i was in the bus on the way to the campus while hearing this, jpegmafia and danny are on whole another game, i was so blown away. Peggy must be one of the most talented producers of these 2 decades.
6:00 danny is saying this not as a “bring back the good ol’ days where autotune was everywhere!”, but more as a meta-referential quip on the idea that most mainstream listeners are not going to be used to this abrasive and abstract style/aesthetic. i understand and share the sentiment that this line was a little corny, but not because it sounds like an “oldhead boomer” take, it sounds more like a “we’re unique and edgy” take
I also think that whole is song is irony or satire and is clowning on all the people who unironicly think they are not "like all the other boys" because they have a "unique music taste".
From what I understand Danny was having a hard time with alcoholism at the beginning of the project and it was difficult for them to get through songs. Part way through the project Danny was sober and was able to deliver much better (this is at least what I heard from one of Dannys podcasts). The songs definitely reflect that imo, and its cool they left the songs as they were rather than re-did them after Danny stopped drinking.
That's interesting, but also 90% of Danny Brown's music was made from the depths of addiction & alcoholism (same thing). It's obvious if you've listened to XXX, Old, Atrocity Exhibition... Or watched the "Ain't it Funny" video. His struggles with substance use are tightly intertwined in his music and his success at it. His whole career comes off bittersweet and tragic because of it. I do hope he can finally get past it for good, it's very difficult.
I actually find myself really enjoying the muddy mixes on this project. It feels like a revival of DIY in that they are less focused on the studio level mix, and more into focusing on the creativity and heart of the music. I also will never pass up an excuse to focus on Jpegmafias revolutionary production. I also want to throw in that while some songs are absolutely imbalanced in terms of danny and peggys verse lengths, but i genuinely appreciate when artists have the maturity to step back and let their collaborator take the forefront on a song that they feel that person rocks more than they would.
Pinning the shoddy mixes on a "DIY aesthetic" doesn't really erase them for me. Both of these artists are extremely detail-oriented, which, for me, pushes it from "potentiality intentional" to just plain weird. Edit: I did really enjoy this album tho, definitely an AOTY contender for me right now.

"Where the auto tune at" is meant to be sarcastic. The whole concept of the song is how they keep making songs that are "Scaring the Hoes". Im a born again virgin after this one
This dude won’t shut up about the mixing lmfao
I'm at a solid 9, maybe 9.5. It's an amazing project. I don't think there is a single skip on the album for me, just nitpicks
Honestly the mixing makes me feel it's more like a 7.5 8 to me but still a great album
"Where the auto tune at" is meant to be sarcastic. The whole concept of the song is how they keep making songs that are "Scaring the Hoes". So in line with that concept, Danny Brown is calling out main stream cliche tropes, such as auto-tune. He's saying it as if he's a main stream rapper, "yo, where the auto-tune at?"
danny brown isnt like other girls
yeah that's a cringe bar
@@ts4858 you posting a cringe bar rn way you can't appreciate artists in their own way
@@belaolson8172 My bad
@@ts4858 Why? You like the fact that most modern main stream hip hop is drowning in unintelligible auto tune garble?? Yaaaay! Please make my hip hop sound like two robots are fucking inside of a washing machine!
The production is the best part. Also you can't get mad at the mix, when it was produced on something that looks like a TI-84 Graphing Calculator.
I know you say they could've played it safe...but it's Danny and Peggy when have they ever played it safe?
This is the best cover art of the year
100%
I was thinking about the Escaflowne op, especially the piano opening. That's the first Yoko Kanno that I heard. Then I heard this album and I was weirded out when I hear it being incorporated.
25:00 glad my awful super chat made the vid
crazy how brad travelled all the way to Australia just to hear the album a day early. love the dedication to the content king!
Peggy and Danny made this for us ADHD kids with the production 😭
I've know redveil personally for about 3 years!
is he cool
Run the jewels should been longer man
Will you ever show/give your reaction on The Forever Story? You said in your best album of the year video that you hadn’t released your reaction and now I need it…
super random prediction: fantanos gonna give this a 6 or 7 and its gonna be mbdtf all over again
update: HE GAVE IT A FUCKING NINE???????!!!!!!!!
I’m predicting a strong 6, I hope it gets a better rating than that but I don’t think it will since it’s got such rough mixing (even tho it’s a great stylistic choice imo)
@@coastercraziness he might give it a higher rating bc of that
Yeah i kinda think the same, Willing to bet he gives it anywhere from a strong 6 to a decent 7. Based on his complaints about LBP dude probably gonna be a little disappointed seeing as how most the album does feel like JPEG tracks with Danny as a guest rather than a two way 50/50 collab, Which I'm totally fine with tbh cause Peggy always kills it, But i guarantee Fantano will take issue with this, He's a huge JPEG fan but he's also a huge Danny fan as well and Danny's high pitched vocals sometimes not meshing together quite right on Peggy's production is gonna bother him. Overall I think he's gonna enjoy it but guarantee he's gonna nitpick the hell out of this thing lol
Danny Brown carries hard on the rapping front upon further listens
The beat to steppa pig is a perfect experimental beat
Brad doesn't use a VPN he VNCs into his Digital Ocean cluster where his 25TB AJR and Charlie Puth collections reside, and streams from there.
Danny is my favorite rapper, so maybe I'm biased, but must say that I love how the songs give both these guys time to shine.
I was just waiting to hear Jack Harlow Combo Meal, did not disappoint
if car seat headrest made a rap album it would sound like this
It would sound like 1 Trait Danger tbh
10:11 that's a solid ass danny brown impression wtf
i don't care about the mix, this is essentially a fun little meme album it doesn't need to sound super polished and overproduced, the roughness adds to it
When the burfict horns came in creamed
Peggy's sample game is crazy on this. Remember how Danny talked about how much money he had to spend to make Atrocity Exhibition?
I think we need to hold Peggy accountable as an enabler
This was the first stream I tuned into, fun stream for a great album!
Off first listen I definitely liked it, loved tracks such as garbage pale kids, burfict!, and kingdom hearts. But after second listen everything just snapped into place for me. Even tho I do wish Danny was mixed better on some tracks, it didn’t take away from the overall amazing experience. Production is out of this world. 9.5/10
This review felt like it was leading up to a 7/10 and not a 9
Cause it was a low 8 and after multiple listens it was changed to a 9
i'm so upset no one has pointed this out yet i think during the second half of danny's verse on scaring the hoes theres a sample of mc ride
Agreed, awesome album, I was able to grab a vinyl
!!
“AND ANOTHER THING”
NEED THAT INTRO FULL
The cover looks pretty rad.
