LTK very much reflected the affairs of the world in the most possible subtle manner: With the Cold War drawing to an end, communist insurgents were no longer a threat to right-wing governments which had illegally funded the counterinsurgency forces using illicit drug money, Sanchez being an amalgam of the two notorious drug barons Manuel Norega and Pablo Escobar and his right hand Dario being a former enforcer of the CIA sponsored Contra. Bond in his quest for revenge bought down a narcotics empire stretching from Chile upto Canada(as Sanchez boasts) soon to enter Asian markets.
Dalton, as usual, was the determined, tough overall brilliant Bond while Davi as Sanchez was simply outstanding coz imho, he was the most realistic Bond antagonist till then.

Personally I feel Tomorrow Never Dies is vastly underrated, largely because I felt that it was the first to update the conceptual elements of the Bond story in regards to modern context. Goldeneye's story was largely great because it felt like a perfect amalgam of Ian Flemming's previous story motifs and thematic elements, and fits alongside its predecessors seamlessly, but Tomorrow Never Dies almost feels like what a Bond novel might have been like if Ian Flemming was born 25 years later than he was. Mainly, the concept of Privately Owned Media to start international wars for a particular ultra-powerful civilian's endgame is something that didn't exist in the world during Flemming's time, but if he was writing in the late 90's, I imagine this type of notion would have caught his attention.

It’s great fun to watch these Bond rankings. Every other movie you feel the need to shout: no way! He‘s got it all wrong! But like he said: it’s just very subjective. Some enjoy the very bits that ruin a movie to someone else and hate what another one praises. Do you like this villain? Do you think this Bond girl kills? Do you like this actor or that one. Are you annoyed by that silly jokes or do you chuckle with pleasure? Everyone has a different idea what the perfect mix would be. Anyway, the action hardly ever fails to thrill.

First of all, for me there is no such thing as a "bad Bond movie". I watched all 25+2 of them countless times and will continue to do so, no matter how much I complain about certain aspects.
Having said that, the storyline of "Skyfall" wasn't that great IMHO. The 1st act MacGuffin is more or less recycled from MI:1, Silva's escape "that was planned for years" doesn't make sense at all.
I'm also not a fan of the Home Alone 3rd act. And don't get me started on that waste of a good scotch. How about calling in the cavalry 3min earlier? I know the whole Craig era is supposed to be a deconstruction of Bond. But for me it's just not that entertaining to see him fail over and over again. He fails on his mission, he fails saving Severine, he fails saving M, ....
But like I said in my original post. Those rankings are always subjective and I think it's actually rather interesting to learn what other fans like about the movies I don't like that much and vice versa.

I agree with most everything about this ranking. I also believe, having watched this series since I was little, that no one inhabited the Bond suit any better than Connery. Yes, it was cheesy, yes it was (somewhat) one-dimensional, but not one of them said "Bond, James Bond" the way Connery did. I truly loved Brosnan (I thought he brought a lot of depth and machismo to the roles), mostly disliked Moore and was neither up or down about Dalton. However, until Casino Royale, I could not have been more blown away by Daniel Craig, and what he did for the role, AND the franchise. I totally agree that he made it his own, and the vulnerability he showed with the Vesper Lynd character was truly groundbreaking. Having seen Craig prior to him doing the role, I couldn't have imagined that someone (not so) classically handsome could have pulled it off, but I was dead wrong. Mads Mikkelsen as LeChiffre was BRILLIANT (one of my favorite actors) and the plot was shocking and believable, in equal measure. LONG LIVE JAMES BOND!!

When I was a boy of 7 or 8 in the mid '60s, my aunt took me to see a double feature: "From Russia With Love" and "Goldfinger." I was mesmerized. I had never seen anything like James Bond and I wanted to be just like him. I begged for the toy Bond briefcase from "With Russia With Love" and I got it for Christmas that year. James Bond became my role model. My father had extreme PTSD from his brutal WWII experiences and was not able to be much of a role model. Many decades later, only just recently because certain wartime documents were declassified, did I learn that my father had a role in an Ian Fleming commando operation during the war. My favorite Bond films are "From Russia With Love" and "For Your Eyes Only."

