Dan Andersson wrote this poem in 1915. It was set to music in the late 30s by Gunnar Thuresson and many people have sung it through the years but this version is the most successful.

The poem is about a charcoal pile tender waiting patiently for his beloved to appear on the meadows. This same charcoal was used to produce the excellent Swedish steel that was world renowned. Lot's of Swedes tended to charcoal piles in the late 19:th century.
The iron ore came from all over "Bergslagen" and the Kiruna Mine. Best Iron ore in the world at the time.

I found the lyrics to this song and have translated it
    Jag Väntar
I wait by my log fire while the hours tick by
While the stars wander and the nights go
I'm waiting for a woman from far away
The dearest, the dearest with blue eyes
    I imagined a wandering snow-covered flower
I have dreamed of a shaking, elusive laugh
I thought I saw the most beloved coming
Through the forest, over the moors on a snowy night
I wanted to happily carry my dream in my arms
Through the thicket over there where my hut stands
And raise a jubilant cry to the loved one
Welcome you, who have been waiting for lonely years
And raise a jubilant cry to the loved one
Welcome you, who have been waiting for lonely years
I wait at my mila while the hours suffer
While the forests sing and the clouds walk
I'm waiting for a hiker from far away
The dearest, the dearest with blue eyes
I'm waiting for a woman from far away
The dearest, the dearest with blue eyes.
Hearty greetings from Sweden ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Please also listen to this song!

      Helen Sjöholm
      Du måste finnas, Kristina
      You drove me away, God
From my homeland I was torn away
Here I am a refugee and a stranger
And I find myself in that fate
      But you took my child
And you take me from my husband
I can no longer follow a sentence
What is it that you want?
      What should I believe…
      The thought is staggering
In front of me gapes an abyss
My whole being rebels and wants to say no
      The question has been raised
And now my soul trembles before the answer
      That you don't exist
      Although I believed in you
Who would help me endure life out here?
Who would give me the power that I must have?
Who would comfort me, I am so small on earth?
      If you didn't exist
Well, what did I do then?
      No, you must exist
      You must
I live my life through you
Without you, I am a speck on a dark and stormy sea
      You have to exist
      You must
How then can you abandon me?
      I would be nowhere
I would be nothing if you didn't exist
Never before have I had it in speech or thought
The little word that frightens and torments me so
The word is 'if', if I prayed all my prayers in vain
      If you don't exist
      What should I do then?
Who would feel my remorse and then forgive?
Peace of mind, yes, who would give it to me?
So who would finally receive me after death?
      If you didn't exist
Who took care of me then?
      No, you must exist
      You must
I live my life through you
Without you, I am a speck on a dark and stormy sea
      You have to exist
      You must
How then can you abandon me?
      I would be nowhere
I would be nothing if you didn't exist
      You have to exist
      You must
How then can you abandon me?
      I would be nowhere
I would be nothing if you didn't exist.
many warm hugs from Helena and Tommy from Sweden
the singer's name is Helen Sjöholm and she is one of the best singers in my opinion. I love this song so much. When she sings, all the hair on my body stands up and the tears come. I hope you will love this song as much as I do. Helen sings with such immense emotion. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

She makes folksong music and has been really successful with her christmas tour. One of her songs "Dalarna från ovan" is a great song,, a bit more poppy. Folksong in sweden is about telling stories so no belting, or otherwise trendy voice acrobatics. A buetiful voice and diction is more important.

Swedish folkmusic. ❤ Very similar to norwegian. Look into Ingebjørg Bratland from Norway. Listen to: Ingen som du. ❤

The lyrics of this song is (As @Nocturne7371 says) written By Dan Andersson, one of our greatest poets. It is very hard to interpret (I don’t mean just translate, but interpret) into English, but the texts are invariably about the harsh life as a coaler in Northern Sweden’s forests. I do think however that interpretation into German would be more accurate because the German and the Swedish languages are much closer related than English and Swedish (I took five years of German in 7 to 11 grade, so I know a little bit but for sure not enough to interpret poetry). Please try “Spelmannen” (Der Geiger , Der Fiedler ) ua-cam.com/video/5tJAVIKEEKM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=KaareK.Johnsen I will add a german translation (not interpretation) in another comment below, The song is sad but otherworldy

I really recommend you watch another performance from "Kristina från Duvemåla"(the same musical where Helene Sjöholm sings Du måste finnas).
So just to remind you this musical is basically about Swedes who moved to America in search for a better life during the big migration of Swedes to America during the 1800s.
So the other performance I really recommend you to watch is "Guldet blev till sand"(the gold turned to sand) by the Swedish artist Peter Jöback.
This song is about "Robert" telling Kristina about how "Arvid" passed away while him and Robert were out in search of gold in Californian to make a better life for all of them.
    Link with English subtitles:

This performance is jaw-dropping and sooo beautiful and emotional. In my opinion it's even better than "Du måste finnas" but I know a lot of people might disagree.
I really believe you would it and I know Swedes love to see reactions to both of these songs!

A suggestion; make a video about Ullared, paradise for Scandinavian shoppers. It's a megastore featuring things like its own reality tv show and camping site. No lie.

An duet (in English) with Sofia Karlsson and another astonishing Swedish singer/songwriter Freddie Wadling, who sadly passed away in 2016 in a horrible fire accident. Enjoy!

You should react to Jon Henrik Fjällgren - Daniels Jojk. Its from Sweden Got Talent 2014. He sings in sami jojk about his best friend Daniel that passed away. The sami (samer) is a swedish national minority that lives in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland. Jon Henrik was born in Colombia, but he was adopted by a sami family. He is now a very loved musical artist after his performance in Sweden Got Talent. Even though you do not understand one word of what he is singing, you can still feel the emotions through his singing. ua-cam.com/video/uGVWaEta2po/v-deo.html. The subtitles does not seem to work properly in that video. But the story is that when his best friend died, Jon sat down outside his friends cabin and started to pray. And when he was sitting there, crying, Daniel responded to Jon with this Jojk. So Jon sang the Jojk and it made him feel much better. So Daniel helped Jon to move on and he decided to praise his friend Daniel and his family by performing the Jojk in front of an audience.
