Sorry for the late reply. Thats not a bad idea. I dont notice the heat but my foot tends to rub on the pipe and melt the rubber sometimes. Maybe that will help.
I had to take it off to install the pipe and im unsure how to reinstall one. I could just be blind and theres somewhere I can mount it but yeah it had to come off.

Have you considered exhaust wrap? Easy and cheap, looks cool and helps eliminate heat when you're stopped.

How were you able to tune the bike? Asking because i have a 2021 FXBBS as well but havent been able to install my pipes since there was no tune out.
I haven't tuned anything. Not sure if that's absolutely needed or not.
Old gaskets work good
I actually ended up just using the old ones since they looked great.
