she wasn’t as forceful of her feelings (after all she was very very obsessed and clingy which you could even argue could be seen too similar to his sister candace and a kid wouldn’t want to romantically be interested in someone too similar to his family).
I even argue that the episode handles the relationship really well since phineas spends the whole episode struggling to choose colleges (which is a huge deal for him) but he’s also thinking about the shock of not knowing a girl he liked later in his life liked her earlier in his life before he liked her. And then the talk at the end really makes everything feel genuine and nice, like phineas realises how much he likes her still and that she truly did like him and decides to make a second chance at it all by deciding to go to the college she’s going to. It just feels like the writers made the ship feel natural and more real.
Just as a final note here, this episode weird enough actually is very relatable for me: a couple of years ago I went to uni for 3 years and there was a girl who I liked living in the same dorm as me but she was in a relationship so I just was a friend of hers and that’s all I thought she felt of me too. But then a few years of being just casual friends later and while talking about different things we ended up talking about romance and love and she reveals she actually liked me from the moment she met me but she couldn’t do anything about it since she was in a relationship. But she still liked me all these years later and I liked her still so I took a chance and decided to see if she would want to be with me. That was my first ever relationship and while it only lasted a couple of months, it was a nice relationship and it still ended with us remaining friends. Cut to now and I’m in a new relationship going strong and very happy with my love life, yet I also still have a good friendship with my ex and it doesn’t feel weird anymore because we both have moved on in our lives. The point is, that while this episode doesn’t show all the details of phineas’ shift, I don’t think it needs to because in life these changes in feelings aren’t always openly shown or talked about and it tends to be just something you keep to yourself sometimes. If they handled this episode any mushier way I would have thought it was cringey but they made a really mature episode that feels more natural yet still funny in the way phineas and ferb can be. It’s not one of my top episodes but it’s a very personal episode now because of how it handles the relationship so well but not forced

Ho sempre trovato questo episodio molto frustrante, specie perché le premesse per un bell'episodio c'erano tutte e le hanno sprecate purtroppo, forse è proprio per colpa di questo che non mi piace molto la coppia Phinbella in generale, con tutto il rispetto per chi li shippa ovviamente lol. Un'altra cosa è che, secondo me, TUTTI dicano a Phineas di Isabella, facendolo passare come uno sciocco, almeno per come l'ho percepito io. Non so, secondo me il concept di loro da adulti poteva essere esplorato in modo moooooolto più accattivante senza rovinare i personaggi come hanno fatto nell'episodio (non tutti, Doof per me è la parte migliore di AYA). Verissimo, se l'avessero gestita meglio la storia tra Phineas e Isabella sicuramente mi sarei interessato di più alla coppia anche io. Anche perché, pur non interessandomi troppo di romanticismo nelle serie animate, ho sempre fatto il tifo per Isabella.
Parte di me continua a sperare invano che l'episodio venga rimosso dal canon permettendo agli autori di riscrivere il finale e renderlo veramente soddisfacente. Non mi dispiacerebbe affatto scoprire che tutto questo in realtà è avvenuto in un universo parallelo, in un'altra dimensione o linea temporale. Solitamente si tratta di trucchetti e mezzucci fastidiosi, ma in questo caso lo approverei volentieri x)
Anche quello è vero, Baljeet, Buford e Ferb parlano della cotta che Isabella ha per Phineas come se lui ne fosse già al corrente, come se in realtà non gliene avessero mai parlato perché erano certi che sotto sotto lui sapesse tutto ma non fosse interessato alla ragazza.

While I still like Act your Age, and there are worse episodes out there in my opinion, you really opened my eyes to all the problems and wasted potential this episode has. I never even loved Act your Age that much as a kid, but I can now understand and agree with all the frustrations you have with it

Literally Night of The Living Doof gave them MORE Chemistry than this whole episode did. Something that would've made this unique might have been maybe having them confess while trying ask to someone out for Homecoming or Prom making the Episode really unique as one of the only episodes to be set in School. It would be PERFECT. Having them look back wish they had more time. Prom or Homecoming would of forced Phineas to wake up his emotions as his friends convince him to ask her to Homecoming/Prom. He mentions wich school she goes to, phineas replies he hasn't seen her mutch, baljeet said thought they'd endmip togather, phineas says their in the friend zone, and their like"Dude, you're so oblivious" telling how she always came there(for him mostly),hearth shaoed eyes,ect.
24:39, I like Candace, I just don’t think she should have been a major character in this episode. I also find this episode suffered from making Doofenshmirtz a major character even if it were something that would make sense for other episodes of the show
30:43, okay. It boggles my mind that this is the highest rated episode of the show. Do I dislike it? No. I like What Might Have Been and I think its Phineas and Isabella story was serviceable but not great but I also think that it would have made more sense to reduce Doofenshmirtz to a cameo like they did for Candace so that they could focus more time on developing the main Phineas and Isabella story which was admittedly underwhelming. I still think there are weaker episodes than this one like Candace Gets Busted and Escape from Phineas Tower
But if the episode of the escape from the Phineas tower is very good as objectively ingenious

