You just don't know how much we all appreciate your calm demeanor in each of your videos. So peaceful and enjoyable. A true Blessing to watch, listen and learn from you.
The jar rings aren't needed and can actually rust to the glass (they don't always dry while cooling off) making it frustrating to open jars. And reuse the rings.
Hi Erica my wife and I would like to wish you and your family a Happy New Year and health. We have followed you from the beginning of your adventure. We are both Canadian and are proud of you. Since you made your frozen grapes our freezer has not run out of them. We are both seniors 77 yrs young and we follow you regularly. We live in Laval, outskirts of Montreal. Hugs to all of you and keep up the hard work Janine and Bob
Yes to lemon juice. It slows down the browning of the apple sause and it also drops the Ph for longer storage. Nice to premake apple pie filling with apple slices and ... and ... I am going to say it, brown sugar.
I have started dying oranges as well. I took them down with my Christmas decor but then dried lemons for a fresher look in the new year! I made a lemon slice and cinnamon stick garland for my fireplace. Very cheery!❤ Happy New Year!
It is a sheer joy to listen and watch each time. Our family dehydrated several oranges, lemons or limes last winter and we used them in citrus cold and hot drinks and on their own. We thoroughly enjoyed having the dried citrus last winter. We will be dehydrating a new batch for this winter. Happy New Year to you and your family. Grateful to see more UA-cam channels/content from our home and native land.🇨🇦 Blessings, Elizabeth.🇨🇦
Good job, Erica. I’ve been canning since forever and you did everything right ❤ Happy New Year to all of you. I just love everything about you and I wish you the all the best. ☮️💟
You will enjoy canning. Something so satisfying in putting food a way for your family. have enjoyed canning Apple pie filling, and something called pail apples. Someday I will add Apple cider vinegar to the repertoire. Happy New year from Edmonton Alberta
I've been canning applesauce for decades and that's how I make my applesauce since they've come out with an immersion blender (best invention). I don't peel my apples either. That's where a lot of vitamins are. I also have one of those peeler/corers too and those are a great invention too. Before I had to peel and core every apple. Lol. Great channel.
You are an innocent face very special very sweet very talented very beautiful God's given gorgeous woman.Your all talents are amazing and unique just like you. Your all videos are outstanding. You are the best May God bless you with the best, stay blessed ❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Merry Christmas, and wishing you all the best in the coming new year! Have y'all looked into planting any fruit trees on your land? I'm excited for the coming spring, as I'll be planting several apple, peach, pear and plum trees, to start a small fruit orchard, along with different types of berry bushes. Blessings to you all!
Same to you! We are definitely going to add more fruit trees. We have a few apple trees, but only one gave us fruit (literally one apple haha) this year. And we definitely want an abundance of apples and other fruit, just haven't decided exactly what yet. But yes, it's our plan to add more!
Now the recommendations say that if you are canning anything for ten minutes or more that you don't have to sterilize the jars. Just give the jars a good clean. BTW, lumpy applesauce is the best. Thank you for the wonderful views of the snow falling.
There are time differences between open air canning (what you are using here) and pressure canning. A pressure cooker is good for canning higher heat requrement stuff like meats and fish. Canning with a pressure cooker will cut the time down by one half, roughly. You can still use a pressure canner for veggies.
Please consider making a video explaining why sweet stuff like apple sauce doesn't go bad when stored in those jars. I've seen people do it in videos, but they never explain why the contents of the jars remains fresh. I know that you can store mustard etc without refrigeration, but that's because it has a high vinegar content. I don't understand why sweet things don't go bad.
I'm pretty new at canning, but from what I understand, bacteria is killed in the canning process through heat, oxygen is removed from inside the jar as well, and as long as the fruit is acidic enough (like apples), new bacteria can't grow in an acidic environment without oxygen. That's my understanding!
@@ChefEarthenware When the jar is removed from the canning process and the lid seals. The air is removed. You should be able to google it and find an explanation better than mine.
Love this video. I've been researching canning applesauce and what I've found is to peel and slice into water with lemon juice or ascorbic acid to prevent any browning. Think you probably were exactly right to add the lemon juice.

Hi!! Take your rings off when you store your jars- so you don’t get a false seal.

Thanks so much and happy new year to you both!
I love the orange slice ornaments, they remind me of little orange-ey stained glass windows. Simple, natural & beautiful.
That's what they remind me of too! So pretty.
I also dehydrate the apples in slices like your oranges but for snack in the winter. Delicious add to nuts and voila. Happy new year
Oh yummy, dried apples are delicious!
You’ve rapidly become one of my favorite channels. Thanks for sharing your home and lives with me.
Thanks so much!! As a new youtuber, that means so much to me! Happy new year!

My family loves lumpy applesauce. They always thought the smooth sauce was like baby food. I do enjoy watching your off grid simplistic life. ❤

Ooo fun idea, thanks for sharing!
Make sure to take the rings off the jars for storage! Good job for a first timer!
Yes, thank you!!

Great job. I have always used a food mill to get rid of the skin and seeds. I’ll try your method

Oh good, I love it when a process is shortened. I want to eliminate all unnecessary steps!

Yes, I'm definitely interested to pressure can meat in the future. We have a lot of freezers filled with meat!

@@thehomeintent How is the oxygen removed during the canning process? Unless I missed something, all you did was boil the jars.

It definitely doesn’t hurt to do it, that’s for sure! Thanks for watching 😊
You didn't add any spices in your apple sauce?
👋🇨🇦
No I didn't! I guess I can customize it after the fact if I want to. What would you suggest?
@thehomeintent , cinnamon, and nutmeg are really good. Maybe allspice, a bit of vanilla some people like star anise. All depends on your taste.
