I don't understand why authors use just big words when small ones would do. Here is my rewrite in simple English: CHAAAARGE!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
'With that he seized a great horn from Guthláf his banner-bearer, and he blew such a blast upon it that it burst asunder. And straightway all the horns in the host were lifted up in music, and the blowing of the horns of Rohan in that hour was like a storm upon the plain and a thunder in the mountains. Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor! Suddenly the king cried to Snowmane and the horse sprang away. Behind him his banner blew in the wind, white horse upon a field of green, but he outpaced it. After him thundered the knights of his house, but he was ever before them. Éomer rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the front of the first éored roared like a breaker foaming to the shore, but Théoden could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. His golden shield was uncovered, and lo! it shone like an image of the Sun, and the grass flamed into green about the white feet of his steed. For morning came, morning and a wind from the sea; and the darkness was removed, and the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them. And then all the host of Rohan burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was on them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came even to the City.' The Return of the King, The Lord of the Rings, book 5 chapter 5, "The Ride of the Rohirrim".
Jackson made sure that only people who had read the book were in the front of the charge for the film because they truly understood how big of a moment this was
I do believe that this was rumored to be Tolkiens favorite part and floating somewhere out on the internet there is a recording of him reading this section
_Forward_ _And don't be afraid of the dark_ _Get up_ _Arise riders of Théoden_ _The swords will shake_ _Shields will splinter_ _This is a day of swords_ _A red day_ _Before the sun rises!_ _Ride now!_ _Ride now!_ _Ride!_ _Ride through the ruin_ _And the end of the world!_ _Death, death, death!_ _Go Eorlingas!_
Arise, arise, riders of Theoden! Fell deeds awake, fire and slaughter! Spears shall be shaken, shields be splintered! A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now! Ride now! Ride to Gondor!
"Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day, at dawn look to the east". A rousing version of one of my favourite themes from the best trilogy ever made.
"At that sound the bent shape of the king sprang suddenly erect. Tall and proud he seemed again; and rising in his stirrups he cried in a loud voice, more clear than any there had ever heard a mortal man achieve before: Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor! With that he seized a great horn from Guthláf his banner-bearer, and he blew such a blast upon it that it burst asunder. And straightway all the horns in the host were lifted up in music, and the blowing of the horns of Rohan in that hour was like a storm upon the plain and a thunder in the mountains. His golden shield was uncovered, and lo! it shone like an image of the Sun, and the grass flamed into green about the white feet of his steed. Rohan are all a bunch of savages. Though if they all raised their shields above their heads as they charged, they could have not lost as many. But they are so fucjing powerful they summoned the sunlight with their charge which previously was something only Gandalf a literal fucjing Seraphim could do; but Rohan is just so OP it doesn't matter. God I love them so much. The most valiant of all mankind for sure. RIDE FOR RUIN AND THE WORLDS ENDING!! DEATH!!!!!!
Hmm, they only have two hands.. one for the reins and the other for their weapons. I don't think it is possible to raise shields mid-charge. Risks of cav charge, I guess, they knew the risks, and they are mostly light cav too.
Arise! Arise riders of Theoden, Spears shall be shaken, Shields shall be splintered, a sword day, a red day, ere the Sun rises!!!!! Deeeeaaaaaattttthhhhhhh!!!!
This is great! I wanted to ask if I could use this song for a video I'm making. Should I just write your comment in the description of my video? will youtube take it down?
Thank you ! You can sure use this music. However, you have to credit Howard Shore first and me in second. For instance : « Battle Of Pelenor Fields - Howard Shore (Virgil Music remake) ». Feel free to share the final result here too :)

Just a quick update, I listened to the song again and I forgot that there was a part with a female voice singing… unfortunately currently I don’t have any plugin that allows me to reproduce such a wonderful voice. It will be one of the next plug-in I’ll buy but until then I can’t do something as good as I wish so I’m going to postpone this remake. I hope you won’t mind. Now if you want to have it quicker, tell everyone to subscribe so that I win a lot of money to buy it ! xD
