Thanks for this! We just got 3 Tiger Nerite snails for our 30 gallon tank. One is already cruising around things and eating, our big one is climbing, and one is hitching a ride on the back of the big one because they're lazy, I guess? They all have immaculate shells and the place we got them from is a small-owned business, so their stuff is always top quality. I'm excited to see how they do with our tetras. So far, they're pretty happy it seems. There is definitely algae for them to munch on, as the tank has recently finished cycling with all the plants and gravel and stuff now settled. We have a female betta, but she is blind and doesn't do much other than swim at the top, and feel for my finger at feeding time. She also like to "ride" the waterfall from the water filter. She'll just loop in circles until she gets tired. So I don't think she'll be a problem for them. Poor thing. I found her hidden behind some bird food at a Petsmart with green water, and I was like "You're coming home with us. This place is terrible, whoever hid you back here is terrible!" They almost didn't let me buy her, but I am glad they did. We got her at the beginning of December, and already her color has brightened, she swims a lot more, and she's an eating champ! We named her Siren because I swear she was calling to me. We were looking at female bettas, and I just happened to see her silver flecks of scales moving juuuuust in the back of my peripheral vision. I saw her, I fell for her instantly, and she is my special girl, one of Poseidon's finest to be sure!
I hope she's still alive, and if not, that she had a wonderful life! I've just gotten my first tank and am preparing to rescue whichever the saddest female betta is in my store as well-- I actually already considered calling her Siren, but now that I know there's already a badass female Siren out there, I'll have to find a new name for my own >:D Thanks for sharing-- I'm in a similar position with getting my snail from a small business, so I'm hoping to have similar results!
Got one nerite in a 29 gallon. She laid eggs all over drift wood. I’m relieved they won’t hatch. I also use wonder shell to get the water where it needs to be for my snails. Great info in this video!
I love my little dopey nerite snails. They are master escape artists and I've found them in crazy spots on the floor so many times. I know for sure they've been out of the water for well over 24 hours before. But they just seal themselves up and pop right back out after putting them back in the tank. I have a suspicion one was out for up to 48 hours once... If you didn't know, you'd be tempted to throw them away thinking they were dead. I now do a snail inspection every morning!

I am wondering, do they add to the bio load that much? Because my tank is pretty well stocked, maybe even a little overstocked. I do good cleaning algae off of the glass, but I need something to eat it of of the plants or decorations. If I get 1 or 2, will they add to much to the bio-load, or will I be fine?
if my nerite ignores the calcium blocks (and wafers, and blanched veg, snello, etc) i put in there, does that typically mean that he's getting enough food? I worry because the glass looks clean; he's been all over the tank. Yet he insists on continuing to try to clean the glass even when the calcium block (made specifically for snails) is in there. The mystery snail, however, ALWAYS drops whatever he is doing and races to the block.
Should I quarantine them before putting them in my established tank? If so, should I use the meds trio and can I have guppies in there along with them for the quarantine?
Cory this video was very informative! I had nerite snails in the past and they would live at least 2 months in the tank with my betta and otocinclus catfish. They would eat the algae and clean my tank well. I have to increase their calcium intake. Luckily I have two olive nerite snails that have lived past six months.