Because I grew up in the 70's...I will always associate Roger Moore as THE James Bond. Second in line, would be Sean Connery, with Daniel Craig coming in thirdly. However...my favorite Bond films, start with Daniel Craig as Bond, with Roger Moore second, and Sean Connery third. That said...I love ALL of them, even George Lazenby's one time portrayal. Bond movies just take one into a world of intrigue, patriotism, and plain sleek coolness. As a 10 year old in 1977, and watching Roger Moore as Bond, was a thrilling world of escape, from the real world of drudgery. Every Bond movie I have watched since, still sends me to thay place of intrigue. Bond movies are simply marvelous. Just marvelous. With all of that said...I do recognize this video is not about the actor playing Bond, but each individual movie itself. At my age, it is just easier to remember the actors, than it is to remember each movie and its failings, or highlights. So I wrote my comment the way I did. ☀️😎☀️

I saw Dr. No when I was eight. So I saw all the movies as they were released, which probably gives me a different perspective. In spite of that, I find your ranking surprisingly intuitive. I was also a big fan of Ian Fleming and read nine of the books before I was sixteen. For this reason, I find the Connery, Craig, and Dalton movies to be more aligned with the character, with Brosnan a close 4th, yet Dalton and Brosnan never communicated the clear psychological dichotomy of the Bond character in their acting. From a completely subjective feeling through the years, I think you mentioned all the reason why Goldfinger should be #1 on your list, although Casino Royale was an obvious contender. For the same reason, I can personally dismiss Roger Moore's depiction, since I'm old enough to remember The Saint, which I was a fan of as well. But the character didn't translate well and Moore never really seemed to try to make the break. I completely lost interest in the character during that time, and maybe expected too much from Dalton, afterwards. They promised a return to a character that resembled Fleming's Bond, but that never happened, or they never really knew what that means. If I were to pick three that fit the Fleming's character - Goldfinger, Casino Royale, Dr. No, with Thunderball being a fun fantasy for those of us that love the water sports and casinos while visiting Paradise Island in the Bahamas. As good as Casino was, Quantum, Spectre, and No Time, were duds, IMO, and I don't think the real James Bond has survived the death scene this time, no matter who plays the lead next...

I enjoy it also. I think two things are the biggest detractors. 1. They were still trying to Connery up Roger Moore. It's lighthearted, yes, but Moore's Bond is borderline vicious with Scaramanga's mistress. TSMLM seems to be the first script truly written exactly for Moore's portrayal, and that aids it in being arguably the best outing of Moore's tenure. He looks great, he acts great, and he nails everything about it. 2. Mary Goodnight. I like Britt Ekland but that role was just written badly. She consistently does more harm than good virtually every time she's on screen. That being said, Lee is absolutely magnificent as Scaramanga. It's always an enjoyable outing for me.

Highly intelligent and incisive - thankyou. My own No. 1 is Skyfall, for the cinematographic artistry, music score, emotional range and depth, script, direction, cleverly varied pace, and sublime sets (Oriental and Scottish). I'd put the 'too old Roger Moore' picks much lower, since if Bond himself isn't believable, then the rest of the film can't make up for that lack.

Glad I found your channel. It's always a delight to find fellow Dalton supporters. I'd personally rank TLD higher than you, but I can't argue that the reason I would is the same reason you stated for your own ranking: Because Dalton is in it. Also, I rank it highly for the absolutely chilling sequence with Pushkin. I mean, we've been following along with Bond, we know he's not buying what Koskov is selling and yet Dalton performs that scene so perfectly that we're still not entirely sure he won't still shoot Pushkin. As for LTK...Jesus what a film. I would not want any version of James Bond after me, but I can state unequivocally that Dalton's Bond in that film is the one I would want after me the least. Bond has never been as smart, cunning, and ruthless as he is in that film. Q is a welcome presence, and Sanchez, I agree, is arguably the best villain the franchise ever created. Why? Because I've seen every Bond film, and Sanchez was the only one who made me believe he'd have people who willingly worked for him. Until Bond pulls Iago on him, he behaves like a man that would entice people to work for him. Why would you want to work for a guy that's going to feed you to a shark for a minor slip up? While there are certainly things that I can agree would make others rank it lower, such as the necessity to make Pam glare with jealousy every time Lupe is around, some of Talisa Soto's line readings, and Felix' WAY to happy behavior in the final scene (Guess that morphine is GOOOD) it's not enough to prevent it from being a personal favorite. Dalton gave us the sequel to OHMSS that we deserved, and while I agree with his personal reasoning when offered the role in 1969 at 22 that he was too young for the part, I can't help but wonder what he'd have done with OHMSS. He certainly wouldn't have been as polished as he was in the two films he did, but he'd have had acting skills that poor George Lazenby just didn't have. I feel sorry for George. He's the Bond I like the least, though I don't hate him at all, he's just not as polished as the other actors. I feel sorry for him because he was i given the script to a Bond film that, aside from LTK or Casino Royale, was one of the toughest scripts for any actor to handle. If he'd had a film like Moore's "Live and Let Die," or Connery's "Dr. No," and had a chance to get his acting footing in a Bond film where Bond isn't required to do as much heavy lifting, he'd have been far better prepared to tackle OHMSS. It's almost stunning that Broccoli gave such a deep Bond script to someone with little to no acting experience.

