    This is my demonstration/review of the BOSS Reverb RV-6. Firstly I give a small introduction about the pedal itself and then I go through each of the 8 settings on the pedal.
    The Boss Reverb RV-6 has 8 settings:
    1. Modulate
    2. Spring
    3. Plate
    4. Hall
    5. Room
    6. Dynamic
    7. Shimmer
    8. Delay
    3 Inputs:
    1 x Mono
    1 x Stereo
    1 x Exp (for an external expression pedal that adjusts parameter changes in real time)
    2 Outputs:
    1 x Mono
    1 x Stereo

    Kia ora everybody. I'm a huge fan of Boss pedals for many reasons but mainly because they're simple to use and built to last.

    Here in 2022. This is fantastic, thank you. I am very excited as I have ordered this pedal after so many years of other reverbs. I thought it was time to go to the classic. Love your video and that you used an acoustic guitar. Just about everyone else I have seen uses an electric guitar with it and that’s fine, but this was unique and gets me excited about using my acoustic with it as well.

    Thanks for the review! I am impressed with the pickup on this Takamine. Its very authentic sounding. Most pedal/acoustic reviews have a piezo quack to them which cancels the depth of the pedals potential in sound. The link you posted for the guitar is to a classical though. Nice sound.

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  6 років тому

      You're welcome. Takamine's palathetic pickup combined with the CTP-2 tube preamp is a very difficult combination to beat. Tone for days. Unfortunately I can't provide links to my acoustic guitar because it's so difficult to find them for sale. I heard from a very reliable source that Takamine made less than 500 of these guitars so they're not so common thus difficult to find for sale anywhere.

    Hi Joshua, great review, thank you! It's convinced me to get one of these babies. One question. Does the tuning of your guitar affect the tone of the shimmer? I bought an Ocean verb pedal, not too expensive, and the shimmer was always out of tune with what I played. I play in Eb, so could that be the reason?

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  7 років тому

      Hi Alec. You're welcome and thank you for your comment! Actually I can't answer that question as I've never used it with a guitar tuned to Eb. I would've thought it wouldn't or shouldn't but I'm not a pedal designer or electronics engineer so I couldn't say with any authority. Sorry about that :D Please let me know how it works out after you make your purchase. I'd definitely be keen to hear about this phenomenon.

A question is i have all this running through the BCB60 pedal board and im wondering about doing vocals through the RV6 and what it would sound like as i currently use a TC Acoustic Play but i want to loop vocals and dry they sound terrible. Hi Wallace. You're welcome. I'm glad the demo helped you out. Amazingly enough I have very similar gear to you. I have a BCB60 & TC Helicon Voicelive 3. I honestly couldn't say how running your vox through an RV-6 would sound as I've never used it in that way before.
      May I ask why you don't run your vox through the TC Play Acoustic that you have?

    • @wallacenock7423
      @wallacenock7423 7 років тому +1

      Hi Josh
      The reason is that you cannot mute the effects on the vocals if I plug it straight into the looper and I use a patch that has delay and reverb in it. And I send that straight to my focusrite desk. And then the out of the TC play goes to my RC 300. I have two loopers the 300 and the 30. So I'm making up a separate board with the 30. I was also looking at the VE 8 acoustic performer. I must admit I don't particularly enjoy looping vocals dry. I need effects 😂😂 but I guess if I routed the left out of the RC 30 to the A of the RV5 and the right to the B then post loop I would get some effects even if it was a just a small hall reverb. But I love the shimmer on the RV6. I'm concussed he he

    hi Josh, I want to use this pedal to soften strumming and make it sound very tightened and not bright and metallic. more like 12-string. any suggestion on the setting? thanks

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  7 років тому

      Hi Cheyenne. That's a tough one because that isn't really what this pedal is designed for. I'd strongly suggest using your onboard EQ and if that is insufficient try an EQ pedal (remember to cut rather than boost). To tighten the sound you'll need a compression pedal. 12 string guitars are by their very nature quite bright & metallic so I can't really follow exactly what you're trying to say. Honestly most of your overall tone is really in your right hand...