I had some Nerite snails in my Mbuna tank, and they did well until the Mbuna got to be about 4 inches long. Then they started to disappear. Great snails and I like that they do not reproduce in freshwater.
We’ve had ours for a little over 5 years, we give him snail food, but not specifically calcium, maybe we have high calcium in our water? He’s doing pretty well he has a little white spot on the tip of his shell that’s always been there, his tank mate recently died a giant ranchu, so we’ll be moving him from a 150L tank to a 10L tank, I hope it goes well, as he’s at such a good age. Would you recommend still trying him with calcium?
The craziest thing to me is the hundreds of random pond snails I mysteriously got after not putting anything in my tank for months eat more algae than my 2 nerites do lol
I added four nerite snails to my freshwater 75g tank about a month ago and three of them have died (I can't spot the 4th at the moment)... 2 of them were "resting" on the heater for over 24 hours before I realized they were no longer alive. The water temp was high (80F) and I've lowered it... the water is quite soft, would adding them with a giant wonder shell and a temperature closer to 78F be a good combo to keeping them happy and alive? The only potential fish predator would be a Bolivian ram but I'd never seen him pay them much attention.
We love our nerite snail 🐌 aka snailman. Thought he died a couple of times but nope! Lol amazing lil creature. Does Aquarium Co-op sell snail food? Thx
There is a small snail in my tank and it lost its shell overnight but is still alive and moving and feeding. I believe the type of snail is a bladder snail, is this normal or something I should be concerned about with my tank. There are many other snails in my tank, zebra, trumpet, etc which are doing great.
I was told not to chase the PH. I 10 gallon Betta tank only has a pH of 6.6. And my snail has white spots spots on his shell. I’m thinking of moving them to my 35 gallon tank which has a 7.6 pH for some reason. What do you think should I do that? Are you saying I should chase the pH and try to get it more alkaline?
i bought 7 nerites so far, 4 are zebra 2 are lightning bolt? and one was all black. all of the nerites except the zebras died off and didnt clean at all. the zebras have been amazing tho they clean non stop. the lightning bolts i had one of them escaped daily for the entire time i had him even with a lid. his twin didnt live that long at all. the all black one didnt clean at all and would lay upside down but was alive for months, i kept checking on him to see if he was dying or what was going on. id see him out sometimes at night moving around but its like night at the museum hed go right back to the exact same spot upside down. the filter current isnt that strong and the other nerite in the tank was moving and cleaning all the time. over all ive had best luck with the zebra nerites. they clean and i havnt had one try to escape even once. they seem happy and healthy too theyve been laying eggs all over my tanks! ive noticed the one tank with 3 nerites 2 of them are always together usually piggy backing, the shells still look unharmed so i dont think there eating the shells? but still kinda odd and unique!
Mystery snails and ramshorns always end up with shell lines in my tanks, but nerites always look flawless. I've got a 7.8 ph and even end up with calcium buildup in my tanks, but for some reason only nerites have no issues.
I want to try breeding nerites, but apparently the eggs only hatch in brackish conditions. Can I remove the eggs from my freshwater tanks and move them into a brackish tank, or once the eggs are in freshwater they will never hatch?
New owner of a 25gal tank, a year ago I bought 6 zebra snails. And now have 15 of various sizes. I first noticed small snails living inside the filter. They soon started exploring the tank and are now living out in the tank. I have no live plants and never add any salt to the tank. I add crushed eggshells every fiornight . I thought nerites needed brackish water to breed.
Hi! I have a 10 gallon tank with goldfish and tend to get some algae build up. I bought two black racers after finding they would help and cohabitate. Are the nano blocks safe for my goldfish as well?
I have some questions. For the sake of my other livestock, I keep my ph at 7.0, but I really, really want to add nerites. The obvious (to me) would be something like the calcium block, but... how much does it leach? With 210 gallons, will one block raise my ph significantly? Will the snails find it in all that space? Will dietary supplementation provide enough calcium? So many questions; so few snails...
I have some snails, (originally it was only one but somehow multiplied) and i can't tell what they are. So im tryin to do research so that I can care for them
I seen a guy doing big glass jar aquariums for snails and they looked so pretty .. is it ok to use a big jar and just put a couple in ? And some pretty plants .. also I'm from uk as far as I know we're not allowed mystery snails.. what's the biggest aquatic snail we can have in the UK ?
My nerite snail has more than doubled in size in 2 months. I can see a clear line from his shell where I got him and new shell- I didn't expect him to grow this fast- he gets calcium blocks and food, but now I'm wondering how big is "normal"?
One of my snails hasn’t come out there shell in around 2 days and the trapdoor was firmly closed. Now the trap door is loose and no reaction. I can’t smell an awful smell but does that smell take a few days? I don’t know if she’s truly died
I wish there was a store like this near me. I'm in the middle of nowhere NY so I have the choice of Petsmart, Petco, driving three hours to NYC, or ordering online.
I have hard well water. It is about 8 on my test strips. Should I still supplement calcium for my snails. I leave the shells of the dead snails in the tank as well. I also feed a rotation of shrimp food to my snail only tank.
remember if you decide to keep nerites they poop a lot this is because they are constantly eating and they can have a high bioload . this is the same with plecos

So im tryin to do research so that I can care for them
I just got 4 racer nerite snails. Hope they's stay a long time w/ me
I seen a guy doing big glass jar aquariums for snails and they looked so pretty .. is it ok to use a big jar and just put a couple in ? And some pretty plants .. also I'm from uk as far as I know we're not allowed mystery snails.. what's the biggest aquatic snail we can have in the UK ?
Would you use with Wonder Shells? I have a 30gal w/ 3 shrimp, two Mystery Snails, 3 otos, 10 neon tetras and 9 harlequin rasboras.
I’d probably add one once in a while to keep calcium up
My nerite snail has more than doubled in size in 2 months.
I don’t know if she’s truly died
one of the best snails
I wish there was a store like this near me. I'm in the middle of nowhere NY so I have the choice of Petsmart, Petco, driving three hours to NYC, or ordering online.
Are you near Albany? Davey Jones's Locker! Or maybe a Benson's...
So if there is no visible algae the nano banquet blocks would do the trick?
I have hard well water. It is about 8 on my test strips. Should I still supplement calcium for my snails. I leave the shells of the dead snails in the tank as well. I also feed a rotation of shrimp food to my snail only tank.
I have a new Nerite snail I want to put into my Betta tank, can I use Nano-Blocks in the same tank?
Does the calcium affect the fish in the aquarium
Is the calcium block safe for cory catfish? My snails are needing some.
Would my shrimp be ok with this in there also?
Are these safe with cories because I know they love worms 🪱😂?
Can you use egg shells for calcium?
Thanks Cory 😍
remember if you decide to keep nerites they poop a lot this is because they are constantly eating and they can have a high bioload . this is the same with plecos
How do you unplug them from the wall to clean aquarium???
I have a 55 gallon tank. I get bad green spot algae that I have to scrap off once a month. I'm thinking of getting 8 of these.