I still put Goldfinger as #1 for the reasons you cited in this list (as you yourself called it “the perfect Bond film”). It was the blueprint for all others that came after it. Every second watching it, I felt like I was actually following a British spy during the height of the Cold War. Some of the characters were kinda weak (like Felix for instance), but it felt real. Not every player in the real Cold War espionage years was witty and clever. Many of them were WWII and Koren War veterans who were doing their part to promote the mission of their governments.
Even lines like when Felix notices Bond and P*ssy walking together and says something to the effect of “Bond has things well in hand. I’m tired, let’s get back to the motel for some shut-eye.” I’ve never worked for the CIA, but I have worked in government public service. That line is so real and a level of realism you don’t see in film today. Everything these days has to be constant octane.

In my personal opinion....Dalton was a great actor but as I said in my opinion.....
He just came across too stiff and serious, After all that was one of the Bond Mainstays.... To do his job and then come across with a little quip/one liner

Moonraker is always near the bottom of fan rankings, but it's one of my favorites because it's so different from the rest. This film is loaded with gadgets, and there something uber cool seeing a Bond fight sequence with laser guns. I love the silly, dark humor. The pre-title sequence is superb, featuring some of the best stunt work in the entire series. Moonraker is definitely one of those films where you need to leave your brain at the door and just enjoy the ride.

Moonraker used to be really low on my ranking list, but I watched it again not too long back and thoroughly enjoyed it and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. While it’s still MILES from my top ten, it did jump up a few spots.
My personal fave has always been, (and probably always will be), From Russia With Love.

I agree. I feel like Moonraker gets a bad rap because Bond went to space, but that's only the last 15 minutes of it. Overall, Moonraker is the most fun and most beautiful shot Bond movie out of all of them to me, so Moonraker is probably the Bond movie I have rewatched the most throughout the years. I would probably even sneak it into my Top 10 at 9 or 10 (*GASP*!!!). From Russia With Love is also my all-time favorite Bond film!!!

I nearly turned this off after seeing OHMSS in bottom place, but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's great to find someone else who thinks TMWTGG is one of Moore's best films - the film is criminally underrated. As is LTK, which you give a good showing to. I also appreciate your love of AVTAK - it has its issues, but its a really enjoyable film to watch. Thanks for creating the video.

Your Review on Bond Films is fantastic. I used to enjoy all the Bond films since i was 15 years old. of course i had enjoyed those films. All the actors were very good Mr. Moore, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and all who have done justice to the role and worked hard for the success of the film. Many thanks for your genuine review and i cant wait for a good Bond Movie soon.

Personally OHMSS is near the top for me and I’ve loved it more and more as I’ve gotten older, I do share your love of Licence to Kill though, it’s one of my favourites and a very underrated film. My top 5 in no particular order would be:
    1) OHMSS
    2) Licence to Kill
    3) Casino Royale
    4) Spy who loved me
    5) from Russia with love
    Bottom 5:
    1)Diamonds are forever
    2) Man with the golden gun
    3) Die another day
    4) Quantum of Solace
    5) Spectre

I'm definitely agree with your top 3. Skyfall was the first Bond movie I saw in theaters and went with my dad. However we've been watching Bond films together for as long as I can remember. I'm 32, so despite my love for these movies I've only watched Skyfall in theaters, for whatever reason. It is currently my favorite Bond movie, for the cinematography, the score, the action, and that final scene! That scene imo was one of the best ever. Great list, and I applaud you for the time you must have spent on it.

Hey, I love that you have such an appreciation for GoldenEye and Licence To Kill … the two films in the series written for Timothy Dalton. While Dalton was in TLD, it wasn’t written for him originally. And even though Dalton retired right before GoldenEye, Pierce is absolutely great in it! And just outside of my top six (the six films closest to their Ian Fleming novel of the same name), I have Licence To Kill.
