Yeah so basically Peggy has his own type of mixing when it comes to production, if you can get into his catalog, he is making the elements of the beat more organic and detailed, he is a one man band for 12 years i believe with different genres, overall he is just incredible
@@JaKarTVyeah he even played the guitar on Garbage Pale Kids too which is sick. He made this entire project on an sp404 same thing Madlib used for Madvillainy
The mixing in the vocals being more in one with the production it's probably due to the concept that Peggy thought for the album. He did the whole album using an SP-404, basically an ancient beatmaking machine. Peggy said on his bandcamp: "This is what we would sound like in the 90s with no pro tools." That's the sound they were looking for.
A few things about Peggy 1. In his own words he's a "producer first and a rapper second". He started out making beats that had a lo-fi aesthetic to it even when he was still in the millitary. After he was discharged he then started to take music a lot more seriously and kept making beats. Thing is when he gave it to rappers no of them really liked his experimental style and those who did take it would change the beats to their liking which Peggy hated so he took back his beats and was basically forced to rap on his own beats. 2. He also mixes and masters all his beats himself cause as said earlier he didn't want anyone to ruin the beats he worked hard on with a specific vision and sound in mind. 3. Because of how he's his own producer he take big pride on his production and would intentionally mix it so that the vocals would be around the same level as the instrumentals. Peggy defenitely wants you to hear his rapping but he also wants you to hear the instrumentals more. 4. As for his rapping style, he's known for having aggressive verses with strong punches directed to anyone. This also makes him pretty clever with his bars, a stand out one being "Glock with a switch, turn a vegan to spinach PM-50, we ain't beefin', you dinner" from HAZARD DUTY PAY! off of LP! (offline). 5. While he has an overall agressive tone to his rapping he can also juxtapose that with a bit of singing and personal lyrics. 6. I touched on his mixing but his production style as a whole is very interesting with a major emphasis on variety, detail and of course experimentalism. 7. His variety comes in the form of doing various sounds and moods as well as instrumentation and his creative sampling. 8. He doesn't normally do much features with his albums having about 3-4 on average. 9. On Scaring the Hoes specifically Peggy wanted the album to feel like a dusty old tape that you'd find in an attic which is why the mixing on this album, especially on Danny's voice in some song, feel muddy even compared to his other albums. 10. Peggy is also a veteran not only a millitary vet but a rap veteran as not he has put out music for a very long time and also has studied adoration for rap itself. Funnily enough his breakthrough album was his 2016 album "Veteran". 11. Peggy has 2 producer tags which are "D-Damn Peggy" and "You think you know me". He also started using "I named this one JPEG because i like JPEGs" on his more recent stuff. Comment if I missed something or got something wrong. Also love the reaction, keep up the vids bro 🙏🙏💪💪
The mixing is like that because JPEGmafia decided to produce all the beats on an older machine called the SP-404SX instead of using something like Pro Toolz like most producers. None of his other songs sound like that. It's just a unique thing for this album.
If you want to get into more JPEG , which he produces all his own music. I recommend LP! or OFFLINE, STH DLC, All my Heros are Cornballs, and if you want to get into Danny Brown more I recommend XXX and Atrocity Exhibition
I know a lot people saying for you to react to "LP!" but the version that Peggy meant to be out (with sample clearing and everything) it's called "OFFLINE!". Basically the same album but with more of the tracks that were supposed to really be in it. Also, loved the reaction man. 💯
Besides some rock records released this year, this album was the most fun album that i've listened this year, just pure hype and fun. Love the production, the samples, the quirkyness of both JPEG and Danny. It's nothing serious and it's not trying to be, but it's still people who love music making fun stuff and without the chains of a label saying what they need or don't need to do. This together with Kali Uchis's "Red Moon in Venus" are, honestly, tied as my favorites records of the year so far.
So jpeg is a giant wrestling fan his last album sampled aew twice and hes don3 a cover of sexy boy the shawn micheals themesong almost every song of his contains a wrestling reference and he uses the edge intro as a producer tag. Love to see another wrestling and hip hop fan react to him
peggy has has much more on his belt (devon hendryx) was his old music alias, he had some interesting music from 2009 to 2013, he arranges, produces, engineers 95% of his jpegmafia projects while devon hendryx are purely just him. To be fair with this one, jpegmafia has always been the kind to be loud and distorted ever since he started with his name jpegmafia, and definitely the mixing would sound better with headphones on compared to car speakers due to how crazy this man is with his mixing style
dont listen to these people, this comment section doesnt do their research. Peggy does produce and engineer all his own solo shit, but he had a hand with mixing this one and did not touch the mastering ONCE. engineering on his solo shit is better since its all him
Really dope reaction man. If you want to get into anymore underrated recent hip-hop check out Big K.R.I.T. - 4eva is a Mighty Long Time Probably in my top 5 favorite hip-hop albums ever. Highly recommend
Honestly I think you should start with Veteran in regards to the next Jpegmafia project. That’s the album what made him blow up, it will make more sense to you then Offline / Cornballs
Albums sounds that way because of the production machine used but also it’s meant to sound kinda like a throwback from the future. A lot of hip hop from the 90s kinda has a dusty imperfect grimy feel. That’s what they were going for purposely. Not saying you have to like it but that’s why it’s that way. Imo the production is its own voice on this album. It’s just as important and center stage.
They even made fun of the people that disliked the mixing in the DLC video lmao. "I cant even hear anything". It was obviously a choice and they way they like it. Not for everyone, this album is a modern classic though.
I really recommend you listen to more peggy he's the goat Veteran has a industrial sound All My Heroes Are Cornballs has really popping production and is way more melodic OFFLINE! is a combination of both and is very synthwave SCARING THE HOES: DLC PACK is leftover songs from SCARING THE HOES There is also Black Ben Carson but I would recommend hearing all of the above first extremely recommend all of these albums and staying tuned for another reaction🤘
@@JaKarTV It took a bit to click for me. I also don’t think this was the easiest entry point in his discography. His other projects are mostly cleaner, which seemed like an issue for you on many of the tracks in this album. At the very least with Peggy, just about any track you turn on from him is going to sound clearly distinct from any other song in his catalog, production wise of course. He is all about his production, and there are so many little cool things he does on that end that i still am picking up years later. I’d also watch one of his live shows, especially veteran/amhac era (2018/19) Been to many rap shows, big and small, and his performances blow everybody else out of the water.
Couldn't understand a damn word on this album... People do not care about quality anymore!.. I hear instrumentals with 2 people talking WAY in the background lol
Just a you thing tbh, first amd last track I can understand, maybe garbage pale kids, but the rest you can hear they just not the forefront of the mix.
you need to listen to LP! (offline) by JPEGMAFIA
Was thinking that too, I swear everything that people might not like on veteran, cornballs, sth, ep2, etc; is "fixed" on LP! lmao
Definitely
That’s up next for me when it comes to him then fam 🙏🏾🔥

