That Skyfall line is already a near perfect Title-Drop. But it is nothing compared to the reveal, what Skyfall REALLY is. That beautiful shot with the nearly empty landscape, the haunting music, the staring deer statue and the silent reveal of the cottage plaque, which simply says "Skyfall", is maybe my favourite scene in any james bond movie ever. And the reason, why "Skyfall" was even my favourite movie of 2012.

@@TheHobartAviationFan The plot in skyfall is just all over the place. The villians master plan is to get M? Bond's great idea to keep M safe is not to take her to a army base but to his family home in the middle of nowhere to hide from a Villain that knows all the secret agents private info...
SKyfall had a great title song and the Villains is good, a few nice shots but that's it.
Spectre was more glorious, something Bond hasn't been in a while. Great henchman and car chase, exotic locations. I don't like Blofeld's connection to Bond.
Spectre has a better M, sorry Dame Judi but M should be sat behind a desk barking orders at Bond. Towards the end M a very old woman was following Bond around everywhere he went, started towards the end of Brosnan. And it had the moment Bond is tired up and had to escape...classic bond.

@@benrawson007 well skyfall is my favourite bond film so most of these points i disagree with but your perspective is interesting.
Although I love the setting of skyfall house, I can agree Bond taking M there is not a brilliant idea.
Spectre is a very solid film too (currently falls 8th on my full ranking) and I fully agree that the car chase and locations are excellent. For me though I only really like it in the last 30 minutes (which are superb) the rest of it, not so much.
Although I prefer Dench over Fiennes as M, I do agree that her M is overused in the field.
At the end of the day I will always probably prefer Skyfall to Spectre, but your points are interesting and I do enjoy Spectre as well.

@@TheHobartAviationFan You agreed with all of my points. haha
SKyfall 'bond girl' is not even in it. The Villains grand plan is just, boring. The hightech 'bad guy' is boring.
Alot if Skyfall is style over substance, which is the opposite to the classic Bonds FRWL, GF, MWTGG.

I worked on A VIEW TO A KILL in the San Francisco scenes. I even got to go way up on the Golden Gate Bridge for the plate photography for the climatic fight. Something few people ever get to do. It's one of the most profound few hours of my life.
Not many people know this, but David Bowie was originally slated for the bad guy role of 'MAX ZORAN.' He dropped out after he demanded script approval as Cubby, Michael & Barbara had said, 'No.'
That's why they brought in Christopher Walken. Welcome to filmmaking and power.

If you want to count the 007 video games, Tomorrow Never Dies on PlayStation has a really strange title drop, coming as Elliot Carver's last line after his boss battle. It might seem awkwardly shoved in at first, but given his character (who was, unfortunately, not voiced by Johnathan Pryce this time around), it does showcase his to-the-end defiance a bit. As for YOLT, Bond would have been less bored if the movies had followed the book arrangement: On Her Majesty's Secret Service precedes You Onlly Live Twice in the books because in OHMSS, Blofeld kills Bond's wife....Bond starts failing on missions right and left from grief so he's sent to Japan as a pity mission (even M couldn;t bring himself to remove Bond's status as a 00 agent so he shuffled him off to investigate what should have been a lesser mission but instead he comes up against Blofeld, his personal as well as professional nemesis!)

Personally I wouldn't count titles based on names of characters (Dr No, Goldfinger, Octopussy) as title drops - if it's the character's name, it's got to me mentioned at some point. More interesting are the phrases such as YOLT, OHMSS, TMWTGG, FYEO, AVTAK, TLD, L2K, TWINE, etc - they don't have to be mentioned at all, but the writer has included them to give some reason why the title was chosen and it takes some imagination to work them in.
Of those, whilst AVTAK is perhaps the most contrived, I think TWINE is the worst-delivered, and would have been better without the long pause before it.

I have never had a problem with the TWINE title drop. The family motto, of course, comes from Fleming. And Bond would make that quip at the time. I respectfully disagree: AVTAK has the worst title drop. It's just so awkward. But there's a campiness to it that can make it enjoyable.

The Moonraker was too obviously .
Something that burdens me in that scene were the woman got shot in Doctor No they have put the colors way too violently to master it . They added too much blood on the floor/carpet which is ridiculous as the flowers in the vase are too pronounced and not even natural .

    • @TheJamesBondCountdown
      @TheJamesBondCountdown  2 роки тому

I think what you're referring to is simply a side-effect of the rich, vibrant, saturated colors inherent in technicolor film stock of the 1960's.

No it was added for the bluray and prolly the 4K release + their masterings . The VHS from Universal Artists later on MGM wasn't that pronounced as colors it showed just the normal kinda not noticeable as the flowers in the vase showed more white than pink palette same as the color from the white skin was more normal human not to the red pronounced . Same goes for the first DVD releases that were slighty remastered here and there from MGM but violently vibrant colors which somehow ruins it for me .
This somehow why i not like Sony TV's in the late 80's , 90's and early 2000's their colors was way too vibrant and violent to the eye . Why Philips and Panasonic TV's were much better used softer colors .
Nothing besides your video and your quality work into offering us your opinions and enlightment which i respect everyone's ideas !!
But the way that old movies got remastered today by adding this and that or a silly "couple seconds" of forgotten scenes which offers nothing to the movie "plot" at all is cringe . Thats why we have these bonus discs on DVD/Bluray to watch it . Also not to forget that many DVD/Bluray release falls today in the same joke like records becoming way too expensive for what it was used for . I'm not gonna pay 35 Euros for a DVD or Bluray which has been remastered but many of the times not offering a booklet which has been forgotten alot in many DVD's . ( somehow thats why i keep my MGM DVD's from James Bond which offered a booklet with many deleted scenes, easter eggs and such . Somehow later on releases has left the booklets completely to become a loosy 1 disc DVD/Bluray for less than 5 Euros as the disc itself is from bad quality . )

"So, you view to a kill . . . Zorin."