    • @denisexie3800
      @denisexie3800 7 років тому +1

      hi sorry the 12-string is misleading.. I think I will try to cut the eq from the onboard preamp...I don have a preamp pedal so was just trying to use rv-6 to soften the strumming tone and add tension to it.

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  7 років тому

      Ok. I understand. In addition to trying your onboard EQ I could also suggest some heavy gauge strings (I use 13s) and moving your hand towards the soundhole or perhaps right over the soundhole. That will instantly make your tone round, fat & warm. The trick with strumming is that if you're playing an acoustic the underbridge pickups are usually crap for really delivering a nice tone. If your budget allows look at perhaps installing a Fishman or LR Baggs system that uses a bridge saddle pickup, transducer pickup, & a microphone positioned at the soundhole. They're expensive and require a bit of rewiring but that will probably give you the best sound in any situation on an acoustic.

  • @icaro738
    @icaro738 8 років тому +1

    fro strumming which reverb effect is the best?

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  8 років тому +1

      For strumming you're probably best going with one of the more 'traditional' reverb types such as plate or spring. I would also recommend easing back on the reverb wet signal or the reverb level for strumming. If you're gonna use a delay when you're strumming do the same thing as for reverb and be aware of how quickly you're strumming. Keep the F.Back low for quick strumming and high for slower strums. You'll get a feel for it as you experiment more.

  • @novocat1358
    @novocat1358 5 років тому

    Harsh sounding on1st E and B strings from start to finish. The guitar settings did the pedal no justice at all. I have bought this pedal, but if I'd have heard this demo first, I'd have maybe thought twice about buying. Each effect on the pedal have some wonderful sounds when you blend the controls, from lush reverb to subtle delay+reverb.

    • @nbnguitar
      @nbnguitar  8 років тому

      Hey buddy you're not bothering me. I don't change settings between strumming and fingerstyle. This is just something that happens with semi-acoustic guitars - some sound better when plucked and others sound better when strummed. However, IMHO I think that difference can be alleviated somewhat by ensuring that you have a nice pickup and preamp for your guitar.
      If you have enough cash you could look at systems by LR Baggs that use several different kinds and types of pickups to provide an acoustic guitarist with multiple tone-shaping possibilities.

      @nbnguitar  8 років тому

      Hey buddy.
      I'd say definitely go with individual pedals for your acoustic setup. Buy all of your pedals second hand if you're on a tight budget. Here's what I'd recommend for you:
      1. RV5
      2. GE7
      3. DD3
      4. A tuner that you clip onto the headstock of your guitar
      5. BCB30 pedalboard to power it all
      It may cost you a bit more than CA$200 for all of that but it'll be worth it in the long run.
      The thing with multi-effects pedals is that although they have plenty of features and not all of them are practical, relevant or even useful to you. Individual pedals are far more customisable and easy to change out as your tastes, needs, and demands change throughout the years.
      I do use a Boss GT10 and a Fractal Audio AX8 on tour but that's exclusively for my electric guitars and it serves a very specific function because I need to copy a myriad of sounds from different players and I often don't have access to any real guitar amps.
      All the best bro. I hope that helped.

      Hey hey thanks bro. I'm happy to help. You'll need a PSA120 to power your pedals inside the BCB30. I'd say get the RV5 (not 6), the BCB30 with the PSA unit, and your tuner first if you're budget is a little tight. Then as the cash comes in get the DD3 and the GE7.
      Remember, the GE7 can act as a volume boost which is really handy if you're playing live. Just stomp on it and it'll give you a nice volume boost plus some EQ if you need it. If you want it to be a pure 'volume boost' only don't move the faders - just leave them at 0 but up the level to the point that you need for your solos or whatever. The GE7 can be a little noisy so if you can find a second hand modded one then get that instead of a factory one.
      Let your fingers fly!