Fun fact: Jpegmafia is the producer of “scaring the hoes” and all his other albums
Woww he’s really next level then
thought up, mixed mastered produced written .
If you love God Loves You you’ll definitely love Hazard Duty Pay. That track is Peggy’s magnum opus.
Oh wow bet !! Ima check it out !

dope ass album and good review for someone just getting into peggy 😂😂

Love this vid bro! I mostly disagree with u but its so refreshing seeing someone who aint afraid of having they own opinions
This means a lot bro because that’s what I do it for, I want to keep my opinion strong not sugar coat everything!!

Danny just dropped an album called Quaranta. Its 40 in Italian and a sequel to XXX.
I peeped!! I’ll have to listen!

Aye good lookin for the info & insight I appreciate you & I had a feeling the headsets would be better ! 1000%
We need either LP! or All my Heroes are cornballs by jpeg. Also he produces and masters all his beats
Yuppp LP’s up next for him 💪🏽💪🏽
Gotta listen to more Peggy, Veteran is a great place to start with his solo works
Heard you! Ima have to add that to the list 🔥🔥

One of my fav rap albums. So strange, such great samples. Some misses but also definite hits
As one good rock man ones said: "Listen to the fkin9 music first, then try to undersatnd the lyrics".
mfs love leaving paragraphs in comments on videos about peggy 😭