They fumbled so many beats starting back at Night of The Living Pharmacists. That should have been the Phinabella getting together episode. Act Your Age failed on so many vital points that the rest of the series nailed for the most part. AYA was a let down from the standard we were used to from P&F. To be fair, I absolutely HATE this episode, For Isabella to love him for god knows how long, then completely throws it away. and for Phineas to get sense knocked into him after all this time, even when he admitted his love, it doesn't make any sense. And yet, why the heck would the writers decide to wait a whole episode over this one? I think they just wanted them to have a spotlight episode, to be honest. But wait, haven't we already had a couple of those?! If I was a Phinbella shipper, (Which I'm NOT), We should have some justice for the moments of them in "Summer belongs to you" and "That Sinking Feeling", even if the endings were a little better. Not hating, but I think she was a bit of a coward to not tell him for a long period of time. If she really loved him, then why didn't she open her mouth?

I don't know, maybe you're exaggerating a bit with that hate, and the only flaws that the special has are some aesthetic problems with the characters, a little attention to continuity detail like Baljeet's, and it should have been a one-hour special

I was really surpriced to see such a video. I remember enjoying this episode back in the day.
But all of your points have been very reasonable, and I agree with pretty much everything.
The song was indeed the most memorable part for me, too. Which, along with me already having read so much Phinbella fanfiction, just made me fill in the things I wanted myself, without really understanding that the episode itself did not have these things properly.
And also the fact that we're directly told "they only get together in this flash forward", just makes it dissapointing that will never happen at any earlier point, making it more sad to watch Isabella in other episodes...

I haven't really read any Phineas and Ferb fanfictions so I don't know EXACTLY what fans would have loved to see from the episode, but it would be a fun thought experiment anyway
I wonder if they split the episode in multiple parts where part 1 being the history of the kids (for example why haven’t they helping Phineas and Isabella to get together, or if they been doing things together after the summer) part 2 could be Phineas and Isabella and part 3 being doof and perry and the ending. Each episode could have 20 minutes long each.

When I first watched this episode, I genuinely fell in love with it but only because I got to see our familiar characters growing up. But as I expected for later rewatches, that love certainly didn't grow on me anymore.
I think the biggest issue with this episode is that there are too many characters without anyone playing the main role here. "Act Your Age" sets in the future 10 years later and I believe certain relationships, if not all, can change considerably during such a long duration. Yet you can still see Phineas and Ferb in the same room; Buford and Baljeet still hang out; the Fireside Girls somehow still manage to have a casual group chat in the same restaurant; Doof and Perry still do their own thing except for fighting I guess... the point is, for an episode with a future setting, why is there almost no change at all for these characters? They could have mentioned Ginger could have hung out with Baljeet somewhere else and I'd be so damn satisfied to see that moment for 10 seconds. Or Phineas could have thought of some invention like he used to (e.g. a smart GPS) and it turned out to be useful for Isabella search later on. And for characters with no importance to the episode at all, why would even include them? Why including as many characters as possible just to... be there. They drew bunch of characters here and there (Candace, for instance) then told us nothing about them. It would have been less of a headache to exclude characters that don't matter, and the writers would benefit more from focusing on the main plot here, with the characters that DO have a significant change after 10 years.
MAN, you're not gonna believe how painful I was to see an important character like Isabella had even less screentime than Doof's subplot or the gang subplot, and they were telling me that she was only a waitress in a restaurant?! I get it that realistically, she's not the girl we know in 4 seasons, but why did they have to choose such a dull profile for her? After a looooong summer of hanging out in Phineas' backyard with his crazy contraptions, and her experience as a Fireside Girl, it's weird that none of these didn't play a single part of her life in the future.
Phineas was also insanely out of character, and mainly because he only went around and did something that other background characters told him to, which is incredibly sad for the most active kid in Danville. His main flaw is the same as I pointed out for Isabella earlier, and you explained this very well too. Out of all the stories they could have picked, I can't understand why they had to pick a tragic story of teenagers who never managed to acknowledge each other's feelings for 10 years until that one damn day. That's not the standard story from Phineas and Ferb's universe that I fell in... this situation with.
Why isn't Act Your Age an episode where Phinabella has already been established, and they tell us a backstory of how they truly acknowledge their feelings? It could have been way better if we were told that Phineas still built things, but not on a daily basis, or Isabella grew out of Fireside Girls and tackled on other stuff. It didn't have to be a dramatic build-up for a conventional confession you often see in certain Korean drama series. Act Your Age could have been an original romance episode that lives up to its expectation in the P&F fashion.
